Hi, I'm in the market for new laptop for 3D rendering.
I did my homework and I found these are my options.

Zephyrus g14 Ryzen 4900 8c/16t 2060mq
Onyx G 10th gen 8c/16t 2070mp
Onyx Pro 10th gen 8c/16t 2070mp
Selenite Pro 10th gen 8c/16t 2070mp
Y740 9th gen 6c/12t 2070(?)
Legion 7i 10th gen 6c/12t 2070mq

All of these within 6k-8k
Except for g14 and 7i, price unknown.

I'm leaning towards 7i, but then its hard to justify the price from lenovo canada and bhphoto on it being 6c/12t and 2070mq. North RM8k. I do have student discount. What is your take?

My budget capped at RM8k. Pls help advice.
Thanks!

choose a proper workstation with Quadro for 3D rendering work instead of gaming gpu
*
I'd love to, but I don't do cad. I do 3d with cpu renderer, and looking for possible gpu renderer. I've looked into thinkpad P1 quadro t1000 and find it hard to justify the price since the quadro card is based on gtx with different drivers with a price above my budget.

Gpu renderer is the way forward IMO. UE5 Demo showed us the path.

What programs will you be using? Preferred max weight and min battery life?
*
Adobe suite, 3dmax, C4d with redshift
Weight below 2.5kg (with the power brick), max battery life if possible

Do you think I'm better off with egpu setup? Any suggestion for that too?

eGPU doesn't justify the cost and hassle IMO

If you want weight below 2.5kg with power brick, there aren't many options left - maybe can consider Illegear Onyx Pro, however battery is only 63Wh. G14 has reduced performance due to its size (35W HS CPU, 65W MQ GPU), which isn't ideal either
*
G14 usb c charging is a plus, that goes to 7i as well if im not mistaken.
Since there wont be any intense work done on the move.

I guess onyx g and onyx pro is the way to go.

Really g14, 7i, and onyx v ryzen price and availability are holding me back from pulling the trigger smh

Legion 7i doesn't have USB C / PD charging
*
Ah too bad.

Weight and battery life doesnt really matter, usually plug it in when gaming. Into games like Assasins Creed, Tomb Raider kind. Some old games like CSGO/L4d2
*
Imo depends on usage. I'd like to be able to code and troubleshoot projects on the go. Which makes choosing the right one so hard.

why u need PD charging ??
*
I'm considering my use case scenario. As of now, my phone, ipad, earphone all shared a single charger. This allow me to have a briefcase that I can carry one handed.

Would like to streamline this usage too.
I mean, I won't be doing intense work on the move, which will be more on code, proposals and other light work.

Once back in my workspace then will I plug it in for full intensive use.
So my speculation, pd charge will help this kind of setup.

I saw 7i power brick in a thai unbox video, it is wayy smaller then y740. That's an acceptable compromise. If it does offer usb power out from the power brick, man, one brick to rule them all.

I'm not too tied to this setup, but nice to have.

Lenovo Legion 7i (15)

Part Number: 81YT003TMJ

Rm6677 after apply code.

this a good buy? worth it?
*
6677 Mouse and bag are charged full price
After apply code, edit back your item.
Select and deselect mouse and bag to get rm1

I got everything for rm6402.20

After much consideration between this and OnyxG, I chose 7i
Given the pros and con for my usage, I think its a good purchase for me.
Thanks sifus.

Thanks guys for this. I wouldve never known.
They messed up the product page 😅
I'd much prefer 8c/16t for cpu rendering and 144hz 100% AdobeRGB on the 81YU003MMJ model. Would never notice if not for y'all

Now its such a hassle to change the unit after purchase, hope its worth it.

beware when u use the LENXCIMB code

the RM1 mouse & backpack offer will be gone and u will be charged on the retail price!

anyone managed to get the RM1 with this code?
*
This whole day day I went through massive headache with the sales and the mia payment team just to change order from 7i 10750h to 7i 10875 (misleading info on product page, psref state 10875h)

Decided to make new order and went through the chat team again for this missing rm1 promos, i gave them pictures proof the bug. One of them BS me said the promotion ended yesterday. I didn't proceed.

Then at 7pm, I somehow manage to checkout with the rm1 stuff again.

It is just for tiny upgrade change and got me fuming angry.
You got to make sure man, I've got too excited and it bites

support chat person ask me to refresh after drop at cart

Gotta try and try. I can't pinpoint or replicate success rm1 add ons.
Last try was ordering as guest instead of logged in.
I did clear cache and use incognito mode but I cannot tell what works.
If you manage to get it, i think just proceed check out. You have 5 working days to make bank transfer payment or just cancel.

The bug is real
