Why my phone is asking me to update to the new version EMUI 9.0.0 when there is already EMUI 10?

With my phone, the current version is EMUI 9.0.0.127.

New version which I can choose to update to is EMUI 9.0.0.207.

most likely, it needs 207, prior to updating to emui10

Thanks for the response. And you are correct. I needed to update 3 or 4 times to get out from EMUI9.0. Only the 5th update I was directed to EMUI10.

Just spent 20GB or more data to undergo all the upgrades.

RM25??!! Where did you buy it? That's surely cheap. I bought it for RM60. Retail price is RM79 as advertised.

Hi guys, I was wondering if anyone has upgraded the Mate 20X to Mate 40 Pro or 40 Pro Plus. If yes, I am particularly interested to know if the camera of the Mate 40 Pro is significantly better than the Mate 20X in low light or all shooting conditions.

I have always been interested in getting a quality compact camera since 15 or 20 years ago, say the Panasonic Lumix LX7 (now LX100) or Fujifilm X100 etc. but never really own one despite having the budget for it for one simple reason - it is likely I will only use the camera 1 or 2 times in a year and it will most likely end up in the cupboard or something most of the time. The same cannot be said about the phone as people use it every minute of the day. Also, I am not much of a camera enthusiast and have no knowledge of manually adjusting the settings of the camera to take good pictures (exposure, shutter speed etc.) and mostly take photos in auto mode.

Hence, the only practical and most useful option is a phone with a higher quality camera than this Mate 20X. I have to admit that the camera of the 20X is respectable given its hardware limits such as small size of sensor. In good light, the image quality is above average. In low light indoors, it is still acceptable but the images get a little smeared with noise which is perfectly acceptable due to its small sensor. I was thinking of the Mate 40 Pro will be a noticeable if not significant upgrade in performance given its slightly larger sensor of 1/1.28".

Is there anyone who has upgraded to the Mate 40X Pro or Pro+ and noticed higher quality photos with better clarity and detail in all shooting conditions, good light or low light indoors? I am aware there may be other phones that are good but I don't know why I seem to like the Huawei design. I don't particularly like Apple or Oneplus, or Samsung due to the even higher price. However, if anyone owns the Samsung, Oneplus, Google Pixel or any other phones and found the camera to be better than the Mate 20X, please feel free to share. The main interest is still the Mate 40 Pro though.

I noticed a change with the camera after the update. In "Pro mode", there is now option to select the JPG (which we have as standard on the previous version), JPG-L which is a 40MP image with larger size, and RAW.

Would like to ask if any ex Mate 20X owners who upgraded to a phone with higher quality camera that is able to take even better quality photos in all conditions low light or day light? The camera of the Mate 20X is excellent. I've been using this phone for almost 3 years now and the quality of photos is very good, great sharpness and colours even in low light shots in shopping malls etc.

Has anyone tried Huawei Mate 30Pro, P30 Pro or Mate 40pro and P40 Pro, or the latest P50 Pro?

I moved to Vivo X80p, and yes happy with the camera performance and its low light capability.

Thanks for the response. So I presume the camera performance of the Vivo X80 Pro is better than Huawei Mate 20X in both good light and low light. The reviews of the camera on the X80 Pro seem to be great.

Further investigation revealed that the Vivo 80X Pro is RM4k+. I guess I am not up to date (ketinggalan zaman). I thought Vivo phones are low end priced around RM1k or less. That was about 5 years ago. It looks like Vivo now produce costly high end phones costing up to RM5k.

I also got to know after doing some search on the Internet that the highest end model from Vivo is X90 Pro. The camera of the X80 Pro is claimed to be better than the X90 Pro in some reviews. RM4k for a phone is a bit rich for me. All my previous phones don't cost above RM3k as all are RM2k+. Will use my existing Mate 20X until it fails to start up then I'll give this X80 Pro a look. By that time the price may have gone down to more affordable levels. 😁

hi.. for the Mate 20X, any one fixed the side button = the volumn up / down and the power button at KL/PJ area?

if Huawei SC cost about 1K..

I've been living with this condition on my Mate 20X for several months already after all physical buttons on the side of my Mate 20X failed to function. The only solution is to install the On/Off app. Just make sure the phone will always be charged. If the phone switched off due to low battery, that's it. You can't switch it on after that and need to bring it to a shop.

I still like my Mate 20 X very much.
It would be great if there's a way to update the OS.
*
Some important apps are not workable for the Mate 20X already as it's not supported by the phone. Can "Air Selangor" apps work on your phone? The new version of the Air Selangor app is not supported by the phone already. I'm not sure what is the difference with the old version of the app. Fortunately, water bills can still be paid through the old version of Air Selangor app.

I'm not sure what other apps will not be supported by the phone later on. It will be a problem with old phones. Even though the phone may still work fine for many years, the problem is it cannot support the latest apps that will be launched in the future.

Yes, many latest apps would not work due to the limitation of Android 10. I use my tablet for those apps now.

Was waiting for Mate 60 Pro but it didn't come... Any chance for Mate 70?
*
No more Huawei for me after they abandoned Android and go with their own Harmony OS since Mate 50 Pro and 60 Pro. I checked their latest Pura phones and similarly, no Android. I am not sure how is the Harmony OS but I surely won't be trying another unfamiliar OS other than Android with Google support. Moreover, the latest Pura 70 is also not cheap and above RM5k if I'm not mistaken not withstanding the OS which does not appeal to me.

I will likely go with Vivo X series when my Mate 20X hit the bucket. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that it will last for another year before I jump ship.

Finally my Mate 20 X die on me. What a great excellent service for past 5 years. Considering either Oneplus 12/13 or Vivo X200 now. It's quite hard to move on from Huawei as I consider the best Android phone in the market but i do need Google ecosystem.

Everything will eventually come to an end. My Mate 20X has been through a lot, thrown by my naughty niece more than 100 times landing on tiled floor, dropped to the floor many times with scratches and cracked screen protector. Everything sitll works fine except for the on/off button which can't work anymore, meaning I can't restart the phone as the button at the side of the phone doesn't work anymore. So I have to rely on the on/off app to restart the phone. I have to make sure the phone is charged before the battery goes completely flat as I would not be able to switch the phone on if it automatically switches off due to low battery.

About 2 months ago I bought the Vivo X90 Pro as a backup just in case my Mate 20X needs to go to the rubbish bin. Touch wood it's still working so I will continue to use it until it fails to function before I switch the SIM card to the new phone. You may consider Vivo X100 Pro or X200 Pro. The Vivo X90 Pro has a good camera, better than Mate 20X due to its 1" type sensor but limited zoom functions where the feature is corrected in the X100 Pro and X200 Pro. Only thing is the X200 Pro's price is on the high side since it's newly launched. I currently use the X90 Pro without a SIM card, just using it to take good photos. I'll swap from Mate 20X to X90 Pro when the Mate 20X decides to finally kick the bucket.

Eventually the power button failed (stucked) ,
Went to One Utama Customer Service Centre and the person who attended told me power button no longer repairable I guess due to no spare part stock? But battery can replace 🙄
I wonder should I try other SC ?

Updated :
Got Huawei Support Center called back after communicated with human agent regarding the power button stock,
It is confirmed parts no longer available. sad.gif

Guess need look for third party service providers that can do the repair..
Anyone have any trusted phone repair shop can recommend?

The power button and volume control buttons on my Mate 20X were out of order since last year. Don't need to repair, just download a Power Menu app to restart the phone if required. I use this app if the phone needs to be restarted for some reasons (slow operation, some apps hang etc.)

You only need to ensure that the phone will always have enough power and don't let it automatically switch off due to low battery. Otherwise you won't be able to switch on the phone again. I have no issue with this arrangement as my phone's battery is always charged.

You can always change to a phone if it's too much of a hassle to you. Don't need to repair already. As a matter of fact, I have bought a new phone last year as a replacement, a Vivo X90 Pro just in case I need to swap to the new phone anytime. Nevertheless, I'm still using the Mate 20X as I don't like to waste something that can still be used.

Eventually I find a phone shop to repair the power button,

also replaced the battery and volume buttons as well..

time to reset the phone ..

let's hope it can last another 2-3 years ,

the phone 6-years+ old already.

I thought I was already quite steadfast in sticking with my Mate 20X for a long time. It looks like you guys have taken the throne. Salute you guys for sticking with the phone and taking attempts to repair and continue to use the phone until its twilight years. Good for saving the planet!

I hope my Mate 20X will kick the bucket latest by next year so that I can readily switch to the Vivo X90 Pro that's sitting on the shelf for quite some time. I think the Huawei will survive throughout this year.

I just saw that picture and realise it's not the Mate 20X which I own as the sides are curved and it's a smaller phone. Further investigation revealed it's the Mate 20 Pro. Perhaps this is a higher end phone with better performance so you have made attempts to keep it alive and kicking.

I presume there are still few people here using the Huawei mate 20X? I just realise that the Air Selangor app finally can't be used anymore when I tried it this morning. Previously the Air Selangor app can still be opened with the account number published but now it completely can't be logged in anymore even though the app can open. The new app cannot be supported hence can't be downloaded on Google Playstore.

Can Mate 20X users who are still hanging onto the phone confirm that the Air Selangor app can't be logged in anymore? I guess it's time I switch to a new phone that's readily available. Since Air Selangor app can't be accessed anymore, I have to go to the portal to make payments.
