As per title.

I intend to buy a desktop for my daughter, been actually wanting to build a low end desktop for school work and some light gaming.

I, myself, on the other hand using i5 4690 + GTX960 + 8GB + 240GB SSD for gaming (witcher 3, just cause 3, the new tomb raider series, mostly medium settings) and lightroom/photoshop.

So I am wondering should I just give my daughter my current cpu and buy a new pc for myself, or just build a cheap desktop.

So my question is:
1. any spec that cost about 3k (same price as I built my current one few years ago) that is significantly better than my current pc? I mean high-highest settings for most modern games. (excluding monitor, keyboard, mouse, speaker)

2. any spec that cost about 1.5k (excluding monitor, keyboard, mouse, speaker) that is good for some light gaming and Microsoft Office. She used to play Guild Wars 2 @ lowest settings @ 800x450 on my ancient laptop with GT620M, so anything better is a huge improvement already)

It's been years since I last built my own pc so I am very much outdated already, very much appreciated if any sifu can throw some suggestions. =)

both seems viable. for long term I think buy 2600 with rx580 is better choice. but for my daughter usage, 2200g seems like more suitable.. dilemma dilemma..

I actually rarely game for quite a while now, mostly during weekend or when I damn bored. So I think I will take your advise by getting her 2200g first. Then when I really need an upgrade, I will pass her the 960 and get myself something better.

Thanks bro. however, do you happen to have an idea of the parts that is reliable while not too expensive for a decent 2200g build?
