if somebody is already at that level ..why would he take the exams for ..

i am an unqualified teacher for 4 years, my music school always say wanna sponsor me go take performers...

you know ..you get the feeling like ..i don't need to prove anything to anyone ..
i just tell my students /BOSS/ student's parents ..go ahead and change teacher if you want a teacher with a paper..
and it makan my time all..malas ler..

trust me bro , for contemporary style ..people will consider experience , recommendations , number of language spoken, commitment-punctuality-responsibility , ability to social/teach ...more than how good you play (at a certain level ) and what grade /cert you at

yeah..i think basically ..taking exams ..for alot of people ..is about self satisfaction
knowing that you nailed that test easily without effort..

and you are recognized all..

anyway..i got a position for teaching classical guitar ...part time..you choose what day and time you wanna teach...in USJ ...all i need is grade 5 above ..and the right attitude..

aiya..if you look at modes this way...susah la...this is the hard-ass way ..

anyway , whenever you improvise ..you unconsciously use different modes already ..

for modes , i prefer to see it in the "chord progression" angle..than notes (how you are seeing it)

anyway...click on Guthrie Govan's Video that led zep posted...

guthrie's example

the first improvisation ..

C major Chord all the way - he used C major scale

2nd improvisation (Dorian)

Dm -G - he used C major scale..

my example : (phrygian )

E - Fmaj7 - use C major scale

get the idea ? its all about the arrangement of the chord ..lol..please take note..hardcore theory dudes will disagree with my post ..

cause they will argue there will be special situations / complicated situations etc..
but guess what ..you need to have a "noob" foundation before you wanna learn more ..and i couldn't find any simplier way to explain it than this..after you get this ..from there , slowly build up your knowledge..like i said , say no to hard-ass way to start ..its like practicing 180bpm before 120bpm

well , in the end..its how you use the scale..not how many modes , scale you know ..cheers

and...your question ..ermm...

just say ..chord progression " Am - G - Dm - Am "

you use..A minor scale..which is normal ..and .YES .you only use A minor scale....NOTHING ELSE.

you may hear other people telling you sh1t like...

"you can use A minor scale on this chord progression..oh yea.you can also use A phrygian scale"

those are bull sh1t ...i repeat..ONLY A MINOR ..

The Chords already determined what modes/feel the song is like

any additional notes you put in the solo , or arrangement ...

in the end it boils down to A minor scale(root A C E ) , if not it would be a bebop or a chromatic scale

If you start your solo with a "G" note...then..you are just voicing out Am7 arpeggio o your solo..you are not changing mode or feel









thats why..alot of players who wanna start learning jazz..thinks that in order to play a jazz solo

his major scale ...C D E F G A B ...needs to add some note into some cekap scale ..i.e ..C C# D E Eb F G A Bb
then only he can play a jazz solo ...

bullsh1t...its all about how you arrange your notes and the chords ...i can name you how many songs , countless of players
played jazz by using the major scale only ..

anyway


i would like to add on..at this level ...alot of this is individual interpretation already...

so..people might disagree , people might agree..be your own guru

yeah..change your scale.

hmmm..duno...for me..seeing what key a song is ..is based on experience ...works faster this way

you cannot see first Chord ..then conclude what key it is in already..

must look at it as a whole...see the arrangement ..the chord before and after


just like my previous example...chord progression : E -F maj7 - G-Fmaj7 -E
is not in the key of E major ...

but its in the key of C major / A minor ...the first chord only.. doesn't tell the key of the song



Em-G#m-C#m-A ...duno..if i were to play a solo....G#m , C#m and A is very obvious its in E major key ..

when i am at E minor..i will probably play E major scale , adding a G in my scale ..and focus on that note

C-D-Em ..obvious E minor ler..

anyway...you need to Solo and play more songs then you will get the idea ..

stop playing those Christian Songs / punk / rock etc...

try going for songs that transpose alot..i.e ..Korean Pop , Taiwan Pop , Hong kong pop ...like Michael learns to rock - paint my love ..

then you will get an idea la...the moment you see this few chords arranged together..then you will be like "oh..thats a Gminor progression"
