Lulz so riled up. I even suggested few things and how AOD can affect the battery since s7. Oh did i mentioned my bloated battery incident on s7...DURING SLEEP as well? Oh ya... TS also (iinm) have the same issue

Samsung user from S3 and I know the behavior of samsung / android generally.

Lots of ppl have commented the same thing.

What mentality? If u insist to judge that as shows ur mentality then i personally have judge u then lulz. 😉

Rilexlah.. u can discuss how to tweak..it's an open forum..how to turn off this and that (even i suggesting it) ..why my whatsapp drain so many juicr etc...im just saying dont rule of thumb is generally if u can reach 4 hrs SOT. IF AND ONLY IF  ur SOT is around 2 hrs then sometg is wrong w ur phone
Sikit2 nak judge nak marah.

Apooooo
*
If so, then why are you making so much noise? You knew it's an open forum.
We are just trying to figure out what is causing the battery drain issue. 4 hours is your requirement, doesn't mean everyone has the same requirement as you.
Lowyat is a tech forum. If not us, who else want to discuss these?

Its just my general rule of thumb to s10 owners
Not sure why u so butthurt.

So much noise? Feel free to click my profile and check my posts
Definition of so much of noise must be new recently haha
So much noise? I guess i know ur mentality now 😉
*
Oh. So you mean you can give advice and others cannot la? Which made your whole argument more irony in the first place.

The reason I was telling you off is because you are stopping people from discussing about battery. Then you resort to name calling after you couldn't justify why did you do so. What's your intention here actually?

QUOTE(attw @ Mar 15 2019, 08:35 AM)
WiFi off?
*
Last night, I had managed to make the battery drain only 4% overnight with WiFi ON but Aeroplane mode ON (i.e. no mobile network). Before that was ~9%. Need to monitor a few nights.

its not working on mine though... only single tap which wakes the AOD
*
Sure.

QUOTE(starship1 @ Mar 15 2019, 11:22 AM)
Dont know its the right time to say this or not. My 10e just hit 5hr SOT with 9% left on my usage pattern over almost 2 days and night. I am not a hard hitter but moderate user only but i am happy.
My previous note9 maybe around 45min better
*
On mobile network? That's remarkable.

Why some S10s user so kiasu one arr.
battery life not good or long enuff la , exynos not powerful enuff la ,camera low light not bright enuff la

they dont know still that iphone and huawei users are so envious of the S10s
*
IMHO, it's the other way round. I find some S10 users cannot accept criticism about the phone at all, even if it's based on factual finding.

For me, there is nothing wrong at all pointing out the weaknesses. And there is no bad product. Only bad price. IMHO, for the pre-order free gifts factored in, it's a grear deal. And the price we get here is already lower than a lot of places.

But then, no phone is perfect. If users come here to expect all roses, then it's plain wrong.

About iPhone and Huawei....well you do notice there are a few forummers here who have or had a few flagship phones but they are just steady. Didn't dwell with these name calling.

QUOTE(earthdome @ Mar 17 2019, 07:58 PM)
Do you have  bixby voice listening turned on?

It took me close to a week to figure out what is draining the battery especially when phone is idling. If the phone is draining your battery when idling, it will surely drain even more when  not idling. I tried using bixby routine to save battery when sleeping, but still drain 8-12% overnight. Also tried to restrict background activity of few apps with no improvement

Then i tried few other things.
1) Turn off bixby÷ voice listening and any other bixby related features as i dont need thee.
2) Manually turn off wifi + mobile data before sleeping

Doing the 2 above, my battery only drain 2% overnight.  The next day i left the wifi on and switched off mobile data (since my wifi connection sometimes drop). And it drains 3-4% only.

Now my battery has significantly improve. From 5 hours+ to 6.5 hours++ and can even go up to 7.5 hours.

So if you think your battery is not performing, just try whatever you think could save your battery.

QUOTE(earthdome @ Mar 17 2019, 08:11 PM)
Most likely bixby features
*
I think it's not Bixby. It's the Exynos LTE modem.

Mine has no Bixby setup at all and if I enabled Aeroplane mode but with WiFi ON, it's around 4-5% overnight. If both WiFi and mobile network ON, it's 12%.

It's similar when it's in used. When I was outside browsing on LTE network, it used up like 10% of battery for 25mins of SOT. On WiFi, it's almost 50mins of SOT for 10% battery.

Anyway jokes aside, read my reply above. That's my take so far.
I have an S10. LTE: ~4 hours SOT. WiFi: ~8 hours (extrapolated value from SOT/percentage rate because I never really finish the battery purely on WiFi)

QUOTE(Assclown @ Mar 17 2019, 10:55 PM)
This is what I noticed too. It gets really warm while browsing on LTE network and I even thought of switching telco because of this. Is there by any chance you're using Umobile?
*
Celcom here. I didn't notice the temp is high for light browsing.

Not an imagination. S10 series maintains the fast charging speed longer than S8 and S9.

S10 fast charging up to ~82%: https://www.devicespecifications.com/en/edi...eview/d1fc9b/10

S9 fast charging up to ~73% only: https://www.devicespecifications.com/en/edi...eview/b9e76e/11

Samsung made improvement with the S10 battery I guess. They control the charging rate from the phone, not the adapter.

Hehe agreed. DSP in smartphone's SOC is way ahead of camera. Actually Sony is not smart in fully utilize their mobile division's expertise. Imagine DSLR with all these fancy algorithms.

more like sony mobile division is not smart in utilizing their camera division (alpha) expertise. Sony mirrorless and DSLT have one of the best out of camera jpegs in the business

they admit is internal conflict between the 2 divisions just recently

https://www.androidauthority.com/sony-smart...quality-962358/
*
That actually has some truths and logic in that decision. I mean if you are the Alpha division director, you would also afraid non-Professionals slowly ditching DSLR altogether for smartphone if the smartphone can do a lot of things DSLR could. To me, they should have done both ways. If Alpha benefits from incorporating ARM processor inside, it will take them to even greater heights and hence no need to worry about Alpha market got eroded.

Recently try few group photos (normal and not wide angle) as in ~30 ppls but observe both sides distortion/blur quite bad as in the persons face on both corners tends to be more blur but middle part very sharp.

By the way, which is the best size for good image as in 3:4, full screen, 9:16 etc?

Thx
*
You are confused between distortion and blur. Both are not the same thing.
Without looking at the pic, my suspect is it's shoot in f/1.5 which does not have all area lens sharpness.
Not sure you guys are aware or not, most lens actually does not have full sharpness in all area. Normally the middle will be sharp and it will fall off at the side.

You probably can get better SOTs if you restart after charging. Only way to confirm if this bug affects you is to monitor the CPU usage with an app like CPU Spy.

Yes. Something is definitely not right with your whatsapp. Happened to me as well. So i limited the background activity. Notification will still pour in. But use lesser juice.

Didn't know WhatsApp notification still works if limit the background activity. Will try it out!
Having said that, my other recent phones (u can check my signature) didn't have these issue at all, except S8. Lol...

QUOTE(attw @ Mar 22 2019, 08:49 AM)
Haven't received email or SMS
So last night, after my battery was fully charged, I unplugged the phone and restarted it. Then I turned off the data (coz mobile reception in my hotel room was bad but left WiFi on. Lo and behold, this morning battery dropped to 96% after 8 hours compared to double that on previous nights with mobile data and WiFi both switched off. So it seems the bug shared by some forumer earlier is legit. Restart your phone before going to bed makes a difference.

Why, Samsung?
*
The screenshot I showed just now was during day. Overnight, my phone used to drain only 5%. But lately it's coming back to 10%. Not sure what went wrong.

QUOTE(TOMEI-R @ Mar 22 2019, 09:19 AM)
Sorry about that. Go click the 3 dots above, enable show all battery usage and see. I would suspect the main culprit to be android os or playstore.
*
Yesterday was Playstore. I noticed it's very high. Ran 19 hours + at background since 12AM. Means it's running all the time!
I stopped AOD. Cleared Play Store service cache and partition cache. It seems to stop already.

Having said that, my P20 Pro never had this issue.

QUOTE(RoyRF @ Mar 22 2019, 09:30 AM)
last night did a simple observation on my s10+ with my wife's mate 20.. her phone got around 49% battery left, while my phone has 45%.. overnight didn't charge both phones and this morning, saw mate 20's battery still at 49% while mine dropped to 36% (both phones on 4G, on notification, brightness 50%, AOD switched on for S10+)

i guess need to try charge the phone first & restart see what improvement it can make..

Bro, can share how to clear the play store svc cache at which settings?

Also, when you switched off AOD, does the battery life improved better? any other notification app besides always on edge that u are using to know incoming notifications?

Thanks!
*
My battery wasn't that great even before using AOD; slightly below 4 hours SOT max for LTE dual SIM. I enabled AOD with "tap to show". Not even with scheduled viewing. I have now totally disabled that.

I don't know if there's any other way to know incoming notification. It's frustrating.

Based from reviews, battery as follows:
1. S10+
2. S10e
3. S10

If you wanna go for battery, go for s10+ ( i did too, kena racun from the sifus here)

Coming from an s8, i dont feel the s10+ is that big. There's a lot of ways to still get around with one handed use.

But if phone size is really what matters to you, maybe s10 or s10e.
I went to their store several times just to play with it, cuz i was initially dead set on s10.
Glad i went for the plus tho, battery very good for my own usage.

Eh u guys all keep talking about battery life like as though u guys got no charger or powerbank .

Enough with the battery talk. No battery, just charge ur damn phone la.

U not gonna get an oscar for having a phone that last the whole day.
*
I do not carry my charger or power bank with me all the time. As per my previous phones. Might as well use a land phone if need to attach to a power adapter or bank.

For me, it must be able to last at least one office day with ~5 hours of SOT for mobile network. Now my phone is not able to. Yesterday only 1 hour SOT per 50% battery.

I don't see what's wrong with the battery discussion. It's obviously something is not normal with S10 series if so many people been discussing it.

I think the thread starter can make a poll whether we should make a new thread to discuss only battery and power optimization outside this thread...since they are people who cannot take it.

Wah...ur sot 1 hours only? What phone?

Anyway I agree with u bro... Dunno y ppl so easily offended

I don't think so we need a new thread for battery discussion..
*
S10 lol. I think something wasn't right. WhatsApp and Google Play Service (background) usage was very high.
Here are what I did after yesterday's issue:
1) Disabled AOD. Before that was only AOD display on touch.
2) Cleared Google Play Service cache and phone cache partition.
3) Had to reboot toe clear the cache partition. Coincidentally fixed the Exynos unable to deep sleep after charge issue.
4) I put all unused apps to "rare" in Dev options-> Standby Apps.
5) Disabled some apps in Dev options->Background check. Some apps I don't even know what they are doing. So pretty much trial and error here.

Have not tried adhell. Will look into it tonight.

One thing that I think I made a mistake since the beginning is to use Android restore from backup. I did not use smart switch but I restore all the apps from Google backup. Probably that's the culprit.

Today seems to be much better. 40 mins SOT on LTE used 16% of battery. That's like 4 hours for 100% based on extrapolation.
