There are many ceratos up for sale on mudah, and quite a number of them under warranty. If i understand correctly, the current cerato is the replacement for the forte.

I think its a good deal considering reviews of how it drives and the design it self.I do see a quite a few of them on the road too. But, kia is notorious for poor service and some users have cited poor reliability.

So, my question is :
Would you guys recommend your kia to anyone, and if not why would you not?

Am driving a 3 year old Kia Rio Sedan.

Previously was using Almera.

And I can say from my experience, I am enjoying my Kia much much more.

Plus not as much problem compared to my Almera which had bearing issues, motor fan kaput, belting, and cooling coil rosak within 3 years.

I believe it's more of brand perception. Undoubtedly spare parts are more expensive too for Korea cars.

I saw a lot second hand kia cerato on mudah too, with competitive price around 60k-65k compared to altis & civic around 80k-90k for 3-4 years old car.

Car looks great from the outside but the interior is a bit ugly.
For kia owners, they have specific outside workshop to service their cars which is much better than official kia workshop

i don't own a kia, but i can't deny that they are really attractive

just take a look at the Picanto and Carnival/Sorento

Picanto is miles ahead in terms of refinement and handling, compared to cars like Myvi/Iriz/Axia and the price is reasonable too as a foreign entry level vehicle

Carnival can rival Alphard/Vellfire at less than 1/2 of the price, Sorento is a full size badass SUV that you can get under rm200k

not a fan of Cerato though, the interior looks fugly due to the curvy center console (very 90s ish) and it isn't the most powerful car in the segment

since forte model, sparepart never been issues. for me cerato hold advance technology compare to competitor. pick 1,6 not 2.0

1.6 come with MPI. similar to toyota altis 2.0.

reliability. mybe owner can advise since this car already 5 years on market.

2.0 pun MPI what. Somemore it is "Nu" engine family, which is newer (more advanced *ahem*) than the 1.6 Thetha II.

I think theta II is 2.0L.

Ya find 1 with Nu engine but i not sure cerato 2.0L comes with Nu or Theta II cuz now they have discontinued it. Old forte 2.0L is Theta II.

Used K3/Cerato is undoubtedly best option out there ...

Rumors like expensive service and easy part broken is pure myth now ... See how many Kia out there in Middle East country being abused daily ...

maybe that new facelift version. from 2013 up before facelift 2.0 use theta engine.

only 1.6 come with gamma with dual cvvt similar tech altis 2.0.

Depend on previous owner driving style, the way previous owner apply DSG also. But usually it is the mechatronic issue in DSG gearbox. If still got warranty can claim, otherwise need to standby RM7000++ for new mecha unit ahaha

Dunno why people still worried about kolian car spare parts availability. I mean if the model really is rare like genesis (if sold locally) or really old model then I would understand.

My so-called low volume elantra HD still can find spare parts without any problem at all. just drive to foreman, he calls the supplier, and there comes the parts.

Most cars now share same parts across models of same parentage. Like in this case hyundai/kia, elantra HD shares a lot of parts with forte.

My Rio Sedan is till under warranty, so far touch wood haven't claim anything yet, so can't comment of spare parts.

Service cost wise I would say it comparable with Nissan service.

sparepart should be easy to get nowdays. i can see a lot of k3 on road. price it depend. if go to SC, any brand also cost bomb.

choose wise. car is not for investment. if you like, just go for it.

aftersales, i think there a lot of korea shop outside if you dont want to go SC.

i bought a used cerato last year, still under warranty. no issue, car in good conditon, full service record. low mileage..enjoying the ride. so far no issue..had a good experience servicing the car at SC.

it's just that service is according to schedule in the book. for low mileage car like mine, although the mileage is only 50k but needs to service at 80k according the book..

other than that is ok

So far none. But i do alot of preventive maintenance.

Common issues for K5 (2012-2016) is the aircon blowing hot air and steering rack (wear & tear).
Both issues easy fix.

Regular service around RM280 (Liquimoly full synthetic 5-30 with filter). Of cos if you buy your own engine oil it'll be cheaper.
Air con issue fix about RM 250 (flushing). Some users changed whole set (compressor, condenser etc) about RM 2k.
Steering rack i just changed mine (9yrs old) at RM 1.6k ori Kia (not OEM).
Major parts like absorbers, bushings, stabilizer links, brake pads, steering rack etc got alot of OEM Korea brands on shopee (around 40-50% cheaper than ori Kia brand).

Can join the k3 or k5 group. They share alot of info even which workshops for which state.

If you are getting the KIA used, it is well worth the value.
Compare against cars of similar year and specs you will see you get all the ticks.
A 2014 KIA RIO at RM30K comes with all the bells and whistle, it amazes me a car that period has most of the features you can only find in today's car as standard offerings.
Go compare any other at the year and budget.
If you scrutinize more into the build process of a KIA, you will be surprised at the quality. For instance, they use a adaptor plug for wiring between the door and the body, unlike most cars with a tube and continuous wiring.
The turn signal control are on left side, designed like continentals for europe market. The carpet and linings are think, not like paper thin jappos.
KIA Engine performance is torguey. Fuel consumption is average, drinks if you are heavy on the foot nut provides the power.
Overall KIA is great value for used car. I wouldn't worry too much about maintenance, most mechanics are able to work on the tech.

Where did you get ori steering rack for 1.6? Even for forte is around 3k

Malaysian rather believe China car than Korean car.

Meanwhile Hyundai / Kia global sales are great.

Chery, Great Wall, Changan, Haval etc didn’t gain all that much traction in Malaysia.

Uhhh and neither did Borgward.

My regular workshop source for me. Shopee selling 1.55k for Ori Kia part. Forte parts seems to be on the higher side or equal to K5.

Drive a Forte for 9 years, can say the car Quality is superb, no issue thru out the years, the rubber quality still strong...
However there are downside with Kia in Malaysia, such as Kia Naza has cause closure of Kia shop in Malaysia... until now, no new cerato in sight.
Other issue for kia is the service is expensive... old kia no spare part, kia maintainace very expensive everything cost RM1k... aircon...etc

I own a KIA Cerato 1.6 2014. The car looks good, is comfortable, build quality and safety is way ahead of Japs in the same class, the most reliable car I have owned so far. Almost 9 years old now, plan to use it for 15 years if possible. Next car will definitely be a KIA or a Hyundai due to the value proposition, reliability and cheap maintenance.
The unfortunate thing is the KIA red cube at my area shut down so now have to service at outside.

Ditto on this. If can I'll want the cbu k5. Apparently our kia ceratos are cbu units hence the good quality

Best thing about Forte and Cerato is you can easily find spare parts from China, as these two models are also sold in China. I remember when my power folding side mirror spoilt, local workshop quoted me RM1k for original replacement, I managed to get it from Taobao for less than RM200 including shipping, plus it is the same color as my car so I don't need to repaint it, and it is still working fine after more than 5 yrs.

Was using 2nd hand Hyundai Elantra MD since 2015 until last year, the maintenance isn't as scary as sushi fans imagine. 1 year allocate RM1k for service + maintenance/parts change is more than enough (2 times service + one part change). I reckon Cerato would be similar as well.

Best part about it is the low RV mean the money you saved as compared to buying a second hand Civic/Altis is more than enough to pay for the maintenance.

Now I am driving a 2018 Mazda 6 pre facelift version with GVC, surprisingly the 2nd hand price is very low as well for the 2.0 variant. Problem is it's very rare.

Korean cars mostly based on outdated Japanese tech from 1-2 generations ago. So, reliability is better than European marques.

I know for a fact you a bullshitting when I was shopping for cars that time kia cerato priced in 98k had push to start where as the Toyotas I test drove that year still were using key ignition.

Then came the multiple functions of the driver seat.

For KIA and Hyundai not much difference whether CBU or CKD as the knock-down level is minimal. Assembly process is also minimal due to minimal knock-down. However, there will be some trim level differences due to CBU and CKD having different specifications like the player screen. KIA & Hyundai low volume sales so cannot do extensive knock-down like Toyota & Honda. For example many parts for Toyota are sourced locally or from Indo/Thai. Quality so-so only. KIA/Hyundai most parts are made in Korea to the same specs as the cars sold in Korea and globally.

Vios and City are good examples of cars designed for 3rd world countries. The parts are all sourced from the 3rd world also (MY/ID/TH) to meet 3rd world safety standards (AseanShitCAP) and quality level. Not comparable to cars made for developed countries with stringent safety requirements like EURO NCAP. But Malaysians only care about RV, mati tak apa asalkan tak rugi.

Planning to sell off my 2018 honda jazz for 2013/14 cerato to reduce my monthly commitment. not sure is a good choice or not despite it is an upgrade compare to Jazz. FC is my concern only as im an ex owner of 2013 Forte 1.6 and quite regret for selling it for Jazz and ingat the maintenance fees will be cheaper in Honda SC! My Jazz service cost is sometime higher than Forte in SC.
