National mixed doubles pair Chan Peng Soon-Goh Liu Ying need a budget of at least RM200,000 each in the effort to seek the qualification ticket to the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.

The costs would be incurred by taking part in international championships under the Badminton World Federation (BWF) including in other continents to gather qualification points to the Olympic Games.

Liu Ying said she and her partner, Peng Soon who were the winners of the silver medal at the 2016 Rio Olympic Games were still in the midst of discussions with potential sponsors but had not arrived at a decision after opting to leave the Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM) recently.

‘’We will do our best to qualify for the Olympics, but the biggest problem we are facing now is looking for sponsors to participate in championships. We need at least RM200,000 each because we will not only be participating in championships in Asia.

‘’There are also championships in Europe such as in England, Denmark and Germany which will (each) incur a cost of RM20,000 to RM30,000 a person. We hope we can settle this matter,’’ she told reporters after helping the Puchong United Badminton Club (BC) beat Kepong BC 11-8 a the 2018/19 Purple League SS competition here last night.

Liu Ying, who was paired with Hong Kong import player, Tang Chun Man who won the bronze medal at the World Championship in August beat Mohd Arif Abdul Latif-Cheah Yee See 3-1 (11-4, 8-11, 11-10, 11-4), to simultaneously ensure the defending champions Puchong United BC stayed at the top of the chart.

Asked on the aid they hoped for from the Youth and Sports Ministry (KBS), the 29-year-old player from Melaka said a training court was the most pressing need currently.

‘’Currently, we are still playing at BAM, but after the notice with BAM ends (Jan 1, 2019) we don’t know what it would be like as we have not received any information, I hope KBS can help in this matter,’’ she said.

The pair which is 13th in the world currently, would begin the 2019 season by participating in the Thailand Masters from Jan 8-13, followed by Malaysian Masters (Jan 15-20) and Indonesian Masters (Jan 22-27).

y not. olympic is about the heart and soul of how much drive you have to enter the olympic , if u have money ,u can beg but these two have money and big house . if they willing to sell their assets and go for the olympic, good samaritan will help them a bit . but they don't even willing to sacrifice their car and house, u think people wanna help them if they can't even believed in what they can do .

Most of them are money minded because of the realistic environment in BAM. Without the restriction from BAM, they can raked up million dollars deal without have to train hard and pressured to win. Winning another Olympic medal is no longer a big deal because they have already won the silver so right now is to make more and more money for future.

The country’s best-performing shuttlers are in dire need of a sports performance analyst to assist them in having a better understanding of their opponents in their bid to qualify for the Tokyo Olympic Games next year.

But they do not enjoy such a privilege anymore because they are no longer under the banner of the Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM) since turning professional in January this year.

BAM president Datuk Seri Norza Zakaria had earlier snubbed the professional pairs’ request for sport science services from the National Sports Institute (NSI) as priority is given to the BAM players.

Unfortunately, that will be a tad too late for Peng Soon-Liu Ying.

World No. 5 Peng Soon-Liu Ying have the option of looking at a sports science expert outside of the NSI but that will involve money and they are cash-strapped.

The 2016 Rio Olympic silver medallists said they were feeling vulnerable as their opponents seem to know more about their game but they lack the scientific data on their rivals.

This was evident when they went down tamely 10-21, 6-21 to world No. 2 and eventual champions Wang Yilyu-Huang Dongping of China in the semi-finals of the Japan Open on Saturday.

A week ago, they lost 13-21, 20-22 to the same pair in the semi-finals of the Indonesian Open.

Peng Soon reckons it’s imperative for him and Liu Ying to get help from a sports performance expert to keep up with their rivals.

“The outcomes of the last two tournaments showed we desperately need a sports analyst,” said Peng Soon.

“We were soundly beaten by Yilyu-Dongping. They know our moves and we couldn’t play our game. They have analysed our game very closely with the help of their support service team and coaches.

“Players from other countries are doing the same too with the Olympic qualification currently going full swing.

“We definitely need to get one sports expert to assist us too. Most of the best guys are with the NSI and we are not sure whether there are other certified experts out there.”

This year, Peng Soon-Liu Ying have won the Thailand Masters and New Zealand Open.

They reached the quarter-finals in nine out of the 12 events they competed in this year.
