QUOTE(RegentCid @ Jan 9 2019, 10:40 AM)
4 Days 3 Night Excluded Hotel for 2 Pax
- AirAsia super cheap ticket
- Light Shopping
- Borobudur + Prambanan Combo entrance ticket (no sunrise)
- Water Castle + Palace sightseeing
- Fully utilize Trans Jogja Bus + Walking
- 1 Day hire driver to Jomblang Cave + Timang Beach (Photo only no ride cable car)
- Roadside stall meal for 4 days
- 1 splurge meal for final night at Bale Raos

Total RM900++ only for 2 pax  biggrin.gif

25000 IDR each way for one pax to Borobudur by public bus
* Bus driver drive like crazy maniac (Can reference from youtube how Indonesia bus drive)

3000 IDR each way for transjogja to Prambanan
*
not that extreme to save like that...so prolly RM1.5k is enough
this thread doesn't really provide how much time needed for each attaction

this is my very rough itinerary, any comments?

28th Feb - Arrive....????
1st Mar – Borobudur Temple, Merapi Volcano
2nd Mar – Prambanan Temple, Timang Beach
3rd Mar – Sunday Morning Market, Taman Sari, Keraton Palace, Ford Vredeberg, Beringharjo Market
4th Mar – Goa Jomblang??
5th Mar - Back

Before i share my trips on where to go and what to eat
Here are some tips for those who're planning to go to yogyakarta

This site contains the most updated and most complete info regarding yogyakarta
from the entrance fee to all the attractions to where to get your sim card to where to go and eat
Most updated entrance fee : https://www.yogya-backpacker.com/the-entran...gyakarta-jogja/
Sim card(Get telkomsel) : https://www.yogya-backpacker.com/mobile-operators/

for those who went on low season/rainy season and was contemplating whether to go for the sunrise on borobudur temple or not
my suggestion is to constantly check the weather on google and accuweather
check 1 day before whether tomorrow's 4-8AM whether it will rain or not, if both google and accuweather suggested it won't rain(as long no rain)
then you can proceed with the sunrise
the price difference of the sunrise and non-sunrise is 100k RP which is abt RM30
what you're getting out of it is not just sunrise, what you get more is
1. nearer parking to the temple as oppose to non-sunrise(you walk less)
2. the sunrise itself(it's literally a big yolk)
3. a piece of batik scarf upon returning the flashlight
4. breakfast buffet
5. less crowded as well because you will see a surge of student around 7AM
So, in short..you're getting your moneys worth

For Prambanan temple
the entrance fee is actually USD25(depending on the exchange rate of USD to rupiah)
when i was there, the price is 350K RP/each
and be sure to walk all the way to the back until candi sewu because i noticed many people especially tourist thought that the ticket mentioned prambanan temple that they're only visiting prambanan temple only or there is only Prambanan temple inside the compound
There are 3 more temples within the compound, the last one will be candi sewu which is a must visit
The whole thing goes 1 big round so don't just visit prambanan and exit

For merapi jeep tour
The price stated on the site is not consistent
it really depends on which company your driver brings you to
the company i was brought to only have 4 package...short(350k), medium(450k), long(550k) and sunrise
there are many company around the area offering the tour at different price

For shopping
for those who want to get cheap things and large selection in yogyakarta
You guys can visit ramai mall in the middle malioboro street, from malioboro mall...there is a j.co donut attached to it
go to the basement supermarket, you can see them selling a varieties of products that is limited in convenient store like k-mart/indon maret
price is also the cheapest among all
how to know it's cheap?...it's so cheap locals are willing to queue up at the cashier to buy here

for batik, go to the end of malioboro street and walk down a little further to hamzah batik
this place has a/c and also has the most complete collection on batik
you can get pretty much anything batik here from shirt to pants to table cloth to bed sheet to blanket to hoodie
prices are reasonable but non-negotiable unlike stalls outside

for cheap transport from airport to city center(malioboro)
after you've exited the arrival area...turn right and walk all the way to the domestic terminal
at the middle of the terminal there is an underpass which takes you to the other side
after you got to the other side, walk all the way till the end till you see a bus stop that look special because it's not exposed
it's a yellow colored elevated station that has a roof and wall
take bus 1A(3500 RP/person) to malioboro 1 or 2 depending where you wanna go
take the same 1A bus to go back to the airport
this saves you a lot of money

QUOTE(MR_alien @ Mar 13 2019, 09:11 PM)
depends how u define "food haven"
i just come back, all of their dishes are toward sweet
our food and tastebud is more towards savory

the best ever dishes i ate in yogyakarta is lumpia samijaya...fits malaysian taste
es rujak pak nardi is the weirdest food i've ever tasted, the perfect example of sweet and savory...at the same time
below is rojak buah = salty, above is strawberry ice-cream = sweet....when i take my 1st bite, i look at my bro and like WTF is this laugh.gif
it's not bad, it's not good either

2nd best is yammie pathunk = chicken wanton noodle(they call pangsit = wanton)
3rd best is bakso sapi pak ateng
these dishes made to top 3 because it fits malaysian taste

other more directed to sweet ohmy.gif

QUOTE(MR_alien @ Mar 13 2019, 09:26 PM)
few things more abt yogyakarta
i initially wanted to bring my bro and go eat nasi gudeg(national dish)
but somehow that morning the hotel serve gudeg...i told my bro to take a little and taste and see if u llke it 1st
he tasted it, i tasted it....well, we both don't like it...so we cancelled the nasi gudeg plan
it's sweet laugh.gif

the nasi goreng, bakmi(mee) goreng stall in the whole yogyakarta is charcoal fried, not gas
which makes it taste so good and stay hot for so long

another thing to taste is their CFC(California Fried Chicken)
it tasted EXACTLY like our KFC
from the skin to the meat...100% same
not sure this brand is local or international(since "california")

if i have 1 night to explore, my best bet would be jalan malioboro right?
*
yes, malioboro
but if u monitor closely
u don't see much tourist at all
u will only see tourist that are on self travel there
and there are more locals there than tourist laugh.gif

i wonder where those tourist that travel by tour bus went(after evening)

Food to try in Yogyakarta

1. Lumpia Samijaya(MUST TRY), you gotta have this a few times before u even leave yogyakarta because it is just so good
user posted image

Price stated in front of the stall and always get the special
user posted image

2. Yammie Pathuk(Pangsit - wanton in indon) and yes...it's halal...the inside is chicken
Literally their only menu items..basic
user posted image

Forgot what this is call but basically it's air sirap mango..it's good though
user posted image

user posted image

Chicken filling inside(different experience)
user posted image

3. Jejaruman...it's a touristy restaurant but still got local inside but price is on the higher side, my driver took me here for lunch
it's famous for mushroom satay, i find it meh only but their roast chicken is the BOMB
if you happen to end up here, get the roast chicken(multiple serving)...small in size but pack with flavour

4. Mie Bhayangkara(Non-halal)...i was actually searching for Mie Goreng BB pathuk, but after walking back and forth..i can't seem to find it. There are no signboard or anything that shows the stalls name
So, i end up with this stall which is just nearby(literally in front of pasar pathuk) but i think this is the actual stall i'm looking for based on what i saw on google but no actual stall photos are being taken yet
the stall is straightforward selling fried rice or fried noodle but it's non-halal because they will ask what topping you want and say babi?
Portions are big, price is cheap and the most important part is...it's fried using charcoal thumbup.gif

5. Kopi Jos...It's basically black coffee with hot charcoal dunked into it and yes, it's safe to drink....many question can it even be drank
many people from other parts of indonesia came here just to drink this
this drink is available in many angkringan on Jalan Wongsodirjan but Angkringan Kopi Jos Lek Man should be the most famous ones
People came here not just for the drink but for the food as well

How to drink the coffee?
once the coffee arrived, the charcoal would be boiling inside the cup...let it boil for a few seconds...take the charcoal out and put it aside and enjoy the drink as it is
The coffee tasted like what i had when i was small, it's not bitter at all

6. Sop Ayam Pak Min...if you found yourself got nothing to eat, this is the perfect place. It's location is just located off the malioboro street
they serve different parts of chicken in chicken soup paired with rice and the price here is ridiculously low like taking a chicken thigh will only cost you 16k IDR
Most importantly, it tasted good

Menu
user posted image

The have various sauces that you can put on top of your rice to make it taste even better
user posted image

7. Murtabak manis....dirt cheap in indonesia but expensive in malaysia. A once in a long time indulgence but can't eat it every week or month unless you wanna get diabetes, it's pretty fattening too. Many choices of filling to choose from, from cheese to chocolate to raisin to oreo and many more
No specific stall but if you happen to pass a stall that sells it, do get it

8. Rujak Es Krim Pak Nardi(8AM-3PM)
Ok, now this is something new to me and it's weird
On top, it's basically strawberry ice-cream but at the bottom it's rojak which consist of fruit and veges
it's basically the perfect description of sweet & savory because the top is sweet but bottom is savory
Worth a try but i think it won't suit everybody's taste but locals are flocking here to eat it

user posted image

The Es Krim Rujak itself
user posted image

9. Bakso "Sapi" Pak Ateng
The name speak for itself what do they serve and this is how bakso looks like in the motherland unlike the ones we get in malaysia which are filled with tons of toppings as high as a mountain...most of the toppings given in malaysia doesn't even exist in bakso indonesia
Here in indonesia, it's very basic, cheap and delicious

10. CFC(California Fried Chicken)
NO, it's not from California laugh.gif
The fried chicken here tasted exactly like KFC like 100% exact copy to the taste of the batter
did they buy it from kFC? hmm.gif laugh.gif
Multiple branches around malioboro street

user posted image

user posted image

11. Il Tempo De Gelato
This is definitely for gelato fans
There are 2 branches in yogyakarta...depending where you're at(north or south of the city)...there is a branch at that side
But you definitely need a form of private transport to reach any of the branches because they're not located near city center
They have a water dispenser that you can drink unlimited water for free and a clean toilet too

12. Mie Ayam
Now for the picture i'm going attached, i don't know exactly where it is
it's basically a stall that my driver brought be to that is roadside stall located in the middle of nowhere
but you can try this "Mie Ayam Bu Tumini - Jl. Imogiri Timur No.187, Giwangan, Umbulharjo(10AM-5PM)"

user posted image

Other things you should try/buy while in yogyakarta

1. Teh botol - need no introduction, people who frequent indon should know about it

user posted image

i get to try this 2 on my gunung merapi tour, can drink as much as you like

user posted image

user posted image

2. Varieties of their air badak - they have so much more flavour here as compared to us which is only available in plain flavour only
Be warn, it works...it really cools u down and don't overdrink it
i overdrank it and came back malaysia feeling really cold for the rest of the week
i'm not sick...no fever, no runny nose, no nothing...i just felt genuinely very cold

user posted image

3. Varieties of mee sedap/instant noodle - they just simply got way more flavour that isn't sold in malaysia
If you're going to the es krim rujak pak nardi, there is a supermarket outside the main road that has way more variety and cheaper price compare to convenient store
Can google for "Superindo Jalan Sultan Agung"

user posted image

user posted image

4. Flavoured minyak angin - minyak angin here in malaysia only got 1 flavour also known as cap kapak but here in indon, their minyak angin actually got flavour and can act as aromatherapy
many flavours to choose from, available in every convenient store(look at the medication section)

Looks like this
