Usually this kind of island stove / hood top is more suitable for Western cooking (Steaming, shallow stir fry etc), if do heavy frying & masak sambal tumis etc; this kind of island setup is not practical.What I have done for my kitchen, is to make the island as my prep table, with plug point on one corner, and a sink at the other corner & use the space as our prep table; and also doubles up as our rice cooker / cake mixer spot.
