Currently I'm working in Malaysia for about 1.5 years. I'd like a change of environment to work in Singapore. Is it really hard to get a job in Singapore with such a few years of experience? I am working as a software developer focusing on front-end web app development.

I still see a lot of job posting for software engineers. But whether can find good pay and good story is another story. But even slightly below average offer should be better than pay in Malaysia.

Quite easy to land a job in SG if you don't mind they offer you extremely low salary compare to the market. Just felt that those big boss always like give low wages to freshcomer especially never work in SG before, like around 1.6k > 2.2k for starter. No harm applying as software developer is a big hit in current trend.

It is a huge hassle to hire foreigners for junior positions. There are 10s of thousands of fresh grad in SG without a job. The government is clamping down on hiring foreigners to give locals a higher chance to secure a job.

If a company wants to hire you, they first have to interview over 20 local candidates. They then need to present a report to MOM (Ministry of Manpower) justifying why they want to hire you instead of the locals - pending MOM approval. If a local can do what you do, it is almost guaranteed that the application is rejected.

Even if that is approved, the company will need to go through the hassle to apply a work permit for you (let it be work permit, S-pass or E-pass). These passes are tied to the company. If you try to be 'funny', the company gets penalized.

So, yeah, it is not motivating at all to companies to hire foreigners - especially for junior position.

It's quite motivating to pay a foreigner 2k instead of a Singaporean 4k icon_idea.gif

Sooo back in 2013, they hired cream-of-the-crop, and the competition was very stiff, similar to Dubai.
