As a ex-ford owner, Dct actually requires a slightly diff driving style, and anticipation of 'gearshift lag/jerk effect'. Cuz dct shifts example gear 2-3 usually got a jerking feel like manual shifting. But most cvt/conventional drivers step harder on the gas, which stresses out the dct.

So vw n ford had their fair share of probs. Honda, time will tell. Cvt leadfoot usually one of the reasons for early dct failure.

I don't believe in DCT, its like the worst of both world, either manual or full auto is the best.

hybrid dct is good,

all the things that dct cannot do, is taken care of by electric motor

like creeping in traffic jam and parking

is it as reliable as conventional auto? depends on model but generally no.

Is it expensive to maintain? fluid services are similiar, got cheap got expensive. The expensive wear-and-tear service is clutch replacements, which typical cost thousands.

DCT's achilles heel is low speed high load conditions, eg. pro-longed slow traffic or going uphill slowly. Wet DCTs sort of mitigate this weakness but still not entirely.

They work better at high speed and hard acceleration, ideally coupled with powerful, high torque engines.

Lastly, driving a DCT requires a slightly different driving style to keep it healthy.

in term of reliability.
manual > conventional auto > cvt (not jatco made) > dct (wet clutch) > cvt (jatco made) = dct (dry clutch)

i guess it not going to change anytime soon.

From Pauline Tan

'"Honda claims to have rectified the issue through an extensive two-year testing programme which was conducted in Malaysia. The study led to the strengthening of several components within the dry dual-clutch transmission, giving Honda a good enough reason to finally give the Jazz Hybrid and City Hybrid the green light for Malaysia."

That would mean DCT not suitable for city driving where traffic jam and slow driving is common condition? hmm.gif

Ford Focus with a dry clutch DCT. In 6 years the clutch had to be replaced twice already. It was so bad that thankfully Ford issued an extended warranty up to 10 years to cover this specifically. Car has only done 48,000km.

Friend had an Audi A3 and also had this same problem. Made noise so VW offered him a 70% discount on the repairs and a 2-year extension of the warranty.

Seems like both cars pretty worthless at this point. 2nd hand value in the toilet because of well-known problems with the gearbox.

he meant malaysia honda hybrid like jazz or city currently use DCT, not CVT in sole petrol engine

can elaborate more on the bike accident? is it the nc700? really just lost his life due to dct gearbox jammed/stuck?
