OT a bit. Used to be a Transformers collector in my younger years, but somehow lost touch over time lah....

Was at a shop @ Sri Petaling the other day, and saw some really cool TF called Alternators. Read about it in the Star, found out that it was actually a collaboration between Takara and Hasbro when they reverted to vehicle-to-robot formats. Just wanted to know;

1. How many are there in the series total?
2. Is there an official website?

hey there! another fan of the Alternators here then!

anyway, just wanted to inform you that Binaltechs are definitely more expensive but i think it's only around RM150 - RM160, except for the hot ones like Smokescreen which may be more expensive. As for Alternators, retail price is RM99, and I've bought mine from a couple of shops namely;

Glory System Enterprise - Sri Petaling - quite a nice range, i think they have Rollbar, Sunstreaker, Siverstreak, Jazz, Tracks, Ricochet...

Ultimate Toys - One Utama (New Wing) - limited range - Rollbar, Rumble, Swindle...

You checked out the store in TS? Mind telling me what do they have over there? Thanks!

checked it out yesterday - Time Machine's store only have Ravage and Ricochet lah boss, i'm looking for Hasbro's Alternators as the Takara/Japanese ones are damn expensive! Esp Binaltech which retails at RM230!

whoa! means you have ALL the rest??!! cool....I currently ONLY have OP, Silverstreak, Sunstreaker, Ravage, Rumble, Tracks, Rollbar, Ricochet and Jazz...

can't find Mirage anywhere man, but you may get Rumble at UToys One Utama, the guy there say he may have it stashed somewhere. refer to either Kevin/Andy, and maybe he'll get you sorted.

as for Time Machine, they do sell Alternators but ONLY Ravage and Ricochet...

The movie? Saw it over the weekend, and must say not up to my expectations. But then again, I grew up with the colourful G1s, so maybe robots with really really 'robotic' faces didn't really go down well with me. The closest thing to G1 in the movie is Prime itself, and having Cullen back as the voice is a very very SMART move by Hasbro, if such sources are correct.

Character development was almost zilch for most of the Transformers, but Megatron's contempt for StarScream does remind me of G1, which was quite refreshing.

One question though, can anyone tell me why the raw power of the Cube automatically transforms into 'bad' robots? like the HP, vending machine, etc.
Didn't really get that?

And TF2? definitely. anyone noticed StarScream leaving Earth at the credits?

Anyway, seems that most restocks now are from Takara, not the Hasbro ones. And looks like a wee bit more expensive as well....esp those from the Specialty Toy stores...

anyway, went to the same store yesterday, and got myself Swindle and Sideswipe....and the stocks are depleting fast! wonder if it's us....

Tracks is cool! quite hard to transform esp the front of the car though. from what i remember, stocks are damn low already, i think left Rollbar, Tracks and Ricochet....

Actually, Rollbar robot form is quite cun....

who? Rollbar? hahahaha maybe but his overall form is quite nice. i like the detail of his head the best though.

talk about short legs, i think Ricochet is pretty short though, the tallest one so far is still Rollbar, but then again I only have 6/7 of them...

yea man how about any other places that has Alternators?

but did manage to get some beauties when I first started, namely Optimus Prime, Jazz, Sideswipe....

just a nod in agreement on the Jazz/Meister, i too had some problems when transforming the vehicle, doors, hand, hood all came off! and you're right about the colour as well, two shades of white!

glad to see another Alt fan here, and your room is awesome man! sort of inspire me how to pose my Alternators as well. i'm up to only 11 thus far, very hard to look for the rest in KL. most specialty toy shops only have Ravage left. any ideas/tips? thanks!

Yellow - Sunstreak? I thought this was an Autobot! and he was called Sunstreaker lah....

btw, for those with Astro, check out CH 4 on Mondays, the old TF is up for reruns there. caught one yest night....anyone remember the Triple Changers? aka Astrotrain and Bliztwing? classic man!

and there were 2 more jets as well, one red and one white. one of them is called Ramjet i think....

hey man looks like you're looking for Alternators, of which I'm a big fan too! you have to differentiate the car into either;

Binaltech - Diecast metal made and imported from Japan/China (Takara) - RM200+ RRP
Alternators - Plastic made and imported from US (Hasbro) - RM99.90 RRP

the one you're searching for is actually very very limited, even I myself am looking for a reasonably priced one. currently, in KL area, specialty toy shops only have the Binaltech version for sale at very very high prices, i've seen opening prices at RM300+, RM400+, RM500+ and even RM600+. the prices are dependent on the limitedness of models, as Takara came out with 2 versions (as far as i know) and they are differentiated by the numbers on the car door. i have seen no 7 and 8 thus far. these are actually year versions of the WRC Subaru car, eg 2003, 2004, etc.

as for the Alternator version - long gone already man...

eh nobody bought the 2 versions of OP ah? the twin pack of OP from 1984 and OP from 2007 one leh....saw that they were selling when TFTM toys first came out....
