QUOTE(Rossie @ Aug 10 2007, 10:22 PM) how many people you know actually do that ? if somebody is already at that level ..why would he take the exams for .. i am an unqualified teacher for 4 years, my music school always say wanna sponsor me go take performers... you know ..you get the feeling like ..i don't need to prove anything to anyone .. i just tell my students /BOSS/ student's parents ..go ahead and change teacher if you want a teacher with a paper.. and it makan my time all..malas ler.. ABRSM / classical different market la.. no hard feelings ...just an opinion... like you said lar bro ...the exam is probably pointless for me ..(cause i am not doing music in the future anyway) but it may be useful for some other people This post has been edited by gapnap: Aug 11 2007, 02:36 AM |

QUOTE(SweetTooth @ Aug 11 2007, 02:37 AM) i think its mainly for those who want to become teachers at schools, they need a cert to prove their level.. for casual players like us its pointless unless you just want something to show off trust me bro , for contemporary style ..people will consider experience , recommendations , number of language spoken, commitment-punctuality-responsibility , ability to social/teach ...more than how good you play (at a certain level ) and what grade /cert you at there's this dude that just passed Grade 8 and he's the type that brags alot but the boss at guitar collection tmn tun said that he's not a good player at all, just that he can play the exam pieces, thats all |

QUOTE(asura_86 @ Aug 27 2007, 09:55 PM) where's micheal romeo, that symphony x guitarist? he's quite fast also right? i think the list refers to alternate picking only..never knew that mark tremonti can pick that fast... Romeo is more of a sweep , tap , legato feller anyway..that list is damn inaccurate 1.Rusty Cooley is confvckinfirm above 20 nps.. 2. Same goes for Shawn Lane .. if that list is true ..i think me , valkyrie and rustreever pawn some of the stars already ... anyway... here is a more accurate list ..(its been updated and edited)..back then...2003,2004 me and a few of Ultimate guitar shredders made it... method: using guitar pro to calculate it..some of them who played note for note timed themselves http://ultimate-guitar.com/forum/showthread.php?t=366820 now we are all unactive cause of the noobfest..lol This post has been edited by gapnap: Aug 27 2007, 10:56 PM |

QUOTE(+3kk! @ Aug 31 2007, 10:44 AM) anyone help me with modes? aiya..if you look at modes this way...susah la...this is the hard-ass way ..whats the diff? a c maj for example consists of the following CDEFGAB in which the 7 modes are also the same scale only that they start on a diff note. what makes it different then playing the c maj the whole neck? i start with a D and still maintain the CDEFGAB im still playing in the C key and using the C maj. anyway , whenever you improvise ..you unconsciously use different modes already .. for modes , i prefer to see it in the "chord progression" angle..than notes (how you are seeing it) anyway...click on Guthrie Govan's Video that led zep posted... guthrie's example the first improvisation .. C major Chord all the way - he used C major scale 2nd improvisation (Dorian) Dm -G - he used C major scale.. my example : (phrygian ) E - Fmaj7 - use C major scale get the idea ? its all about the arrangement of the chord ..lol..please take note..hardcore theory dudes will disagree with my post .. cause they will argue there will be special situations / complicated situations etc.. but guess what ..you need to have a "noob" foundation before you wanna learn more ..and i couldn't find any simplier way to explain it than this..after you get this ..from there , slowly build up your knowledge..like i said , say no to hard-ass way to start ..its like practicing 180bpm before 120bpm well , in the end..its how you use the scale..not how many modes , scale you know ..cheers This post has been edited by gapnap: Aug 31 2007, 12:44 PM |

QUOTE(+3kk! @ Aug 31 2007, 03:13 PM) YES...and...your question ..ermm... just say ..chord progression " Am - G - Dm - Am " you use..A minor scale..which is normal ..and .YES .you only use A minor scale....NOTHING ELSE. you may hear other people telling you sh1t like... "you can use A minor scale on this chord progression..oh yea.you can also use A phrygian scale" those are bull sh1t ...i repeat..ONLY A MINOR .. The Chords already determined what modes/feel the song is like any additional notes you put in the solo , or arrangement ... in the end it boils down to A minor scale(root A C E ) , if not it would be a bebop or a chromatic scale If you start your solo with a "G" note...then..you are just voicing out Am7 arpeggio o your solo..you are not changing mode or feel thats why..alot of players who wanna start learning jazz..thinks that in order to play a jazz solo his major scale ...C D E F G A B ...needs to add some note into some cekap scale ..i.e ..C C# D E Eb F G A Bb then only he can play a jazz solo ... bullsh1t...its all about how you arrange your notes and the chords ...i can name you how many songs , countless of players played jazz by using the major scale only .. anyway i would like to add on..at this level ...alot of this is individual interpretation already... so..people might disagree , people might agree..be your own guru Added on August 31, 2007, 4:48 pm QUOTE(+3kk! @ Aug 31 2007, 04:42 PM) o.............................another question not every song has 1 key...at the first part "Em G# C# A " ..i duno..lazy to think..but for now i would say its a E majorhow does one know the key of the song? ok i know that standard rule of sharps, and flats but what happens if there is an "out of key" chord? how do we spot that for example nirvana - lithium Em G# C#5 A C5 D5 B5 D5 based on my knowledge that comes to a series of notes which include A,B,C,C#,D,E,F#,G,A whats the key? it doesnt fit in any major or minor scale i know of mainly cause there is 3 half steps together there. then .."C D B D" would be E minor This post has been edited by gapnap: Aug 31 2007, 05:03 PM |

QUOTE(+3kk! @ Aug 31 2007, 05:12 PM) ok so they changed the key, so if i were to put a solo i have to change my scale also? dont have to calculate, it out. just point to me where should i look to calculate it. also how do i know there is a change in key? how does one tell its a E minor, if we are to look at the first progression, its an Em wor how is it a major? yeah..change your scale.man this is really confusing. how am i to put the correct scales to solo without knowing the key, even then how am i to play ontop of things that are not in the key hmmm..duno...for me..seeing what key a song is ..is based on experience ...works faster this way you cannot see first Chord ..then conclude what key it is in already.. must look at it as a whole...see the arrangement ..the chord before and after just like my previous example...chord progression : E -F maj7 - G-Fmaj7 -E is not in the key of E major ... but its in the key of C major / A minor ...the first chord only.. doesn't tell the key of the song Em-G#m-C#m-A ...duno..if i were to play a solo....G#m , C#m and A is very obvious its in E major key .. when i am at E minor..i will probably play E major scale , adding a G in my scale ..and focus on that note C-D-Em ..obvious E minor ler.. anyway...you need to Solo and play more songs then you will get the idea .. stop playing those Christian Songs / punk / rock etc... try going for songs that transpose alot..i.e ..Korean Pop , Taiwan Pop , Hong kong pop ...like Michael learns to rock - paint my love .. then you will get an idea la...the moment you see this few chords arranged together..then you will be like "oh..thats a Gminor progression" This post has been edited by gapnap: Aug 31 2007, 09:24 PM |

QUOTE(blacktrix @ Sep 16 2007, 11:28 PM) Still, they are slowly trying to be a big one....... and you have to give them credit for that......... the truth is ...Soon, a Guitar utopia will be upon us, where we can test out equipment without being hassled and prices are REASONABLE and FAIR. Like I said about Ovation, call up CK Music and find out....... i fvckin support bentley /ck music / js music cause its the only place that offer me nice discounts anyway.. 1 thing you all can hope for ...(which ...has 0.0001 chance of happening ) is .. big corporate no.2 comes in ..ibanez , fender etc has 2 distributors in Malaysia then it will be like a Maxis vs Digi thing i can imagine sh1t like ..."pay 5000 for this ibanez prestige and add RM50 for the next one" woohoo wait a minute ..actually it can happen la..all you need is 50m capital to start a company This post has been edited by gapnap: Sep 16 2007, 11:37 PM |
