Most people in MY have not even seen a Q9FN because there are very limited numbers of them for display in MY .
You can call Samsung MY right now and ask them how many Q9FN they have sold in MY last year , if they are willing to answer you that is .
Reason for the poor sales beside the absurd pricing ? It is not exactly a very family friendly TV .
It is a mini light canon. Put this TV in a dim room , you have to watch out when firing it up on full-field white screen . Else it will make you temporarily snow blind for a bit .
For the typical family , this can be worse as the extreme brightness may cause detrimental effects to elderly / kids in the long run.
You can turn down the brightness settings but that is going to destroy the purposes of getting such a fantastic HDR TV to begin with.
With that being said , the TV is a revolutionary display when it comes to HDR , the colors and the brighter end of the spectrum look astonishing thanks to the massive dynamic range capabilities and quantum dot filters . I would go as bold as to say it is probably the best HDR TV in MY as of this moment since we don't exactly get many other choices here.
It is depressing as you can tell many in Lowyat forum/internet are only obsessed about the burn-in issues when never actually owning these TVs . The OLED has so much more to offer than that .
Burn Ins have already been happening on self emissive displays since the Plasma Era . They are not exactly new . If you have ever had a plasma and you didn't have any problems , chance is you are not going to see it .
The test conducted by rting is circumstantial at best . They are exploiting , torturing the TV by leaving it on 20 hours a day and forcing watermarked content on the TV all year long . Yet , whenever someone is asking , you will most definitely see replies of links to the rting videos . This issue by itself , has already been blown out of proportion.
Not to mention , the LG OLEDs have a cropping function which you can use to crop the screen away from those pesky watermarks / logos . Only people who actually owned , seen and used these TV know about this . While it is by no means , a practical solution as zooming into the screen may cause blurriness from resolution downgrade . But if you are watching Astro , what blurriness we are talking about here ?
The elderly , the children love the perceived contrast and natural colors from an OLED screen , resembling a portal to another dimension in a dark room , a floating 3D illusion when the bezel blends into the background .
Personally I am a huge fan of both display . In your situation ,Q9FN is the more reasonable buy as it is fantastic performer in a bright room . However if the primary audience is your father who is retired by now , he will love the OLEDs . Perhaps you can get an extended 5 years warranty from your retailers and teach your father how to "crop " the screen while watching the stubborn watermarked shows .
