Most people in MY have not even seen a Q9FN because there are very limited numbers of them for display in MY .
You can call Samsung MY right now and ask them how many Q9FN they have sold in MY last year , if they are willing to answer you that is .

Reason for the poor sales beside the absurd pricing ? It is not exactly a very family friendly TV .
It is a mini light canon. Put this TV in a dim room , you have to watch out when firing it up on full-field white screen . Else it will make you temporarily snow blind for a bit .

For the typical family , this can be worse as the extreme brightness may cause detrimental effects to elderly / kids in the long run.
You can turn down the brightness settings but that is going to destroy the purposes of getting such a fantastic HDR TV to begin with.

With that being said , the TV is a revolutionary display when it comes to HDR , the colors and the brighter end of the spectrum look astonishing thanks to the massive dynamic range capabilities and quantum dot filters . I would go as bold as to say it is probably the best HDR TV in MY as of this moment since we don't exactly get many other choices here.

It is depressing as you can tell many in Lowyat forum/internet are only obsessed about the burn-in issues when never actually owning these TVs . The OLED has so much more to offer than that .
Burn Ins have already been happening on self emissive displays since the Plasma Era . They are not exactly new . If you have ever had a plasma and you didn't have any problems , chance is you are not going to see it .

The test conducted by rting is circumstantial at best . They are exploiting , torturing the TV by leaving it on 20 hours a day and forcing watermarked content on the TV all year long . Yet , whenever someone is asking , you will most definitely see replies of links to the rting videos . This issue by itself , has already been blown out of proportion.

Not to mention , the LG OLEDs have a cropping function which you can use to crop the screen away from those pesky watermarks / logos . Only people who actually owned , seen and used these TV know about this . While it is by no means , a practical solution as zooming into the screen may cause blurriness from resolution downgrade . But if you are watching Astro , what blurriness we are talking about here ?

The elderly , the children love the perceived contrast and natural colors from an OLED screen , resembling a portal to another dimension in a dark room , a floating 3D illusion when the bezel blends into the background .

Personally I am a huge fan of both display . In your situation ,Q9FN is the more reasonable buy as it is fantastic performer in a bright room . However if the primary audience is your father who is retired by now , he will love the OLEDs . Perhaps you can get an extended 5 years warranty from your retailers and teach your father how to "crop " the screen while watching the stubborn watermarked shows .

My major concern was the burn in issue . But I’ve read someone advice in another thread , saying that life is too short to worry too much about everything . LG is not stupid to let these issues affect their competition with QLED, since OLED is LG only contender against Samsung . Definitely they would have done something to prevent it , or at least slow down the process of burn in , slow enough for me to finally look for an upgrade , when Micro LED hits the market . 5 years is a good number for me

To be honest , in their defence , RTING test is not exaggerated . For LG specifically , they actually have a micro timer to program it on for 4 hours , then off for 4 hours , let the LG BUILT IN PIXEL REFRESHER kicks in , then on again for 4 hours . Continuously for months . Test was done on 8 TVs each permanently on diff channels . I particulatly interested in the one with CNN ( like ASTRO logo )

4 hours+ watching on a channel with permanent logo , that’s sounds very familiar with my dad watching Astro most of the time of his day , everyday. So the test is very legit for me

*
The rtings test were conducted by setting the OLED TVs on maximum brightness , we don't do that for SDR channel like Astro . Most of the time setting the brightness will be adjusted to around 40 ~ 60 .
And brightness makes a huge difference when it comes to wearing out the organic pixel lifespan .

The TV also has built in measurement to mitigate some of the risk , such as pixel shifting and logo dimming algorithm . The individual subpixels has also been renewed several times throughout the last several years .

I am not saying burn in will never happen . If you are watching the same channel , consistently over many years it is bound to happen someday.
The best way is still to adjust the zoom - in settings to crop the logo out of the screen .

If you are only going to watch the same channel , it is unlikely for you to notice the burnt mark unless you are running test patterns on it since the same logo is going to be on display at the exact same position .

did more reading on the burn in for oled. it's bad. one guy used for a week and there was the burn in

Most people on the internet knows nothing about TVs in general . Not to mention OLED TVs are pricey , people get bitter about things they can't afford , especially a certain trolling youtube channel that starts with "Q" .

QUOTE(Avangelice @ Mar 30 2019, 01:09 PM)
nah man I don't wanna baby shit the TV when I paid nearly 10k for it. I think I'll just sit this one out till 2019 line comes out and maybe see it drop price.

also won't be buying 8k versions. it's a waste of pixels
*
It isn't about babysitting them , it is about respecting and understanding the technology . I am not dusting my TV and changing its diaper every 3 hours . I am simply more selective in what I am watching and be more aware of channels that have stubborn logos .

You are paying the premium price for the picture quality , not for the convenience of taking a call and went outside to talk for 3 hours while leaving the TV on the brightest screen ( which you really shouldn't be doing even to your LCD panels )

The OLED screens have brought us exceptional picture quality for the past few years . Sure it isn't perfect and it is not without caveats but that is what the trend is moving onto . Just look at these OLED screens we have on the premium phones thesedays and they are much more susceptible to burn in than TV because of the static UI.

You are not wrong to be concerned of the issue . However if you are buying TVs just to abuse them like rtings did on their experiment , maybe you should just get a cheap screen and forget about the OLEDs .

fun fact : Do you know that typical LCD TVs with LED backlights can get burn-ins too if you abuse them long enough ? It is just the chance is extremely rare but the risk is still there.

bro you are talking about quantum right? do please elaborate. because of his videos I am leaning towards Qled

He is pretty much the biggest laughing stock in the AV community , fact that he is constantly calling out review sites like rtings and professional calibrators like Vincent T and AVSforum editors , is an insult to every AV enthusiast out there .

He has been banned in most of the AV forums , the only active followers he still has are those as bitter as him and has a desperate hate for premium TVs.

It has been a long while since I paid any attention to him , but IIRC the most ridiculous moment is when he claimed to be " professional calibrator " and was sponsored by TV brands , there was a Samsung PR show up quickly to clarify they have never even heard of him , he had since then removed that particular video altogether . His YT channel has also been banned and taken down by Youtube several times due to excessive reports .

As usual , we recommend not to feed the troll . The only attention he will get are those who are in the same boat as him .

If you browse through his content , almost every one of them is aim to attack someone else who is much bigger or a respectable , famous figure in the industry to stir up more drama . What a clown .

Not 30k , 60k .

the 30k one is Flagship 75 " 4k Q90R , The 75 " 8k Q900R is retailing for RM59,999 .

There is also a 82 " but the price is probably getting close to 6 digits .

MicroLED should be coming out next year, hope that can solve the burn-in problems.
*
What are you talking about ?

MicroLED has already been " OUT " , for while .

All you need to do is make a call to Samsung now , they will divert you to their Luxury Sales PR department .
They will send a team to inspect your living room the next day and start assembling your unit in Paju .

The price is ranging from 0.5 - 2 millions MYR including Installation and other maintenance fees .

Samsung's focus is on Quantum Dots Blue OLEDs next year .

And if you are expecting MicroLED to become commonly buyable next year, think again.

Last time I checked , there have only been 2 person who ever made such orders from Samsung MY .

Lemme know if you want to become the 3rd one .

There is a newer version of backlight coming out next year according to FOMO that will help drive microled tv cost down.
*
Yea right , because FOMO is an absolutely credible source . Oh wait Sony is not yet bankrupt while he is still making videos thumbup.gif .

Cheaper or not it is still going to be 6 figures .

Also , you are talking to someone who deal in the business and actually know the basic cost of manufacturing a self emissive panel .

An asking price for a OLED 65 " is 500 usd .

Micro-OLED is at least 100 times of that last time I check .

And thank you for linking me news , but you are at least 6 months late :

QUOTE
According to a new report from Korea, Samsung Electronics canceled its plans to release these smaller microLED TVs, as the company could not reduce prices enough and the asking price for a 77" microLED would not be attractive to customers.

Instead of the smaller-sized options, Samsung will focus on larger models - 88-inch, 101-inch and 114-inch. All these TVs will be based on an LTPS panel, and not on PCB like Samsung's current microLEDs. According to the report, the company is looking to source the TFT backplane from either Samsung Display or AU Optronics.

Last but not least , LTPS is not backlight ... sweat.gif
