Quick question - anyone using ALUMINIUM kitchen cabinets?
*
time to add one more material to the list. Solid wood panels.
why? or else how to justify 50k kitchens made out of budget aluminum frame/ACP panel combo or rm200 plywood or rm100 blockboards? biggrin.gif

BTW just to share experience for IKEA quotation vs Signature Kitchen + Rowenda.

for the exact same things (with minor differences) but same measurement, rowenda quoted 26k, signature quoted 35k (after "discount"), IKEA quoted 17k (+3k for installation or free if DIY).

and IKEA also uses imported blum hinges + dampeners from Austria
*
wow i wonder what goes in to a 35k sig kitchen offer?

Hi,

Thanks for the reply. You’re absolutely right. Can you give opinion about the price. I’ve survey for about >5 places :

1. Price quoted 8.9 k without any accessories/no 3d given/old school design shown.
2. 9.65k with accessories/no 3d design/unable to do electrical modification
3. 13k with accessories/with 3d design/modern design/hardly negotiable/no light point modification
4.14.2k with accessories/with 3d design/modern design/light point modification/easy negotiable and convincing/have own factory and establish
*
what is the purple item? island table? size and top material is what? (include in this 14.2k price?)

*

What is best material for kitchen cabinet comparing melamine, plywood and aluminium?
*
i would say 18mm marine ply if making for other people's premium project (20k+ level).

for own 2nd house project (mid range, i use rubber wood board), if wanna go high end, special order kempas or merbau 4x8 boards. (30-50k upwards can consider ) if wanna go higher also, i got solid 20mm walnut 4x8 boards..keep stock for own project next time perhaps biggrin.gif

haha it's just a small 20x70 house, but the prices quoted are so expensive nowadays. 50k for dry kitchen + wardrobes + bookshelves + display cabinet  sweat.gif

might be going with only the KC and wardrobes/bookshelves maybe will buy from Ikea, can save a few k here  tongue.gif
*
ah..i see.. ok no wonder... not just KC, but wardrobe cabinets etc..

if need solid wood furniture, table, bed , sideboard etc can pm.. biggrin.gif

Hope you mind. I have a stupid question here.

With a 20x70 double storey may I ask how do people end up with a rm150k to 200k renovation ah?

thanks in advance.
*
5-10years ago, i have no clue, i did pay 6 figures also for such renovation to contractor. all i know is wetwork and brickwork cost alot.

anyway after venturing into woodworking industry and knowing some of these subcon "customers" who i do some cabinetry for....so after a few years being around the building industry , i realize actually their raw material costs is quite cheap... biggrin.gif i guess the skill comes in managing 2-3 workers at site daily to build the 30k back extension to spec etc..

50k for so many things? what kind of material using? melamine board?

I was quoted only for wet & dry kitchen cabinet, wardrobes ady cost 100k++ ady..But was told all is solid plywood. But the final quotation (included other place) for all wood cabinet is killing me.
*
plywood is good but "all wood cabinet" i dont think its all wood. its all plywood frame u mean.
dont see why plywood should cost so much more what spec plywood? one piece is rm100 or there is also rm200 type.. need to check plywood spec.

BTW I noticed that there are basically 2 tyes of finishing on the stainless steel undermount sink. With the curved corner vs right angle corner as per the pictures below.

May I know what are the pros and cons, and which one do you prefer and the reason?

Thanks

Looking into the possibility of saving some $$$ by DIY installing the LED lighting for the cabinet instead of getting it from the cabinet supplier.

May I know is it easy to do? Would apreciate if anyoen that has this experience can share some info.

Thanks
*
easy if you know wood working. hard if u dunno any wood working and trying to flush mount it to your cabinet.

i know a bit on wiring but not on wood working. is it possible to just double-sided tape the LED stripe below the cabinet shelf?
*
yea that works. if lighting is all you need, then it should work.

usually the pro install have aluminium channel and a diffused plastic cover. thats the item needing a router to flush mount into the cabinet panel.

Couple of questions:

1. For those who have installed built-in dish racks (usually installed above the sink as part of top cabinets), how has this worked out? Any experience of water damage to the cabinet sides or base? What about practicality of having the dishes and utensils in that location? Any advantage over conventional dish rack placed on the counter top? Is this something you would recommend?

2. Anyone used carcass from Block Board? Price is about 25% higher than the standard melamine. Is it a a better choice?
*
melamine chip board is the cheapest. size is 6x8

block board is 4x8ft. so per sf price melamine is way cheaper.

there are many types of full alu kitchen cabinet, so better go and see the actual sample.

those cheaper ones will use thin type alu panel and maybe also ACP as the inner shelves. also look at how the joints on the door corners are being done, the finishing will be quite obvious.
*
ya true. there are many aluminium profiles and different thickness. then the panels are true aluminium or plastiky acp?

Hi all

Just got my key recently and trying to build my dream kitchen. Basically my biggest criteria for the aesthetic is shaker door  biggrin.gif

I have asked a few KC companies for quotation and if I want to have shaker door, I have to use either blockboard, HDF or solid wood
And there's also the question of the carcass too. If I want aluminium, the cost multiplies like crazy.
In general, I was quoted HDF panels with melamine/plywood carcass is about 35k+ and solid wood panels with melamine/plywood carcass would be 40k+++

Then I went to expo and found a few company that does full aluminium cabinets.
Not only they have shaker door but they quote me about 30-35k for a full aluminium cabinets.
Their warranty is also longer.

Is there a difference in the aluminium material used by the mixed material vendors vs the full aluminium ones?
Coz I'm wondering why the price difference is quite significant.

Also any known cons for those who have done fully aluminium cabinets?
*
the cons? cons would be paying the highest price. when its actually not too expensive to fabricate. biggrin.gif

hi guys. will those carpentry use plywood mix with block board to make their cabinet ? like the cabinet "bones" inside all in block board and the side will be in plywood ? Are they the same ? Will there be anyone using every single pieces of plywood even inside of the cabinet ?
*
plywood also got many grade. if customer request, i also use marine grade plywood for all the carcass body.

If let say without requesting much, usually they will mix plywood and other ?

And I'm not sure is the picture clear. Does the photo underneath refer to block board ? Is there any durability issue if use block board as the "bones" and side us plywood ?

block board is using the core as solid wood albeit low end solid wood. i guess its ok for carcass use as you are just making a box. i also use it most of the time, but as solid wood maker, i also use other options like rubber wood, merbau board, nyatoh panels etc.
i would not use blockboard for solid wood furniture. wrong application for blockboard.
