QUOTE Intel plans to get rid of quite a few CPUs including X6800, E6600, E6700 and E6300. The customers will get Product discontinuation notice in Q4 and there wont be any of these CPUs in Q1 2008 and on.
Intel will replace this one with X6850 and other X6x50 series as they should benefit from FSB 1333.
Intel will also discontinue E6340 and E6320. Quad core QX6700 is getting discontinued in November this year and the Product discontinuation notice will be sent in September. That is the time fo death of Pentium D 945 as well. LinkIMHO, it's still better to get current cpu due to it's high multiplier, able to clock higher without stressing ram running 1:1 This post has been edited by toughnut: Jun 18 2007, 08:49 AM

the price would probably be the same for old stocks in shops But ultimately the pricing will depend on the price of the replacements.

Looks like the Q6600 is not being discontinued yet. That's my aim!!!! Any reviews on whether FSB1333 will greatly outperform FSB1000? This post has been edited by kmarc: Jun 18 2007, 02:31 PM

Intel just inclease the fsb form 1066 to 1333 and rename to eXX5X series... the rest still same, even Q6600 can oc to archive that FSB

QUOTE(nightzstar @ Jun 18 2007, 03:14 PM) Icic the discontinued ones use same socket with the latest proc eh.. That is good ya, intel want to sell out all old stock proc and sell new series.. it still use same LGA775 socket, form top bottom to top end use LGA775 unless intel officially introduce new socket, but so far current socket able to support current intel proc architecture

for those overclockers then its no point swapping a 1066mhz fsb proc to the new 1333mhz fsb proc...since you area already OC'ing your fsb kao kao...lol I see only only ppl whom run their procs stock will see a benefit.

intel doing the right thing
too many options and choices spoilt the consumer. it also makes it difficult for everyone to decide what is to buy

They will stop production when the planned time come. Intel proccessor has 3 years warranty so stop production won't affect the warranty period, only product (like RAM) has life-time warranty is depended on production viable. Got sale or not depends on shop, it might still around for some time even intel stop producing it until shops clear up their stock. They rather discontinue the product rather than selling it cheap-> quite smart move in term of business wise apart from the technology improvement needed.

well for me im getting the new processor. after ive done the converting (price) after the 22nd july price cut, e6750 should have the same price as e6420. IMO that's a bargain. you get :-
1)faster fsb 2)faster speed
for the sampe prize. plus i'm waiting for g35 chipset as well.

I think the new series is aiming to reduce power consumption. Amd recently released low power consumption CPU. It's all in USA where ppl are now trying to be more GREEN in the environment. It's not just about raw power but rather power and efficiency combined will yield better results.
