I see u mostly listing lenovo Y540 in ur listing. What is the reason? And what differentiates it with MSI GF63?
*
decent, can get discounted price

there are other good options as well

GF63 has mediocre build quality and cooling

Hi ZM Fong, between Y540 and Y7000SE, which one in your opinion is a better choice?

Or should we wait for Zephyrus G14 if the price range is magically around 4k-ish
*
Y540 and Y7000SE are basically the same

G14 need to wait for reviews

Sensei, if my budget is around 4.5k

Whats the equivalent of rtx 2060 laptop I can get?
Also is amd ryzen 7 and amd graphic card not recommended coz I see your list most is nvidia and intel.
*
R7-3750H is slightly slower than i5-9300H, not even compared with i7-9750H. Has some limitations like single core performance (it's still Zen+), less PCIe bandwidth etc. Wait for Ryzen 4000 mobile better

AMD GPU still has a long way to go, not just driver side but also efficiency (they still haven't figure out how to optimize power in laptops)

If you want 2060 laptop under RM4.5k, either go for Lenovo Legion Y540 15 customize (apply code LENXCIMB) or Commandos Glock 5 Alpha. However you probably won't be able to get 144Hz IPS which is a must IMO for such GPU

However, depending on the games and video settings you play, you might lose some frames compared to i7+1660Ti

Which are better between these 2 in your opinion?
By losing some frames, how much would you say the differences? I wouldn't mind if it's just 10 fps
*
Both have their own pros and cons (looks, weight+dimensions, desktop CPU, onsite warranty etc)

If the games you play are CPU heavy then I would suggest i7+1660Ti instead
QUOTE(ry8128 @ Mar 2 2020, 11:01 AM)
Hi, any feedback on legion y7000 se? Is this good enough for medium gaming like monster world or pubg? Reliability and cooling is good?

Since I am not hardcore gamer, I am looking at i5-9300h, 8gb ram and gtx1650 configuration.
*
Good enough for the games you've mentioned

Again, it's a consumer grade laptop so you might get lemon
QUOTE(ry8128 @ Mar 2 2020, 11:02 AM)
Y530 can get lower than 3.1k?

Btw, raven se is within ur budget. If pay cash, I think it's 3040.
*
1050Ti isn't worth it anymore IMO since you can get 1650, unless you want special spec like i7+144Hz

Raven SE base spec has only 1050 GPU
QUOTE(kob3bryant @ Mar 2 2020, 11:23 AM)
Can't get the code to work
Yes 3199 for 1050ti, wonder if it's still a good choice considering that scer nitro 5 with 1650 & 144hz available at 2.7
*
Which configuration you've chosen? Did you tick all the additional upgrades?

Nitro 5 with 120Hz low sRGB IPS FYI, not higher quality 144Hz

Thanks man, already placed a booking for y7000 se with the said configuration.

Hope it can last long and the cooling won't be that hot.
*
I can guide you on thermal testing once you've received the laptop, just to make sure thermals are normal

Thanks man.. Was just reading about gaming performance, and fps of around 40-50 should be enough to enjoy a game properly right? Or need >60fps?

I noticed most of the games especially AAA games wont be able to get >60 fps with gtx1650..
*
I prefer at least 72FPS if I have 144Hz monitor - less tearing. esports titles different of course. Just lower down some settings - you'll be surprised that some video settings don't affect quality much yet has noticeable impact on FPS

I would mostly use it for vr games with oculus rift and pc games such as strategy game.

Not sure if strategy games such as tropico 6, anno or the sims use more cpu or not.

Would 1660ti ok for vr or should i aim 2060?
*
1660Ti is alright

He wants a laptop mainly for making soundtrack. Like DJ kind of things. So he doesn't need a good graphic card but he prefers a large hard disk and anything related to music production. Also, is quadro good? It seems like it's not a popular graphic card, can't really find related info. Thanks sensei
*
I don't think you'll need Quadro for music production

Budget? Any preferences on weight and battery life?

I am thinking of Acer Predator Triton 300 with budget ard 4-4.5K. nt sure if can get i7-9750H, not really wanted i5-9300H. 300 nits. cooling system. I like Acer predator helios 300 but a bit expensive.Nt sure if Lenovo Y540 is better or ? With this budget ard 4K, which is most recommended gaming laptop?
*
Triton 300 has same cooling as Nitro 5 (Intel version), therefore not recommended

Under RM4k:
Lenovo Legion Y540/Y7000SE (premade or customize models with code LENXCIMB)
Illegear Raven SE
Level51 Forge 15

If you don't mind low sRGB 60Hz display, get 1660Ti:
Commandos Glock 5 Plus
Commandos Carbine Evo 4 Plus
QUOTE(user_51 @ Mar 7 2020, 08:40 PM)
Is there any special discount code for lenovo Y540 gaming laptop?
*
LENXCIMB (20%), does not stack with other discounts

Are those above all 144hz 300 nits display?
*
Y540 and Y7000SE have 144Hz (only some premade models or through customize)
Raven SE has optional 144Hz
Forge 15 only 120Hz low sRGB

Btw how important is this 60Hz, 120Hz and 144Hz?

For Illegear below, the def one is 60Hz?
*
if you play games often you'll appreciate high refresh rate display

Yes default is low sRGB 60Hz
QUOTE(user_51 @ Mar 8 2020, 09:51 PM)
actually compared between Lenovo Y540, illegear raven and forge 15, which has the superior cooling?

All of them have decent cooling

now how much MSI GS65 i7 rtx2060 for 8gen or 9gen, should go for 8gen or 9gen?
*
9th gen offer improvement in cooling and build quality, still not the best though compared to similarly priced options. Would suggest getting other options, or wait for GS66 (but 10th gen Intel basically no excitement)

Hi ZM Fong, it seems u are very experience in comp tech and spec. Would like to ask for your opinion..

Hp Pavilion Gaming DK0243Tx RM4076
Level 51 Forge Elite RM4375

Both are having the same spec as i7-9750, gtx1660ti, 512ssd. Difference is the Ram 16gb vs 8gb, and 60hz vs 120hz. And one with w10, another without.

For the price difference of RM299, do u think is worth to get Level 51 or the HP?

I am buying mainly for video editing and normal work only.
Not hardcore on game, maybe once a month when really nth to do. So i think the screen refresh rate is not of a concern unless it affect video editing?

Whats your indepth knowledge about this 2 and your opinion is highly appreciated..
*
Pavilion Gaming 1660Ti is Max-Q, also build quality and cooling not that great

What's your budget? Any preferences on weight and battery life?

Oh i didnt know is Max Q. if thats the case then i think the choice is quite clear already.

My budget is 4000 actually but seeing that if i wan i7 and 1660ti, ive to stretch my budget a little higher. No preferences on other thing as long as the spec i wan, a 15'6, and with a numpad at the side. Doesnt fancy color/mechanical keyboard etc. Most of the time with plugged in so battery is non issue. Weight doesnt matter cause not main for portable usage
*
Forge 15 Elite only has normal response times (unlike 144Hz IPS) and low sRGB

If you want i7+1660Ti+144Hz, have to spend over RM4.5k

U meant the monitor right? Does it affect video editing? The guy at level 51 said it doesnt even if i get the 144hz. l am towards the performance, long lasting with no hardware issue, and future proof for good 5-10yrs. My current asus n56vz last me good 7 years with no problem at all, just that is eating lot of time when rendering and sometimes ended up with broken frame.
*
Yes monitor. If you're doing colour sensitive work, high sRGB is preferred

Realistically, there's no guarantee on how long will the laptop last, in terms of performance (due to newer games) and reliability/longevity
