I really don't think you should be spreading misinformation like this.

There are only two parties here: the user and apple's or google's official app store. Your account info is not likely to be phished when you update your apps through the official store, regardless if you are logged into the app or not.

If the user update through non official means or using non authorised apk it can be phished easily as it has already been proven already 🤦‍♀️ and it is not misinformation as it is proven fact otherwise why would certains apps use OTC to authenticate transactions 🤦‍♀️

That is why you logged out after you use your account particularly with those which financially sensitive which is why some apps will have either log out or timeout on the app itself 🤦‍♀️

He already mentioned the user went through the playstore. for official playstore or official repos, this is usually what happens in an update:

1) checks whether any new packages present
2) downloads from the repositories (in this case the playstore)
3) verifies the checksum of the downloaded package
4) writes over the changed files, user configuration files may or may not be overwritten

All this is done on the phone. In a normal update process, it doesn't send user info out from the phone. (edit: beyond general stuff like OS versions, compatibility etc)

Any data breach for a tampered installation file will usually happen after installation, when the user next logs in and uses the app.

TLDR: it really doesn't matter if you sign out or not before you update your apps.

Do you know when you update the app itself there is background program which are collecting the data including your app account information 🤦‍♀️ Uber has done before way back during its Greyball days 🤦‍♀️ So don’t think that official apps updates is not possible when it happens before countless times

What I am saying is, the update process just copies files from the repository. It makes sure that the file is the correct one and the repository is the correct one. Phishing does not occur here. The repository may collect some data like how many times a package is downloaded for the usage statistics. That is visible from their end. For google, they may collect info about which apps you download as well so that they can tie it to your account.

Your account log in info is usually not available to the app developers during the update. They only see it, if they choose to, when the app runs.

If you download the program it means you implicitly already trust the program when you log in right?
