I graduated from mmu. While it is not fair for me to comment on uniten, I'd say MMU is a good place to study engineering. Nothing is perfect in this world. What matters more is the student. If you are a good student, it doesn't matter how good or bad the lecturer is, you will still do well and acquire the knowledge.

If you really want to study and learn, I think MMU provides excellent resources for you to further you learning beyond the lectures. MMU has quite a reputation in the industry. Many of my classmates were hired by Intel, as a matter of fact, I used to work for Intel Penang Design Center before I left for better career advancement.

You can have the best lectureres and course, but if you don't want to study, it doesn't amount to anything. It all starts from you....

MMU more major in engineering, from optical to nanotech, which imo is better because it is more specific oriented
Uniten only a few, their electrical is combined with electronic

And somehow MMU has more students, and more publicity on media. I can hardly see Uniten's ads on newspapers sweat.gif

it depends on what course you want to take?what course u want?

u can find out more from LAN website which engineering courses have the most accreditation.
*
i think both are equally accredited by LAN hmm.gif

you sure you want to go so specific on your 1st degree?
when i first took my degree i didnt really know what i wanted to do...just "something mechanical"
i've graduated for a while now...and im still not too sure what i want to specialize in
imho dont specialize too much on your 1st qualification
if you end up liking your specialization, then thats great biggrin.gif
but if u end up no liking what you took, then it will be harder to move into a different field due to your specialization
it happens far more often than u might imagine nod.gif

bring out the statistics, i'm really curious tongue.gif

btw, MMU and UNITEN is totally different. MMU is more to electronics Engineering whereas UNITEN is more to electrical enginnering.
cant really take them to compare. the employment rate in mmu is quite high. i have few of my friend have been taken by MNC in his/her 3rd year studies.

but there is more electronics companies in malaysia than electricals, and most of them is MNC. MMU have a proven track record associating with MNCs. If you are afraid that u cant get job, build up the character. I think choose your field well and research abt the university, c which suit u more.

P/S: if you want to be active in extra activities like clubs, MMU is a better than UNITEN. you will appreciate how little red tape inside MMU management. rclxm9.gif rclxm9.gif cheers

although you took the "specialization" course. the 1 and 1/2 yr course is still basic/fundamental courses for any engineer. you are free to change anytime. you should have sufficient idea on what field you wan to be in in that 1 yr time if you have initiative to know and not just go there and CHILLL for 1 yr. rclxms.gif

based on the current situation, i am inclined to agree about the red tape
uniten has so much red tape
could probably reach the moon (and back) tongue.gif hahaha
mmu is much more student oriented when it comes to extra curricular activities wink.gif

uniten has just got a new vc tho
from what i hear, he is not a fan of red tape rclxms.gif
the guy is very dynamic and is trying to get alot of things changed for the better
the situation should be improving soon biggrin.gif

only the corridors will be full inbetween classes

its this tape...usually made of plastic...and its semi transparent...oh...and its red in color
it has either white stripes on it or some kinda writing along the length of it
its commonly used by the gov or other institutions of power to cordon off areas where the public is not suppose to go
uniten loves to wrap everything in it
u can barely see the object beneath
now that wouldnt be too bad if they had a good labeling system
but even that is kinda on the "havnt these people heard of Artline before?!" level
hahaha....im just kidding about that last part there tongue.gif

thats where the term originated from tho laugh.gif

red tape in this context would mean procedures or paperwork that a person would have to clear before something can get done
for instance, to get an activity approved, somebody has to 1st get the club hosting it to have an official meeting
then minutes have to be submitted to the student council for approval
then the student council returns a letter of approval to the club which then has to forward it to student affairs for approval
the student affairs officer then has to get it cleared by not only his boss but also by finance and by the umbrella division under which the club is registered in the uni
once this is all cleared, the dean and the registra has to clear it
once those two are cleared, the students now have to apply for the finiance of the event from the finance division
finance requires all the previous clearance forms to be submitted as proof along with an itemized costing sheet of all expected expenses for the activity
then once thats cleared finance issues the...cash...not even a check
so now the students have a butt load of cash and they have to go to the bank (which btw the university already has an account at and could just have easily performed a wire transfer) and deposit it

the activity runs

after the activity is complete, there is a whole lot more of reporting and paperwork to send in before the activity can be closed in the books...which i dont even want to bother going into

so THAT, my friend, is what red tape is all about tongue.gif
