Hi guys, anyone of you investing in US stock using Ameritrade currently? I just registered and want to deposit the fund into my account now.

May I know for those using Ameritrade now, you deposit via TT? Or using Instarem or Transferwise? Which one has the lowest rate?

Note: TDAmeritrade US doesn't accept Asia-based customers. They move all of us to TDA SG liao (earlier called TDA Asia)

A. based on my Qs and As received from TDA SG & Transferwise:
TDA SG needs transfers from 1st party - ie. from your bank a/c, not 3rd party like Transferwise.

B. based on my multiple transfers in 2014 to 2016:
1. MBB & CIMB online TT least hassles VS going to bank and sometimes get stupid Qs from holier-than-thou bank officers
2. HOWEVER, note that U can transfer a max of $30K (earlier limit) or $50K (2016 limit) per day only
AND each transfer, TDA SG charges USD20 or USD25 - can't recall offhand as i was doing both OptionsXpress & TDASG earlier.

C. based on other investors/traders in a facebook group i'm in:
still same kaka, diff Gov like (B.) now - some still face hassles doing transfer via banks' officers quoting BNM saythisthat but wont give in writing
VS online

my experience with tdameritrade isnt that good and i am used to be their Apex customer in usa.
it is difficult to do withdrawal from the account. small amount maybe not an issue. plus the agent in tdameritrade SG isnt very professional in handling cash withdrawal.

by the way their trading platform isnt bad but the fees that they charge isnt the most competitive in the market. i had close those account eversince they transfer all asian client toTD singapore.

also, bnm still blacklist tda?

or can I open a FCA account, deposit in USD physically, and do the transfer?

then when I withdraw from TDA, i deposit to my FCA and stored in USD, can do?

either way you still kena charged. If not how else you expect the money can transfer from their bank account to your bank account and vise versa? The only way you can incur no bank charges is if you got US bank account. Since TDA bank account is at US.

hi guys, i used to be interactive broker client, but nowadays i just want to buy US ETF and hold to maturity. Getting old, no longer actively trading. I'm considering TD Ameritrade, but now i read that TD Ameritrade cost USD10 per transaction (plus all the hassle of opening an account). Any idea on the cheapest way to get into US market for hold/non trading position?

I used to have one when they were not so stringent about rules. Although you save on transaction fees if you have dependents it might not be such a good idea.

If something touch wood happens to you your dependents would have to hire a lawyer in the US to administer the disbursement of your asset there and if I am not wrong above a certain amount I think it is USD 50k you have to pay estate duties.

If you have something like less then rm 50k your dependents might get nothing as legal fees might cost more then that to get it back.

Hey tiramisu83,

I am thinking of opening a TD ameritrade SG account too. i have a few questions for you if you can help me answer:

1. Is there a minimum deposit required to open an account?

2. is there a minimum deposit that needs to be maintained at the end of the billing month in my account?

3. is there a minimum deposit required in the account before i am allowed to buy/sell stocks?

4. is there any monthly fee?

thanks

U mean these?:
https://onlinetaxman.com/foreign-investment-in-us-tax/
For estates, US Citizens and tax residents currently receive a tax exemption of over $11.18 million (2018). Unfortunately for NRAs, this amount is a mere $60,000. However if you as a non-resident are married to a US citizen, you still get an unlimited marital deduction.

Assets known as US situs assets are subject to this $60,000 estate tax threshold. US situs assets include US real estate, US stocks (even for owning publicly traded companies such as Google), cash accounts with US brokerage firms and certain debts to US debtors.

note - NRAs = Non-resident Aliens, eg. me, a non-US citizen (Alien) not living in US
AND YES, i was scared kaka when i found that out - i was with OptionsXpress earlier then TDA with enough investments to be painful based on US IRA's NRA's estate tax.

Thus, I've poke TDAA, now called TDASG when TDA pushed all their Asian clients to SG on it:
user posted image

TDAA's response: maint take away = it'll be based on SG Estate laws https://www.iras.gov.sg/irashome/Other-Taxe...ty/Estate-Duty/
user posted image

Just sharing - please do your own due diligence ya. U may want to ask pointed questions to TDASG. Please do share if it's you found that NRA's stocks/cash/options with TDASG is exposed to US' IRA's ya - ie. things changed or clearer these days. Thank U in advance.

Hi, i open a td ameritrade account as well during MCO. I do try a lot of methods but end up using maybank to do the TT transfer. You can use cimb online to do but i found that the limit cap only at 10k max.

Or u can try go to cimb branch and do as below:

there is no limit if you go to the branch and fill up the form for wire transfer. your 10k limit probably cap by your ATM withdrawal limit.

hi guys, i'm an Ameritrade user here. Open my account just last month.

I made my transfer using CIMB Clicks, under 'Foreign Telegraphic Transfer'. I got query by bank officials about the transfer. I just furnish them the info they asked for and i got my fund wired in. Will take a few days to get it cleared.

According to TDA SG customer service, you need to deposit min USD2000 to get real time data. Else, it'd show 'delayed data'.

After deducting other charges, my credited amount was USD1980 and fortunately i get access to real time data as well.

How did you acquire their Business Registration Number? I’ve searched for it on their website but I can’t find one and I’ve emailed their representative but there’s still no reply

I googled search for it actually. tongue.gif

https://www.sgpbusiness.com/company/Td-Amer...ngapore-Pte-Ltd

The staffs tend to take long time to respond to queries. Reason then was due to circuit breaker. Now they should be back to normal i guess. There's also a sharp increase in the number of applications to open an account. I applied in May 2020 and during that time they were processing applications submitted in Apr 2020.

TDASG now introduces $0 commissions on online US stock, ETF and option trades.

Otherwise, you can use alternative brokers below:
1. Webull - $0 commission, free live quotes and no monthly fee same as TDASG.
2. Tradestation global (whitelabel of IBKR)- low commission and no monthly fee.

For remittance to TDASG, I always use online CIMBClick- ''foreign telegraphic transfer'' instead of speedsend or moneygram as both consider third party agent which is not allowed by TDASG.
Make sure you fill in the correct details at cimbclick.

For Malaysian, we need to open webull account via its mobile apps instead. Once the account approved, you can fund and trade at their website or mobile apps. thumbup.gif
Pls refer here for more details: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xqxaK_MOk7Q

Webull provides a monthly subscription of Nasdaq TotalView quotes which are more advanced than level 2 quotes. thumbsup.gif

The signing up process is very annoying & the website is not very intuitive.

Where is the option for me to choose between cash & margin account?

Registered an account two years back. Still find the platform interface very confusing. Going through their manual and some Youtubes also don't seem to help. Any pointers would be very helpful.

Would it be a good idea for me to use this broker? I have cash in a spare UK bank account that I can move around as the bank transfers internationally with Transferwise. The money is in GBP.

I also want to just buy some ETFs and just sit on it for the next few years. Currently, I use Trading212, but I don't like the fact that it has no fundamental data on any of the stocks/ETF I want to buy. Also I have to go through 2 currency conversions since the account's base currency is in Euro and the ETFs I want to buy is in GBP.

Considering TD Ameritrade, but got trading fees? I thought is free?

Depends on what's your definition of difficult. Can you swallow a USD25 each time you withdraw money?
Not to mention agent fees, bank fees, higher conversion rates by banks.

Cannot. TD only deals in US market.
There's a section in trading212 for fundamentals.
I have seen it.

You don't need 2 currency conversion.
Deposit into trading212 in euro using TransferWise.
Only convert to GBP once you really want to sell.

I do want to buy US ETFs. Right now, the ETF I have bought in T212 is the Vanguard S&P500 ETF, but denominated in GBP only.

The only thing I'm considering is that 30% witholding tax only

Chipping in about Trading212 cause i didn't see other thread about it. I just did transfer to T212'S EUR account using instarem, and i just got an email saying that they cannot receive fund from third party account and that they are going to return the fund unless they have proof that it is a joint account. How to prove that the account is indeed mine or should i just use transferwise instead?

AffinOnline transaction failed.. the Bank call me asking me stupid question like what's the proof that I would use the fund for purchase of stocks instead of Forex.
I told the officer that I need to transfer the fund into my trading account first before I can purchase the stock. She said the Bank had to reject the TT because it's not allowed by BNM bangwall.gif

So I tried CIMBClick again and put my Trading account and my name in the NRIC/Passport column as ss below:

Glad I've come across your post, was searching up and down for the "further payment details" as mentioned by investwise until I saw your post. By the way, did you try to fund more than 10k? Recently CIMB has allowed e-remittance up to 50k limit, wonder if it'll work on 3rd party. Thanks

Dear Guys,

update: so the transfer above worked. I transferred US 60.80 (RM 250) into my TDA SG account and all went in, no less. Apparently Wells Fargo seem to not have charged me the USD 25 dollar wire transfer fee. Maybe the amount was too little so there was no wire transfer fee? Has anyone experienced this?

I will continue to monitor and try transferring a larger sum.

They don't charge you wire transfer fee for incoming, it is charged for outgoing.

Once money arrive in local bank, they convert using their rate (assume send usd to myr account) + some fix rate like 5 USD.

But peanut if you withdrawing hundreds of thousands.

I think you are lucky in that the flow of funds from Malaysia to TD didn't pass thru a correspondent bank that charges you processing fees.

Hmm ok, they need first party transfers. The best is send in bulk, as the charges are there. Or use credit card, net about the same after factor in TT fees. Good time to convert ringgit to USD as well.

Lucky you ..

I kena charge USD30 (they deduct USD30 from the incoming USD into TD), then maybank charge me RM10.

Now with SC putting TD in the alert list, let hope wont have issue of deposit and withdrawal.

I didnt get charged USD30 because it was my first transfer made. They give transfer fee rebate for first time deposits. Later one i deposited more money and the USD30 deduction took place. also Maybank charges RM 10 for the FTT.

Wells Fargo will charge you USD 30 for the incoming wire transfer fee, which is quite hefty, but at least the money appears within the same day or next day in your TD account. I used to use IBKR white label and do ACH transfer from my US account, and the waiting period is like 5 working days, damn long.

I get your point with risk. Its not ideal either way and its always a compromise somewhere.
For those of us trying to fund bit by bit it is a deterrence, but such is the rules today.

Luckily this time it was succesful  rclxm9.gif

Thank you for your sharing.... Btw, did your transfer created successfully into your TD account? Me too, was not able to find the "payment details" or "remarks" to state my account# in cimbclicks and wondering if your method works?

Hi guys, can anyone guide me on how to fund my TDA account via cimbclick Malaysia? I have no idea what should I fill for the NRIC/Passport/Business Registration No. section. And the relationship with the 3rd party and purpose of transfer as show in my photo. Thank you nod.gif

Dear Sifus here

Tumpang my question here. Have you done any transfer to TD Ameritrade via CIMB recently?
I tried online foreign transfer. It got rejected for 3 times.
Wondering whether you face any issue with recent transfer

My TDA SG account is finally approved and I want to transfer money from my Maybank account. Am I filling up the information correctly based on the images above?

"Account number" is taken from the Beneficiary
Under Additional Info, there isnt enough characters for me to put "further credit to...". Can someone give me some guidance???

Does anyone have a step-by-step guide for CIMB foreign transfer? I don't know which transfer purpose to select from the list.

Seems like Maybank foreign transfer is more simple and easier.

Finally I am able to transfer fund into TDA via CIMB Clicks. 1st transaction failed without including SWIFT code as there is no column to fill up, RM10 wasted. After I inquired the CIMB customer service personnel, she told me to fill up the SWIFT code in bracket in bank address column before filling up the first row of bank address. USD2,020 transferred, USD1,995 appeared in my TDA.

Payment Remarks:
For further credit to: ''your name'' / ''123456789''

Btw, where to find the payment remarks? I dont see any in CIMBclicks.

Thanks for your help.

Your transfer from CIMB got charged USD25? I checked with TD Ameritrade, USD25 charge only for withdrawal only? Deposit no charges.. could anyone verify ?

no. Wells Fargo is the final receiving bank... another middle man bank before it is the intermediary bank... either Citi or Chase. Wells Fargo is not approved intermediary bank for SWIFT

Yes... but will charge its customer TDA, not the sender. TDA should enjoy fee free deposits as big customer anyways...

you are confusing the fees... typically when you send money...

1. outgoing wire fee... sender pays (eg RM10)
2. intermediary bank fee... deduct from transfer (eg $25)
3. incoming wire fee... receiver pays (eg $15)

so... you pay 1 & 2

TDA pays 3 but because is big account usually don't need to pay...
