Its only roaming calls where they make money but yeah...sms will never be charged both ways.

And the fact is that, the roaming rates aren't that cheap after all. SMS will be charged at the same rate am i right? smile.gif

how to activate 3G? I did it online, and the service settings were sent to me. However I tried browsing to a website. cannot work.
Any sim card can right? Mine is quite old. the 64k version I think (when maxis made the first announcement that sim cards can be changed)

but in the settings, i see 5 different configs.
Maxis, Maxis 3G, Maxis WAP 3G, Maxis 3G WAP, Maxis WAP GPRS...
which one?

somehow i got it working. haha. i deleted all the extra profiles, leaving the default maxis. then i reapplied, using the *136#, then configurator. received the settings, saved them, then tried to connect. it worked.

then hands itchy, go apply for POC and something else. so now i have 2 other maxis configs, in addition to the default maxis and maxis 3g wap

PS: something wrong with me or the phone (7390). If i hold it and surf, the connection drops from full to 1 bar. If i leave it on the table and use fingers to press, connection is full bar. -.-

Maxis has also allocated RM3.5mil for the installation of an anti-spamming solution to detect and block unsolicited short message services from abroad from reaching its 8.5 million subscribers.

Dobberstein said the anti-spamming solution, which would be deployed next month, was expected to reduce spam activities by 80% to 90%.

He added that Maxis would implement itemised billing for Hotlink subscribers by year-end as its prepaid users currently had no way of telling if they had been charged for unsolicited SMSes.

Maxis links up with content providers to reduce spam

KUALA LUMPUR: Telecommunications giant Maxis has linked up with 18 external content providers (ECP) under its Elite Partners Programme to raise the standards of the industry and to reduce SMS spam and hoaxes.

However, upon further inspection of the list of 18 ECPs that was revealed on Tuesday, it was found that three of the ECPs were ECPs that had repeatedly contravened guidelines set by the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC).

Such ECPs had their short codes (3xxxx) suspended by the MCMC for continuing to send SMSes to the public (while charging for them) even though a customer had asked for the SMS service to stop.

When asked why such ECPs were allowed to partner with the telco, Maxis products and new business head Dr Nikolai Dobberstein pointed out that such ECPs were sometimes suspended because they made technical mistakes and not because they had deliberately set out to cheat customers.

However, Dr Dobberstein agreed that there were the black sheep out there and that MCMC and the telcos needed to weed those out.

"We will definitely not tolerate violations by ECPs in this new group. If they are found to be in violation of the rules, they will be suspended," he said.

Asked when Maxis would implement itemised billing for pre-paid users because users currently have no way of telling if they had been charged for unsolicited SMSes, Maxis head of content development, T. Kugan said it would be introduced by the fourth quarter.

ECPs are companies that provide content for mobile phone users through avenues such as SMS, MMS, 3G and Wap.
