Hi, my newborn (3weeks old) is having neonatal jaundice for 2 weeks. Did a blood test to check the Billirubin level.

2nd Week : 240 mol/L
3rd Week : 140 mol/L

Pediatrician told me there is high chance for the jaundice to rebound again since my wife & I have O - Blood Group.
So I am looking for traditional medicines to continuously keep the billirubin level low for my newborn.

Please advice.

Rubbish.
That’s a poor pediatrician.
3 weeks old then jaundice is not neonatal jaundice.

It is prolonged jaundice. Prolonged jaundice has nothing to do with blood group. Prolonged jaundice is usually not a cause of concern. Just need to exclude any possible pathological cause of prolonged jaundice. If all pathological causes are excluded it is usually breast milk jaundice which is of no harm to the baby.

please feed your new born with breast milk only, they cant take anything other than milk. as long as it go lower its in check.
you are putting your child at risk for feeding him anything other than milk. their digestive system is not mature enough yet.

but, your baby, your choice...

No TCM medication shall be given, you might put your baby at higher risk , trust me. Please ask/request for comprehensive blood check up and newborn screening, includes the blood group screening in details. I’m blood O- while my husband A+ Kidd jka-. My son were born with apgar score 10/10 but with another special blood group. No jaundice the first 24hours, the moment he breastfeeds, His jaundice level increased significantly, so high. Since I’m in private hospital and had my own doctor’s team, we got chance to did intensive blood, immune, gene test and examination. And yes his immune were challenged by one of the components in my breastmilk and most likely it’s the one that caused the jaundice/breastmilk jaundice(it’s a super rare case). We stop the breastmilk and his jaundice went away within 24hours. Get phototherapy and consult your paed always before you give anything towards your baby. I believe you don’t want any regrets in the future if your baby got multiple organs failure/ disorder. I’m an open minded mom who prefer the safest way for my son, so we go for formula. You can try to supplement with formula and see if it’s works, who knows your baby at the same boat with mine. Good luck, pray for your little one. And by the way, yes it’s prolonged neonatal jaundice (neonatal is the term that we used in medical context to refer a newborn baby below 4 weeks/28days). Being parents are not easy, but no matter what, you are the chosen angel From God to taking care and nurture this precious gift. Be strong:)

I think he meant for a traditional way to overcome jaundice.

IMHO Chinese use herbal to bath baby with jaundice and early morning sunrise sun bath (cover bb eyes)

Better follow dr's advice whether your bb Billirubin level require phototherapy

Blood group related jaundice usually onset at day 1 of life and severe particularly if child is different blood group than mum. If both of u O, for certain all your kids are also O. If not, he ain’t yours bruh.
Prolonged jaundice defined as jaundice beyond 2 wks in term babies. Needs to be fully investigated for conjugated or non as predominant bilirubin type to narrow down the possibility. As the trend is coming down, I wouldn’t worry and find TCM as it can be more harmful for the baby’s liver. But do monitor the level closely for persistence. Stool color?

Breast milk is causing jaundice. Feed with powder milk instead. Breast milk can store and use after jaundice is cleared.

wife got sound from nurse for feeding bb with formula when we went checkup and brought our daughter to hospital for phototherapy
if your wife is producing enough and have milk, breast milk is always 1st choice.

The exact cause of breast milk jaundice isn’t known. However, it may be linked to a substance in the breast milk that prevents certain proteins in the infant’s liver from breaking down bilirubin. The condition may also run in families.

I think most happened to Asian.
