me myself love Nikon DSLR, since im a newbie, i would rather get a compact digital, and for that, Canon is my first choice for compact digital 1-PowerShot G7(like the DLSR-like, wanted to buy long ago but expensive) 2-PowerShot TX1(like its HD feature) i've read all the specs both of this camera but still cannot make desission which to get... any sifu here mind give me some comment? sifu would get which compact digital cam for their backup camera? I'm no sifu but i have the G7 and loving it. I used to shoot with film SLRs and i feel right at home with the G7 - control, features, sharp images, hot shoe - it's all there in one small package. Only setback for me are ergonomics and focusing speed (compared to slr) but otherwise fantastic for anyone who wants to jump into photography or even pros. I shoot mostly with it now and my back-up is my old Nikon F90 slr

I saw G7's price tag yesterday at Bintang Maju; it is RM1700. Didn't attempt to ask the best price yet.

QUOTE(hannahtbt @ Jun 14 2007, 03:27 PM) If you will be taking pictures most of the time and the picture quality is more important than video quality then opt for G7. If videos is your main intention then opt for TX1. Bare in mind that you will be holding TX1 in a vertical video camera like manner and this would not be comfortable when taking lots of photos with it. Usually combo models like TX1 will have a compromise, you can't have the best of both photo and video in one. TX1 looks fragile to me and not well built. If you need to do videos often, I suggest getting a seperate entry level MiniDV digital camcorder. I find that the G7 is surprisingly small enough to fit in my side or back pocket yet feels secure when held. I would go for the G7. Note that if you don't mind the extra weight and unpocketable size, a Nikon D40 can be had for less than RM2K. If you're planning to take up photography as a hobby I suggest getting a DSLR otherwise it will be soon enough that you will want to upgrade to one when you realise that DSLR speed is far superior. While the Fujifilm f31fd are known for it's colours it is a lower range of camera compared to G7 in terms of performance and functions. in term of specification + megapixel yes, for...performance...erm....

A Nikon D40 can be had for about the price of Canon G7. althought D40x is good for newbies like me, but i wouldn wanna get it yet, for now...because i haven't manage to 'hold' a DSLR camera yet its RM400-500 more expensive than the G7 tho

If you read the review for TX1 in dpreview, the result doesn't look very convincing. It's written that TX1 is not capable to replace a proper camcorder too.

hmm, i guess i have a clear answer for myself... this G7 has been in my top list ever since last year Dec...but recently only my G2(not mine actually, my sis pass it to me and i got in love with camera) battery died and i dont wanna buy a new battery for that...
tell me, how long can the G7 record video? depends on the memory? because G2 only can record for 30sec =.="
