TS, great thread for creating awareness on index fund investment.

Did you miss out the two other type of index funds in your recommendation, i.e. world/international and bond ?
*
hehe, kena tangkap basah....

im more to Bogle's original thesis on hooting only SP500 (no international), and national bond

so... for malaysia context

we hoot SP500 (coz KLCI30 is a joke)
for bond, i guess this one open for choices.

I lookup itu Ambank bond fund, yield <4%, better all in FD better.

haha

Then it is index fund investment lo...not true boglehead investment. Although not, it's still good investment strategy.

I came across boglehead investment strategy while searching for the all weather portfolio months back. Frankly I have not started to follow yet because I have other priorities for my fund.
*
hehe, at least got 50% markah =D

come back sometimes to share your financial journey with us. Will addon the bond element when this thread becomes matures a bit...

Don't worry about that.  I am still learning too.

While I may have read about boglehead, I would only choose 2 index types only, USA & EM markets to ensure no overlapping, as international or worldwide fund would already included the USA market in its portfolio. So we just need to ensure these market are really exclusive of one another, just in case either market drop.
*
Gooding. For lazy method, can straight hoot total world index... US + emerging economies semua sapu smile.gif

Hi alexkos,

may i know what do you mean limit buy order?
ya liquidity is one of my concern as well as if u want to sell it and end up no buyers...it will be difficult

in addition, may i know if captrader is nominee account or custodial? if anything happens to captrader, will our money being locked there as well?

Thank you for your advice!
*
Limit buy order means u parking price let's say 240 euro per share. Only lower then they will sell to you. If higher, means no transaction.

Liqudity no prob. Market maker will take your orders.

Custodial I guess. Money is parking at Germany bank, or London. Wait I screenshot captrader punya bank.

If captrader gg, I guess no choice, we gg also?

breaking news. Stashaway can claim back 30% withholding tax. So no need DIY method coz max claim back 15% only.

Note: for StashAway fact check, pls navigate to SA thread. Sifu there can help.

Bye.

update 7 march 2019: now SA folks are unsure if they can fully claim back withholding tax 30%. For confirmation, kindly navigate to SA forum

update#2: SA folks confirm no tax advantage when it comes to withholding tax (for both SA or DIY method).

TQ

OK now I am interested in this. But then again 15% saving on 2% dividend yield, how much capital do we need invested for this to have significant advantage over StashAway?

Also I wanna see got any ways to buy VTWAX here, seems more fun to have exposure to 47 countries in one shot.
*
hmm, if play absolute figure....later i generate it....

we talk relative figure first, i.e., %

correct me if I'm wrong. Actually SA can be used to hoot SXR8 (ireland domiciled SP500). If yes, then you get the withholding tax 15% only, same as DIY method. So this will be a non-issue.

The only advantage for DIY is no platform fee every year. If SA, every year 0.8% donation to platform.

Alex fast ask google:

https://lazybutintelligentinvesting.wordpre...from-singapore/

FTSE All-World UCITS ETF (VWRD) <---ireland domiciled

VWRD fact check
https://americas.vanguard.com/institutional...ssetCode=EQUITY
cost: 0.25% annual fee

CapTrader has access to VWRD no problem. Actually any international broker can do that also. Just CapTrader alex find cheapest (for initial minimum deposit)

Kaya nampak brows.gif

18k per entry. But your SGD should be 6k. brows.gif
*
the 18k is 4k euro...

coz captrader will eat 4 euro per transaction

min 4 euro, or 1 euro per 1k.......

so want maximize saving, then 4k euro lo~

no choice, everyone want to eat =(

if got 18k, then guarantee brokerage fee they eat 0.1% only

How safe are these brokers not located in Malaysia, in case they disappear how do we seek legal help?

I guess that's my main concern so far, not just cost, coz if captrader cabut then GG.
*
ya....captrader say if anything kena, got bla bla bla safety clause with Interactive broker....but no choice if they choose to songlap, our money gg also =(

my fren despite captrader cost advantage, use his international bank (charles schwab) to hoot SXR8.

Result: higher FX + brokerage fee
but every year 0.07% annual fee onward (like me)

i also want cheap, good, safe.... looks like can only compromise =(

Is there a way to have the shares we bought really under our name, like CDS/CDP system, so we are less affected by anything hitting our brokers.
*
Good also, I try explore that.

If really got personal CDS international, then i transfer my SXR8 shares terus (yes captrader allows transfer positions)

ini masa captrader ask alex to bank in (general info)
then need notify another side also (instarem)

when do wiring from instarem to captrader, the latter asks for wiring intention. In other words, you must notify both parties, if not ah, money songlap in between?

So Ramjade is correct. Itu Captrader use IB (see the name Interactive Broker). If captrader gg, maybe can sue IB?

How low will the S&P 500 go? Buffett and Shiller know -  https://on.mktw.net/2sGuaNp

Highlight :
Financial experts predicted next 10 years till 2028, S&P 500 returns projection between +2.6% to -4.1%.

So don't just stick to this one index only.
