The private FM stations these days play total junk - that's why I don't listen to any of them. From 1979 to 1980, RTM ran a superb channel on FM called " Club 95 Mhz " . Every night, around 9 to 11 pm - I hardly missed a single broadcast - they featured live concerts by classy groups like Budgie, Iron Butterfly, Firefall, Supertramp, Journey and Wishbone Ash. That's when I was introduced to John Miles. When they played the live version of "Overture" one night, I quickly ran out, looked high and low, then bought his "Zaragon" album. I'd really like to hear one of you play the solo here. You don't come across such classic rock solos from the crappy artistes like Justin Beiber, etc these days. Note that he used the classic Moog synthesizer just before the solo. I was told that you can't get this type of sound on the other analog synthesizers like Roland's Jupiter 8, let alone the digital ones these days. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_b9XuEQU0Ok When I uploaded this and the other numbers from "Zaragon", I didn't even know that Miles has a large following in Argentina. This was the live version played on Club 95. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9031O2U-jRA Another live one sent by an English friend, John Webster. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ez-LDrz2QGE This post has been edited by Tham: Jun 25 2019, 04:16 PM |

The good ol' days, eh?
I was listening to the lyrics, and its narrative style... I could imagine Tenacious D singing it. The guitar solo was alright, albeit a little too noodly for my liking to be honest. |

I guess WOWfm was the "Club 95" of my times.
Never heard of John Miles but from the track it's an interesting piece of music. I dig the solos. The early days adventurous stuff is always actually its kinda sad that, there are still plenty of good music out there, but overshadowed by the mainstream crap and probably not getting any helpful support. |

QUOTE(quarantined @ Jun 25 2019, 10:02 AM) I guess WOWfm was the "Club 95" of my times. John Miles worked with Alan Parsons and sang Never heard of John Miles but from the track it's an interesting piece of music. I dig the solos. The early days adventurous stuff is always actually its kinda sad that, there are still plenty of good music out there, but overshadowed by the mainstream crap and probably not getting any helpful support. on two of his albums, his first, "Tales of Mystery and Imagination" and third, "Pyramid" . Alan Parsons was the sound engineer on Pink Floyd's "Dark Side of the Moon". https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ft3my-LVc-Q https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Xi-soi5LSdg If you are familiar with The Alan Parsons Project, they are actually a duo - Alan Parsons himself and the late Eric Woolfson. The vocalists and musicians on all of their albums as well as live performances are sessionists. In my opinion and that of many of his fans worldwide, Alan Parson's best album is his second in 1977, " I Robot", and that was when I was introduced to his music when I recorded it on cassette in 1978. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/I_Robot_%28album%29 You don't find such innovative music/progressive rock, way ahead of its time, these days. The kids these days only listen to junk like Justin Bieber and Kelly Clarkson. "Some Other Time" from that album is my all-time favourite. The guitarist is Ian Bairnson. I wrote to him some years ago, and he said he used an Ibanez Musician with the pickup covers taken off on the solo here. If you listen carefully, there are actually two vocalists. The first is a man, Peter Straker, followed by a woman, Jaki Whitren. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EVVzZIBBOAU From the same album. " I Wouldn't Want To Be Like You " The vocalist is Lenny Zakatek. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lenny_Zakatek https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ONoi86Zyj3k " Breakdown " The vocalist is Allan Clarke (The Hollies). https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KJBTOC3Mfpk " Don't Let It Show " https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eCFqLPwEDU4 The full album . Side Two is mainly instrumental and somewhat disappointing though. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-lgsCe-fLG4&t=51s " Alan Parsons Project’s sci-fi rock triumph " I Robot" still asks prescient questions. QUOTE(mgis @ Jul 31 2019, 12:11 PM) Yes, there are quite a number of online radiostations playing the 80s these days. https://www.internet-radio.com/stations/80s/ https://www.radio.net/genre/80s https://www.hit-tuner.net/en/genre/80s.html http://xs80s.com/ http://www.radioline.co/listen-to-absolute-80s http://www.my-radios.com/cs/radio/live/207...-Best-Net-Radio https://www.accuradio.com/eighties/ https://www.slacker.com/station/80s-hits https://absoluteradio.co.uk/80s/ https://www.iheart.com/live/iheart80s-radio-5060/ http://themixradio.co.uk/80s/ https://planetradio.co.uk/absolute-80s/ https://www.heart.co.uk/80s/ http://star1079.com/ http://www.radio-canada-online.com/radio/80s-90s-154 |
