Hi LYN members,

Any of you installed the ceiling mounted - HOUM Super Dryer or the manual pulley type?

HOUM Super Dryer – Cost about RM2100 installed HOUM Super Dryer

LG Global Clothes Hanger – Cost About RM350-400 installed. Pulley Clothes Hanger

Question:
1) Is Houm Super Dryer worth the extra money in the long run?
2) Can the manual pulley type last long / is it reliable (say more than 5 years without problem)?
3) Will the pulley type be difficult to operate by my wife if it is full load (heavier load = harder to turn the pulley?)

Appreciate if anyone here installed any of those ceiling mounted hangers to give some feedback.

TIA!

Better to get the supplier to install.

In Singapore the equivalent model is Steigen Exalt Solar. There is a mini for tight fitting dry area. The high end one is Exalt Solar Ultra with up to 45kg load supported, anti dust mites protection feature and ionizer to eliminate odour.

Google for reviews of those though. Similar product but don't know if it's a common supplier.

At least over the causeway, Steigen touts testing it so that implies reliability engineering QA. All Exalt Solar models have obstruction detection feature.

Because I live with folks that can be tech challenged, I use LG Global 8' length x5 rods that can take 5x8kg loads of laundry bought in USJ9.

It's wall mounted and purposely anchored high. We use a laundry hanging hook attached to a broom or mop stick at the threaded end. Clothes are hung with hangers. Towels via telescopic towel hangers from Mr DIY or Giken brand (90cm). The laundry hanging hook is found widely in SG..a friend showed how it's used so I bought 3 of them.

Bedsheets no choice have to use heavy stool or step ladder to hang. Pillow case and bolster cases can use towel hangers.

If you have the WM space, there is no problem with dryer space. Or even a combo if haven’t brought 1.

Operating cost it very low with condenser type. Cannot see a scratch in my bill.

I won’t pay this hanger for over a RM1k. RM2k is cut throat with this low tech.

There are other options for ceiling mounted that doesn't cost a bomb. Those are found in SG. Simple pulley from 2-5 rods system but it all depends on available space in the ceiling. I've covered it before here. Like this one with more dimension details on the same here.

Alternatively, KS Auto System sells this one which can be tucked away when not in use.

Or this Australian made Ez Hi-Dry system. The pictures of the various installation shows one installed on the ceiling of an AC ledge. The one without the swivel option might suit your need but you have to see if it's wider than 40cm.

I use LG Global 8'x5 rod system as there is a wall but I hang my clothes indoor. There is an air vent over my drying area which is hooked to an extractor fan in a powder/laundry room next to it.

These option is for your consideration where space is premium. Over here, it's either Hotata or their equivalent 2 rod pulley which to me is limited unless user is the sole occupant or baru kahwin with no children. When the kids come into the picture, 2 rods will be easily overwhelmed. The price will pay for itself with greater utility rate down the road when the family expands.

The Ezzi Living multi rod pulley version has more features vs KS Auto and Klassico. All this was introduced by friends living down south. So I learn from them and adapt what I can for my context.

BTW, these should be easy for a contractor to install as it's just measure and install. If you're considering these, talk to them and negotiate for cheaper as they won't be installing. They may say warranty void as it's not in SG if you're ok....as these are just rods and pulley. Before I settled on the LG Global 8'x5 due to the availability of a wall for my drying area, I did consider the 5 rod pulley system and even factored paying the installer to come up to do so. However I already had the plaster ceiling done and home minister was reluctant to redo. Thus, we settled on the LG Global 8'x5 rods system.

You have to be aware of the dimensions....you mention 40cm, a bit narrow at first glance. The product mounting width is one thing. Where the rods suspend from its mounting point could be wider or same width....have to take those into consideration...when it's wound down etc will it be obstructed by whatever that cause it to be only 40cm etc.

i think u misunderstood.. haha..

the 40cm is referring to the wall behind my door, after i open the door..

with HOUM installed at the ceiling, total length space i have is about 180cm, and this machine length is 132cm, but the rod can be extended to 232cm.

after hanging clothes, i can just put the rod back up near the ceiling, so it wont really disturb anything else..

Oh sorry, ok it wasn't made clear initially. Anyhow, sometimes that's easily esolved with a bifold door that folds the other side from the original door as long as the rods clears it when extended. But not an issue since the ceiling mount also can.

Any review about the product? How do you think so far? Is it really use lesser electricity than standard dryer?

On average, how long does it take to for the clothes to be completely dry?

Thanks.

well it turned out that my space cant fit the Houm Super Dryer. So i just requested for refund last weekend. there is a manhole in the ceiling which limits the space I can install the dryer..

So now, i dont know what I should use. I really want the Houm Super Dryer. I hv the option to install the manual pulley type, but because that one I need to be 100% sure that it can fit, before I buy. So I have not bought it yet.

Ohh nooo. Sorry to hear that mate. I am currently looking into Houm Super Dryer and Steigen (from Singapore) but couldn't find much review about these products. I tried to feel the heat from Houm but it didn't feel too strong/hot. Maybe it needs some time to heat up as the brochure stated that it could go up to 40 degree celsius.

May I know which shop you bought it from? I found one in Jalan Ipoh area at RM2388

Sorry to hear. What if you peep through the manhole to see if there is any space that can be reclaimed and modify the plaster ceiling accordingly.

At least in SG, there would be a site visit to inspect for suitability first before buying. Their vendors would advise accordingly.

I was looking at this for my new house. Haven't decided if I need it as my washing area/yard will have enough sunlight in covered space to dry naturally ... Not to mention we have 2 sets of washing machines and dryers!

Houm is a market leader. It claims to save up to 70% electricity bill. But if you turn on the heater all the time then may be not so much. This is for people that prefers to dry their clothings naturally. Price is not cheap as you can get a decent dryer with that price.

There is another China brand called Precious Lady. Specs wise is quite good and sales pitch is impressive. However I checked their FB and there was a negative customer complaint. However they have much cheaper model without heating element and with mechanical lever to move the rack up and down. They are probably in Homedec in April

Well, the installer said can install like a steel bracket, but then it will affect opening my door. To fix this problem, I will have to change my door to a sliding foldable type which might cost me around rm800 to replace the door... haha..

Steel bracket means wall mounted and suspend it from the cantilevered pole jutting out? That solution is meant for plenty of wall but ceiling unable to take the load e.g.landed properties.

Yes, changing to inward folding bifold doors should overcome the issue.

But just curious, what's above the space covered by the manhole? Does waste piping crisscross the ceiling such that it hinders installing the Houm up there?

My space is about 180cm, bcos of the manhole, it reduced to probably 130cm, and towards nearer to the door opening position.

Thks for sharing. On paper, it looks like it's possible to tumpang the AC ledge 80cm with the 1280cm from the laundry area except that you've to be careful about the beam dividing the two areas which can do serious damage to the rods. Means when extended, the laundry rack cannot be retracted all the way up.

This works so long as:
1. No plumbing along the place where Houm will be mounted under the ceiling in the form of drain waste pipes or embedded water supply line or city gas line (if applicable)
2. the kitchen-laundry yard door is changed to inward folding bifold
3. No door to the AC ledge
4. Height of AC ledge access is e.g. least 7.5ft or can be made to accommodate 8.5ft or below the beam. (Subject to Building engineering approval)
5. Width of ceiling suspended rack such that the bed linen / blanket rod can be pulled out without obstruction ( can fit within 62cm width)
6. No AC compressor blocking when entering the AC ledge

Purely looking at the paper, it will avail 128+15+80cm by 62cm (LxW).

really appreciate ur thought. but for me, going to the A/C ledge also not possible bcos i closed it off (my house nearby highway, so its quite noisy).

so i think option 2 possible. but need to change door... cry.gif

What's the point of the super dryer when it is more expensive than a dryer.

Look at TS 1st post. It looks like a place to hang clothes and a hair dryer pointing to it to dry the clothes.

Besides the cost of acquiring, the "super dryer" won't be prone to spoiling and clogging the way condensing and heat pump dryers are prone to. And users will only resort to the hair dryer only when needed. I once considered them (dryers) but now having read posts on them, I wonder if those are truly worth the dime spent on them. The exception would be vented dryers.

But if it were me, I would enclose the drying area from dust esp if a highway is nearby.

Dryers would be an appliance of last resort for some and that will be true where air dry space is lacking.

But consider the value proposition of the hanging rod dryer....4 rods of extensible length with one for comforter or duvet, motorised lifting, meant to substitute ceiling lighting in the drying area as that's where it will draw power from, remote control and optionally configured with UV and timed heater fan. The one sold here is only one such model with those options added except UV. There are others without UV or without fan. So long as space is available, there's a market for this.

the effect of Super Dryer is different compared to using normal dryer. your clothes wont wrinkle as much and the effect is like air dry.

manufacturer claims the usage of electricity is also much lower la. so i guess those are a few advantages.

Sorry for raising an old thread but anyone has any experience with buying the Mr Bond automatic drying system direct from China and then installing it in your house? Is it dangerous in terms of electricity etc?

Frm what I know China is 220v and Malaysia is using 240V but usually the small electric appliance we use like no prob, but nt very sure if it will be a prob for such a large appliance... Reason am looking frm taobao is because the price like so much cheaper than wht i see locally so am thinking if can just order direct sweat.gif

Hi guys, sorry for necro-ing old thread. Was at Bukit Jalil Home Expo today and saw this Precious Lady ceiling mounted drying rack, and keen to buy one.

Wanna ask anyone got experience with this brand before? Is the pricing worth it for this specs;
- Manual pulley system (Tri Bar)
- 2.0m (6' 8")
-aluminium alloy (scratch-resistent apparently)
- 50KG max load
- Expo offer comes with 2+1 years of warranty, free 10x stainless steel hanger (worth RM8 each) and 1x stainless steel 20-clips hanger, free installation (worth RM100)
- for RM638

Worth it ah? The seller mentioned if non-expo will be just 2 years and lesser freebies + need to pay for installation. Tomorrow last day haha hopefully got ppl reply icon_question.gif

Dont have to rush to make a decision. Expo will come back again.

Better to pay slightly expensive and is useable than to buy cheap and regret.

Show photo of your drying area. Maybe can offer other solution or product.

Does it comes with warranty ?

The only problem is the quality of the rope that lift the hanger. If it breaks, can you diy or have to call for service.?

I have few indoor and outdoor blinds and after sometime, the rope tend to break due to wear and tear. Most of it I will leave it at a permanent position except for two units
