just received my epson l4360. took 3 days to be delivered...
setting it up works. but the wifi... was hell to setup
to be fair, i am using a homelab setup not typical for normal users, because i use pfsense with vlan enabled. so my private network on wifi 7 (5/6 ghz) is separate from the guest network running (2.4/5ghz)
then u got the issue where my guest prefers 5ghz. But these devices prefer 2.4 like i found out for this l4360
Oddly, connecting to the guest wifi which is 2.4/5ghz works. i printed out printer network status. it works.
so i can only think that it's my vlan settings causing issues for this to work.
anyway, so i setup the wifi direct. usually wifi direct is meant for if you dont have a wifi ap to connect to. but i am using it out of desperation because the standard wifi ap connect method didn't work.
but i am glad to inform wifi direct worked no problem for both android smartphone and also desktop pc connected via wifi.
i first setup the printer using the android app guide. then use the printer screen to follow the instructions on android.
once all that was done, then i setup the wifi direct later. once that was done, i had to EXIT the windows setup app. Even if your in the middle of setting up, it advices to close it and start again if you had fix the wifi elsewhere.
Once i did that, the setup worked all the way.
then i use the epson updater app on windows, then it updated all the epson apps. Some of you may think it's bloatware, but i installed all of it
i tested printing via the epson android app, it works.
windows printing still testing.
*update
using solid explorer, i shared 2 pictures to the epson app, it can then print those 2, and i select auto double sided (this printer model supports that). it works.
There is a pic selector from the epson app, but i preferred using solid explorer to find the pics or documents to printer from. just multi select and share

oo the double print, it prints the 1 page, then sucks it back to flip it, then prints on the other side. just to be perfectly clear.
windows pc did manage to connect during setup, but not working now. no idea why.
but android works. even when i switched from the guest to the wifi 7 (5/6 ghz) it still works
i did the initial via 2.4ghz guest network. maybe it would have worked on the wifi7 but i cannot say for sure. but it works after the wifi direct was setup.
my usage pattern will be rarely print. so for maintenance, i will not be powering off the printer at all. instead i will allow it to go into deep sleep, and just wake it up every 1-2 weeks to print 1-2 pages to keep it from clogging.
to get it to deep sleep, by default it does so after 13 minutes idle. or you can adjust the timer in settings if u prefer, but this is fine
if you are wondering about the print head during deep sleep, it's fine
QUOTE
Yes, when the Epson EcoTank L4260 enters its deep sleep or standard sleep mode, the print head is automatically returned to its "home" or "parked" position and is sealed by a capping mechanism.
This capping action is crucial for preventing the ink in the nozzles from drying out and causing clogs. It's the same mechanism used when the printer is properly powered off via the power button. This process is why leaving your inkjet printer plugged in and using the power button to turn it off or allowing it to enter sleep mode is generally recommended, as it ensures the print head is properly protected.
so this is how u maintain the health (or more specifically to keep the ink in printer from clogging in pipes and print head) by doing what i mentioned.
thats my mini guide so far.
ooo, i did not see any wired ethernet port. doesn't matter since i was gonna be using wireless anyway. but i ended up using wifi direct, but it works, so i don't particularly. even better, it works even while i am using my wifi 7 5/6ghz connection

(then i dont have to toggle to guest wifi just to use printer each time).
the usb cable i didn't even bother using that. so short.... it's meant to be connect direct to the windows desktop pc or laptop. this is if you cannot rely on the wifi to connect, so you use a hard connect via the usb. i'm really not bothered using that. could get a usb female extender cable? which i am using for my speakers which also has a short usb cable, but really without it, it just works, so why bother.
for the hardware, it has a store the print out tray. u go to the printer screen ui, click store tray, and it auto does it. my thinking is, is this a feature that may wear out? doesn't seem totally necessary, just another part that may fail in future. it's nice, but not really that necessary.
i like that you can fill the ink without also lifting the lid of the main printer to do so. but in all honesty, that is not too big a deal. for example, would u mind that slight annoyance for the l3550 which sells much cheaper than this model? i could put up with that sort of downgrade, since it's not that big a deal. nice but not at the cost of a better price deal

i heard that the hood was spring loaded. but when i lifted to scanner lid, it was not. so be careful. you can lift it all all the way, but don't open half way and let go. it will just slam onto your printer and risk breaking the lid or glass beneath it

the maintenance box is easier to access. older model required a screw. this one you can just yank it open. not that big a deal tbh. some people may prefer the screw, especially if u live in earthquake prone areas like japan. but if a eq happens, your printer is the last thing you'd be worried about

then again.....
i did prod it a bit before i setup, but now that the ink is installed, i don't really want to try open up the innards when it just works. less chance of spoiling something needlessly. it just works.
during the ink loading process that took about 15 minutes or so, and a few test printing pages. the ink used 1 bar of ink. Maybe i should top up but i'll leave as is for now. there is still more left over ink in the bottle. the black bottle is bigger than the others for obvious reasons.
at the side of the printer close to the waste box, there is a warning that you should let the ink levels to hit the LOWEST line. if you do, you risk damaging your printer. it's still a few bars high, so good for now. will be observing the levels from time to time. the LCD screen also reminds you to check the ink levels from time to time.
To wake up the printer from deep sleep, i press the physical button (home button), then it wakes it up. can you wake up from app? i dont know

i wont be printing remotely offsite so a non issue for me.
on samsung phone one ui 8.0 you can force the wifi, mine was a 2.4/5ghz that preferred 5ghz, to force a 2.4 connection, by going to the wifi intelligience and there is a setting for 2.4 for iot setup. click that. then check using wifiman to confirm it switched to 2.4ghz band. this is usually what old wifi tend to support (unfortunately).
do that for the initial setup. when you are done, just switch back. later i tested back to guest, and the 2.4 setting was disabled (good cauz i dont want to use 2.4 unless i have to)
for placement of printer, i use a 5 stacked long shelf with thick wooden base for each level. i put it on the third level which is same height as slightly below chest in arms reach. and 1.6 meters away from my work space. with a wall fan to blow on me and a window to air during the day. perfect placement for printer

yes placement of printer matters.
and another reason why i avoided laser printers. there is a health aspect to printers people aren't aware of and setting themselves up for failure.
QUOTE
Risks of Prolonged Proximity
Having the ecotank printer at arm's reach for long periods is generally considered low-risk, provided the area is well-ventilated.
Airborne Emissions: Inkjet printers emit significantly fewer particles than laser printers, which release toner dust and higher levels of volatile organic compounds (VOCs).
Potential Symptoms: In poorly ventilated spaces, prolonged exposure to ink vapors or fine mists during high-volume printing may cause respiratory irritation, headaches, or dizziness.
QUOTE
Understanding Inkjet Printer Emissions
The Epson L4360 is an inkjet printer, which operates by spraying liquid ink onto paper. This process is inherently different from laser printers, which use dry toner powder and high heat.
Ozone and Particles: Inkjet printers do not produce ozone gas and emit significantly fewer ultrafine particles (UFPs) and volatile organic compounds (VOCs) than laser printers.
Ink Solvents: The primary emissions concern with inkjets is the evaporation of solvents from the ink, which might be noticeable as a mild odor. Using certified, original Epson ink and ensuring good airflow helps to minimize any potential irritation from these fumes.
Idle Mode: When the printer is powered on but not printing, it typically enters a low-energy "sleep mode" and emissions are minimal to non-existent. The main activity during idle periods might be a periodic, brief cleaning cycle to prevent clogs.
*i can confirm the epson tng ewallet redemption is real
https://my.epson.com.my/s/my-redemption?language=en_USafter u register your warranty the epson malaysia site, there is a redeem button. click that and fill out the form.
once done it says this
QUOTE
THANK YOU.
Thank you for your recent purchase of Epson products.
Your submission of rewards has been well received and will be processed within 21 Working Days.
Once your submission is approved, your e-Voucher* will be sent to your registered email
the promo for the tng ewallet is limited. so they can run out. also, they have a MINIMUM purchase price. i paid about RM 785 after voucher but seems i still qualify. But there is a L3550 i saw going for about rm450 or so. i don't know if that qualifies at that price

but u can ask. also obviously, you should have the tng e wallet setup ready to receive the funds if you haven't already.
warranty period only up to jan 2027 so basically 1 year .... are they not confident their product will last? lel, makes me slightly worried.
somethings i did not like.
what is this epson research? during the setup i rejected this. basically they want your info. i see no reason to give it.
then you got epson connect service. this is from the printer settings from the lcd screen. i did not use it. but i did go to their site to register warranty from there with my epson account. so what is the purpose of this epson connect service that claims my device is not registered? what is it for? felt like spyware or something, so i didn't do anything with it. it asks you to connect to the epson connect service, and email etc. seems unnecessary? maybe i misunderstood. i'll look into it later.
*update
found out. the epson connect is their cloud feaature. meaning you can do printing online from anywhere via epsons cloud connect feature. i don't need that. don't trust the cloud infra especially for printing sensitive documents.
