Visited this place after hearing that the main chef from Oribe had come out to start a restaurant of his own. Let me qualify that I am a big fan of Oribe. I ordered the “Omakase” menu at Sushi Ori and this is my brief review of my experience dining here (I’m benchmarking my experience with the one I had at Oribe).

1. Location is worse than Oribe; although both have free parking.
2. Décor so so. Oribe seemed like it had a better vibe.
3. Omakase price at Ori (RM512 excluding 6% tax) is a tad higher than Oribe.
4. Sashimi dish was very small and limited; serving was 5 pieces of sushi! much less in terms of variety and pieces vs Oribe. This is was a shocker to me so called Omakase. Not worth the money paid.
5. Was served a meatball dish, nothing spectacular and looked cheap (mind u this was a Omakase Set).
6. Grilled dish – was just a piece of grilled cod fish. What the?! I think I got omakased.
7. Service was subpar (some staff members were not trained properly) as we sat in the private rooms.
8. Dessert was below average. Not nice and I didn’t even want to finish it.
9. Finally, at the end of the session, both of us did not find the meal to be filling. Recalled that at Oribe we were so so full.

In summary, not recommended.

Thanks for the review, I haven't had time to try yet, and I also wonder why Chef Ori left Oribe. Since he left Hinata to start Oribe with partner/s.

Which place omakase would you recommend?

Am thinking of Hinata.... is Oribe better?

Value for money which would you recommend?

Hinata has table seats so i dont know if it is omakase since usually it should be in front of chef counter.

Didn't know Chef Ori split from Oribe and made his own. Always thought Oribe was his own venture.

Anyway the pricing is crazy already. Last time RM208 can get you the best sushi set...

Yeah he left Hinata and setup Oribe with some other investors. He's gone solo with Sushi Ori.

I go to Hinata and Kame Sushi regularly, and still enjoy both.

I used to go to Oribe when Chef Ori was there, however I have not been to Oribe or Sushi Ori since he moved. Will definitely be trying both again soon.

Kampachi has also reopened at EQ.

For those who like bigger portion, can also try out hanaya.

They know what ppl like and combo them together. Making the meal super satisfying

But for more authentic experience, i guess ori and oribe are more suitable. Azabu also not bad hehe
