Anyone knows whether ASNB calculate the 'paper loss' of stocks still being held? If so, then it should be part of the $219.5m right? If not, then cost of running ASNB (ie salary etc) is $219.5m or 22.4% of gross income
I think there is some exemption given to ASN and EPF without the needs to put paper gain/loss into accounting or something like that. Exemption given once every 3 years, that's why got wind blow that some ASMx will be converted to VP in 2021/2.
Tax?

I wonder how well will ASNB FP funds perform for future financial crisis.
1997 asian financial crisis - ASW2020 (ASM2) declared 10.10% return
2008 global financial crisis - ASW 2020 (ASM2) declared 7.00% returns while ASM declared 7.80% return
In 1997, if you put inside FD, you earn more than ASN.In 1997, Websearch shows FD was 9.x%. Most asian countries were forced to increase interest rate. Countries like Korea, Singapore, Taiwan have moved on. I swear FD interest was above 10% at one stage. People were withdrawing EPF to cushion the housing loan interest. No such thing as "as long as ASM dividend higher than housing loan interest".
In 2008, it was more of a US crisis. Less impact to us. 1MYR forex was floating and went as high as 2.90 vs 1USD.
So for future financial crisis, my thoughts are, it depends on which country is affected and how much it impacts 1Malaysia.
