Is there a website where I can verify the Japan AirBnB minpaku license number?

It's mentioned in the airbnb listing itself. Just double check the host's posting and you'll usually see it there.
*
Yeah, It is written here. I did ask the host and they, say I haven't booked yet so unable to show photo via airbnb. hmm.gif

It may be a bit suspicious ya if they didn't show the registration number on the post. All of the hosts I checked - they have it. If not listed, I wouldn't go for it. This is to avoid any complications of having accomm cancelled last minute due to unapproved license. Suggest to go for another airbnb if there are others.

you don't take chances like this. too risky if you ask me and your whole trip will be disastrous if this happen to be a con case.
*
Yeap, booked other places with better and more recent reviews. Now in the midst of planning itinerary during my off days, 2 days for Osaka and 2 Days for Tokyo.

Looks fine to me, except Day 2 seem packed. You may want to put 1-2 of the places as back up to go, when you have extra time.
*
Thanks, which of day 2 places can be done during day 1?

Also do I need to buy Shinkansen tickets in advance? As i'm going during Obon week which I think is super peak period.

Shinkansen have reserved and non-reserved. Suggest  you buy reserved as early as possible as Obon is normally a peak period. If not try squeezing in to the non-reserved seat and hope you get a seat. If not just stand lor.
*
Is it possible to buy online? Is this the correct web? https://www.westjr.co.jp/global/en/ticket/

Lots of Japanese documentation is written in Japanese years. When you fill in form, like Date of birth, you need to also put it showa/heisei, etc. If you go to a council, normally there is a card that help you to mapped what year in roman calendar to Japanese calendar.
Small station you can buy it off the machine though not all have it. Big station have a counter that you can buy it from. Of course it have to be JR station.

ok got it thank you!

But you exchange a bit and top up BigPay card and use it for shopping. This way you don't have to carry too much cash.

In my last Japan trip, BigPay rate is much better than any currency exchangers in Mid Valley.
*
BigPay is widely used in Japan? Or Cash is still better? Will be traveling this August.

Just wanna say thank you for this thread, even though I didn't really do many touristy activities as more like hanging out and exchanging with Japanese friends. Still good tho, with exception of Typhoon Krosa...

We try to be as flexible as possible this time, hence we will have two weeks this round to cover Kansai and Northern Kyushu. Hopefully no rushing as both of us just want to spend time together and walking slowly to enjoy the view. We are not living in the same country, one year only meet once or twice. cry.gif
Yeah, I'm surprised to see it covers Nozomi. laugh.gif

Anyway, if I want to book Shinkansen rides with JR Pass, I can only do it in the JR centre right? Looks like gotta spend some time there when we are in Osaka. Prefer to reserve seats and hope to get seats in Hello Kitty Shinkansen. Is there any way I can book Shinkansen rides online? Last time when I travelled from Tokyo to Osaka, I just bought the ticket separately in Shinjuku as I didn't buy any JR Pass that time. tongue.gif

Just cameback from Japan trip. I used SmartEx App to book Shinkansen tickets reserve seats for Shin-Osaka to Tokyo. Just collect ticket at the machine. Very convenient.

going japan with ANA this autumn. 12 days.

1. landing at Narita. what cheap transportation to go to Tokyo area?

2. is it worthy to skip kansai area and explore Tokyo only for 12 days? which area you recommend to explore Tokyo area?

3. is it worthy to skip USJ, Disneyland and DISNEYSEA??my son only 1 year old.

4. any free entrance area you recommend? I rike sightseeing like to watch leaves fall in the park etc.

sorry I am noob never go Japan before. dunno where to start. their transportation system look like very complicated.
*
1. I think bus is cheapest.

2. Personally better for 1 city IMO.

3. Yes.

4. Plenty of free places can explore.

Yes Japan Train map can be complicated, I got lost in Tokyo station. Need to watch out for rapid/express train, sometimes the train will stop at a station and you need to change to another train. However the people there are very helpful. Make sure you get IC card.

QUOTE(L.Torreira @ Aug 14 2019, 09:27 AM)
why their transportation costs are expensive? no free transport like GoKL? no Uber?
*
Have uber but only in Tokyo area.Only Uber Black. IINM

I'm going on a short trip to Tokyo at the end of the month. Where's the cheapest place to get tokyo banana & shiroi koibito? Or should I just buy at the airport?
*
Airport sometimes don't have what you want. I got my Shiroi Koibito at Ishiya Ginza at Ginza 6.

QUOTE(-kytz- @ Aug 14 2019, 10:52 AM)
I decided not to go with Airbnb because the agreement is really between you and the owner and the owner can really cancel on you last minute. Happened to a family member of mine.

It's also quite frustrating because the location of the units in the map is not correct, more often its way further away than what's shown on the map.

Luckily, the hotels I booked in Osaka and Kyoto has extrmeley good location and very reasonable too.
I think you could still do Tokyo + Osaka/Kyoto but it might be a rush trying to cover so many places in just 12 days. Really depends on the type of traveller you are? Are you the type who enjoy visiting many places in one day or do you prefer to take your time to not rush around?
*
Which airbnb was that? Can share here or via PM so can avoid? My recent trip both AirBnB are really good. Also curious of the hotels you booked. hmm.gif

Mine is JR Pass, so I think I must book via the office. hmm.gif

Ah ok not too sure about JR Pass, didn't get a chance to use it during my trip, since only using 1 way bullet train.

Maybe next trip to Shizuoka during January can utilize since I plan to fly in HND then take trains to Shizuoka and vice versa.

QUOTE(-kytz- @ Aug 21 2019, 09:29 PM)
The location on the Airbnb map is actually an approximate so imagine all the Airbnb located right at prime areas like dotonburi is not actually there. I had PM each owner for their location which are like 1-2 stations away.

In Osaka, I booked Ibis HotelĀ  for around RM330/night for 5 nights. Right opposite Dotonburi.

In kyoto, the hotel is right in the centre of Gion for around RM370/night.

Oh man that sucks. Well TBH both my AirBnBs in Osaka and Tokyo also isn't prime but I went for an event (Osaka International Diabolo Competition) so just 1 station to the event place. In Osaka I stayed in Ajirokita which is near Shin-Fukae & Fuse Station. In Tokyo I went for summer sonic so I stayed in Funabashi, also all quite near 3 stations, Higashi-kaijin, Keisei-Funabashi & Funabashi staiton.

Will check out IBIS hotel next time I'm in Osaka.

Thanks. Is there a good way to break a 10,000 yen note? I mean is it okay to buy something <1000 yen at a kombini with a 10,000 note? These are the only notes I was given by the money changer.
*
Yes no problem at all.

If you think coins are a hassle, some places accept IC card as payment. Just top up money to the card and use it as payment.
