Hi guys, I'm new to the Ham radio scene (only recently came to know about Ham radio and the community).

Got some noob questions. I understand there are regulations and also Ham radio license. Wanna ask:

1. Do I need license if I transmit in UHF Citizen Band?
2. What are the Penalties and Fines for transmitting without license?
3. With license, is it you are then allowed to transmit through more frequency range and at higher power?

Thank you for your time!

Hi,

1. No, you don't need to have a license if you're transmitting on UHF CB since they're under class assignment. But do remember, you still need SKMM approved devices (usually walkie-talkie) to be able to transmit.
2. According to SKMM, its RM300K.
3. Yes, with a B license, you'll be able to transmit on VHF (144-148), UHF (430-440), HF (7.00-7.200, 28.000-29.700, 50.000-54.000). With A license, you'll be able to transmit on more bands/frequencies.

I'm sorry, I have no idea. I don't think so. Even the approved radios for us hasn't been updated since long time ago.

UPDATE:

Starting 01/01/2023, MCMC has introduced a new class for starter. So, anyone who're interested in the hobby will start with Class C (9W3) first before upgrading to Class B, and a year later to Class A. The exams have been reorganised and new question banks have been released. There will be no longer CW (Morse Code) test for Class A, replaced with technical written test (objective test) instead.

Latest 3rd edition guidelines, new handbook, question banks for Class C, B, A can be found here:
