So i was wondering, would a noise suppressor do the trick? Would it really be effective? If so, which one would you recommend? Thanks in advance.

I've got a really annoying problem. Whenever i sweep pick, i get quite a lot of string noise. My technique is above average, so i don't really think it's because of my technique. And whenever i'm playing lead, i also get unwanted noise.

If I'm not mistaken, a noise suppressor is usually used when you're not playing anything and there's still a noise... like if you mute all the strings, and still there's noise coming out of your amp...So i was wondering, would a noise suppressor do the trick? Would it really be effective? If so, which one would you recommend? Thanks in advance. If you're playing and there's still a lot of unwanted noise, technique aside, it could be that your gain setting is too high... |

either that or try slowing down and play at low BPM's, if during low BPM's the sound is not there then it could be your technique?

Its there even at low BPM man. I heard from a friend that his Boss NS-2 clears all these unwanted noise, but i don't know whether i can really count on him or not. Haha.

To my knowledge, a noise surpressor surpresses noise in your system (created by the electronics). Fret noise comes from your playing and thus goes through your PUs. Fret noise is always technique related (or sometimes guitar setup related, eg string action and PU height etc etc). There is no way to surpress it unless you go MIDI
But i don't think it's bad or sloppy. Even as i listen to many pros. Fret noise all over the place. Especially in the bass world. Sounds pretty cool to me. This post has been edited by Bassix: Jun 26 2007, 07:28 PM |

^Noise gate! That was what i meant, haha. Sorry, a little blur.
So what would be a good yet affordable noise gate? |

Sorry man, don't know about the pin things. And the amp is grounded properly. Yea, its a H-S-H Ibanez 370DX.
I don't think it's a problem with my gear, because it doesn't have a hum or anything when I'm striking single notes. Its just that i need something to help me clean up my playing a little bit when doing fast soloing and such. |

i think for your case
what u need is a noise suppressor something like a rocktron hush if it is electronic noise la if its fret noise then its more or less, technique or maybe too much gain? |

I think you have too much gain. I think in this case its a matter of technique.

Most likely a technique problem, I think everyone's advice is in the best of interest of you not spending extra money in light of reducing unwanted fret noise when you sweep pick.
Anyway, a well thought of rig (noiseless) is better than the best noisegate in the world. Noisegate kills some of your dynamics and tone. If having high gain if what you want, try lowering it a little, barely noticeable for you to fell the difference. Then after sometime, lower it again etc. It's a matter of getting used to the lower gain. You'll find that your playing is much more cleaner and whatnot. |

I just use the R-Fier setting on my Cube for distortion. Sounds a little better than the Metalzone through the clean channel. Planning on getting the Roland footswitch to switch between the clean and lead channel. Haha, for the meantime i'm switching channels "manually".
