I'm feeling overwhelmed with the amount of info i'm getting on this thread.
So i'll try to cut it short.

Need some advice :

Budget : RM4-6k
i7
min 16GB RAM.
15"
~2kg. (preferable below as i move around quite abit)
Usage : mediocre gaming, some video editing

Whats the difference between i7 8th and 9th gen? if i'm to pay >5k, should i just go for 9th gen instead?

i'm leaning towards Illegear's Prodigy right now. but i would love to know if there are other similar options out there.

Big thanks in advance.

You mean difference between 8750H and 9750H? There are some differences but in short, not that significant. Also pls don't use '8th gen' and '9th gen' - these terms are confusing

Prodigy runs hot

No preference on battery life? Max 2kg weight?

Do you really need a thin and light tho. Also need to consider Asus poor QC+QA and warranty

not particular on batt life haha. approx 2kg -/+...the lighter the better. i know there are very few choices if i were to set <2kg lol.

Level51 Slate-15 - slightly weak CPU cooling
Illegear Onyx Lite
Commandos Katana 5 - weak CPU cooling (tweaked out of the box for better performance though)

Either you get a good unit or a lemon...and if you get lemon, good luck with the RMA

Thermals in GU502 aren't that good (barely OK even after tweaking)

Max weight preferred in kg? No preference on battery life?

Thanks bro.

I just configured both Illegear below:

Onyx Lite (RM5.4k)
i7-8750
mechanical keyboard
GTX 1060
1.95kg | 18.5mm

Prodigy (RM5.5k)
i7-9750
membrane keyboard
GTX 1660
1.75kg | 19.9mm

Both have pros n cons. might have to visit the showroom to decide between the two lol

Prodigy runs hot, would go for Onyx Lite despite lower specs - I would get good cooling rather than better specs

Thanks. Needed that advice.
This is probably a newbie question, but better cooling = better performance?

would like to compare MSI PS63 Modern 8SC vs the above 2 Illegear models - Prodigy & Onyx Lite

Specs below :

PS63 (RM5.5-6k)
i7-8565U
GTX 1650 MAX Q 4GB GDDR5
1.6kg | 15.9mm

any comments which would be the better choice?

I was there at Illegear today. Checked out all the models incl Raven SE-R which they said launched yesterday.

Decided to go with Prodigy in the end. i am not a very heavy user, so i can live with GTX1650 haha. prefer to have slimmer and lighter laptop as I would be moving around quite abit.

But damn, Raven SE-R is a very good deal. haha
