Hmm, it appears that TM Unifi now deploys fibre FTTH to high rise buildings that uses VDSL copper? These photos are taken at one of my friend's condo unit. The condo is located in Setapak, Kuala Lumpur.

The fibre cable is obviously laid like this, which is kinda eyesore la tbh... The condo doesn't have fibre infrastructure, so they had to lay the cable into condo unit like this. Similar like TIME Fibre.

New TM Unifi ONU fibre modem? It's not the Huawei anymore...

FiberHome brand... I never hear before. As what I know, even Maxis Fibre and TIME Fibre don't supply this fibre modem brand to its customers... hmm.gif

Let me remind again, these photos are taken in a condominium and not landed house, where all this while, many would never thought that TM would deploy FTTH to high rise buildings someday and stuck in copper cable forever.

The fibre cable comes from the ceiling of the corridor (walkway), and then ends at the MDF room.
As I walk around the corridor in the same floor, apparently only my friend's unit and a very few other units can be seen that the fibre cable is laid into units like this.
Maybe they would only come and lay fibre cable for new installations or customers who upgrades to Unifi's higher speed package?

I contacted TM via live chat and ask, they say the condo is using the combination of both copper and fibre, and the max speed for high rise building is basically still 30Mbps. shakehead.gif
Then I was like, if it's only 30Mbps, then what's the point of them installing fibre at the first place? dry.gif
Since it's already using fibre cable, why not offer much higher speeds that VDSL copper can't provide, such as 300Mbps and above? shakehead.gif

if ftth in condo, can support up to 800mbps, nowsday new condo all run FTTH edi
*

Did you mean, as long the high rise building is newly built or built today, TM has stopped laying copper telephone lines into the building, and uses 100% fibre on that building?
Or it still has to depend on location, like whether fibre is available in the area or not?

No that condo is not new... It's about 7-8 years already. All along it was VDSL copper.
Yes I know fibre can support even to Gbps speeds in the future. But the thing is, TM still say that customers in this condo can subscribe to max 30Mbps. It doesn't make sense at all.
When I asked them in live chat on why is this the case, they simply brushed me off by replying "We don't have the detail about it"
and never bother to ask any relevant departments for answers or other colleagues that might be familiar about it. How professional. rclxms.gif
Their customer service is really good in replying questions. So I reply to them "Thank you, your information is very helpful."

guys can i terminate my Unifi Advance 30Mbps rm179 by just walking in to TMPoint and bringing the modem?

this 30 day notice thing is really stupid
*

You got to give them 30 days advance notice if you want to terminate the service, or else I don't think they'll let you cancel right away.
Why you wanna terminate? Too expensive, or what? Or perhaps you might wanna consider the new 30Mbps RM89/month (unlimited quota) package?
Contact TM for more info. Or have a live chat with them here: https://unifi.com.my/campaign/chat/unifichat.html
Select "Chat with our agent".

Guys. Please congratulate me.

After 7 years of waiting, today TM come to install this box infront of my house.

Please, congratulate me again. Finally I can feel proud living in Malaysia.
*

Congratulations to you for able to enjoy high speed fibre Internet now. Don't forget to say thanks to our communications minister, Gobind. Without him, you're probably won't even see this box install in front of your hse.

So the next question is, would you subscribe to Unifi or Maxis Fibre?

I got upgraded to 300Mbps without me clicking anything, but speed check said I'm definitely not even near to that speed. I was using Wifi to test and got 60Mbps as the result. So, I logged into my unifi account and check my turbo status. Apparently I need to agree to something. Will this help my speed?

For now, you can only enjoy near 300Mbps speeds if you're using a WiFi router that supports 5GHz 802.11ac. And you have to connect to the 5GHz WiFi network instead of the usual 2.4GHz WiFi network.

In simple words, the typical speeds you can get by connecting a 2.4GHz WiFi is only around 50-60Mbps, and you can hardly get higher speed than that.

If your WiFi network name has something like the "2.4" or 5.0", you connect to that "5.0" one. If don't have, check your WiFi router settings.

This is like long time ago
I tried with 5GHz wifi and managed to go to 80Mbps
Ah, thanks. Read about it, next step: Gonna get my BTU upgraded and probably upgrade my router
*

Even with 5GHz, it could be due to WiFi interference or your WiFi router signals may be not strong enough (far away from router).
What's your WiFi router brand and model? Share some photos of your routers would be better if possible.

Hi sifu, my house have an wifi repeater in ground floor and main router at 1st floor. My problem is when every time i move from ground floor to 1st floor, my phone wifi are still link to repeater instead of router wifi signal. May i know what can I do to make my phone auto switch to main router?
*

Use Mesh WiFi. It is expensive but the handover from one wifi point into another point will be seamless as u go from ground floor to upstairs.

WiFi repeater although it may be affordable, but it isn't very reliable.

Finally had the time to visit TMPoint and downgraded my package.  The guy asked me where i heard of the RM89 for 30MBPS and asked if i called 100. I said yes. Then suddenly he said why you want to rugi your speed. He recommended me to change to 50MBPS for RM99.  I am currently paying RM189.75. I said to him how come i never hard of this pckg. He said its for people like me who is  on VDSL wor. hmmmm... I am waiting for the change to happen.
*

"Why rugi your speed" then recommend 50Mbps for RM99/month rclxms.gif rclxms.gif rclxms.gif
TM be like: "We don't mind much to give you more speed, as long you pay us more money then we happy. rclxm9.gif "

So it appears that there is such thing as 50Mbps for a counter-offer package of RM99/month but only for Unifi VDSL customers.

Hi Guys. Just checking. If a condo recently have been installed with Time Fiber, ia there a possibility that TM will also install  Fiber?

Cause I am paying quite high for 50 Mbps and planning to change to Time.  I asked TM but they are not giving any answer.

QUOTE(SilentVampire @ Sep 28 2019, 06:09 PM)
Don’t waste your time and switch to TIME ASAP!
*
TM also don't giving any answer? Because very likely that the particular customer service person himself/herself find that if you can subscribe to TIME Fibre, no need to think twice, just switch to TIME.

Can avoid TM, then avoid.

Done. I don't mind the contract extension as TIME will never come to my area & Unifi still better than Maxis Fibre here.

This new promo feels kinda fishy. Seems like it is out there mainly to attract those that got turbo-ed.

Maybe something really interesting coming next year or another big player coming in to fight the fibre pie.
*

Yeah, still remember Viewqwest?
https://www.soyacincau.com/2019/09/11/viewq...sbb-fibre-plan/

Who knows later Viewqwest offers dirt cheap fibre plans in the area, then people will kick Unifi to its own grave.
I think that's why TM wants to protect themselves from losing more customers who is planning to switch to other ISP, so they tie your leg for the next 2 years to "guarantee" that these amount of customers will be paying me this total amount of large sum of money upon 2 years contract reach to an end.

In my opinion, if you memang plan to stick with TM Unifi for the next 2 years, and very confident that either Maxis Fibre is sucks in your area or TIME Fibre just won't come to your area anytime soon or no other ISP will come to your area for the next 2 years, then this Pay Nothing promo may be a right choice for you, as long you got money to pay your TM bill.

VDSL is copper?
Normal 30mbps is FTTH.
*
QUOTE(krsdy76 @ Oct 7 2019, 03:10 PM)
I think copper. but I just give it a try since system allows me to submit it. Lets see.
*

As long you see VDSL or ADSL (Streamyx), that is copper cable for sure. No doubt.
FTTH can actually go up to few Gbps one, it's just a matter of time when TM and other ISP (internet service providers) would offer such super fast speeds.

VDSL max theoretical speed is 100Mbps, but due to many technical factors, users may experience speed fluctuations and unstable network performance if the speed is given too high (near to 100Mbps) so it really depend on the condition of the cabling and other stuffs.

So to make TM's life easier, they rather cap it to 30Mbps speed package available to customer to subscribe and save all those headache by saying "Your building can support maximum 30Mbps, sorry for the inconvenience."
Blame TM also no point cuz they always want to save cost since a decade ago, so they don't lay fibre cable to premises especially in high rise buildings cuz it's expensive. Yet, their service quality is just ________(u fill in the blank).
