Most of pg girls I know very vocal one. Unless from Chinese school la. If not wan. N fiercely proud of the fact of them being from island. Told me kl sucks. Kl food sucks. Say my hokkien sucks padahal we southern hokkien slang is the more ori one.
We call cacing n elephant properly  we have proper terms for things like stones
*
KL food doesn't suck...one just has to know where to find good eats, and they don't know.

Agree 100% about southern hokkien slang. I have chinese, malay, ceylonese and indian relatives in Penang...they all find the southern accent to be odd and say it's too close to teochew...sigh!
They have yet to hear a chinoy speak hokkien with a heavy tagalog accent biggrin.gif

And southern lion dance regalia are way better-looking than the plainer northern ones! #engchoonpride

If u r talking about muar one unfair la. That fella is 14 consecutive times world champion. China kena tapau every single time how to compare. My friend was trained there then he quit

Not referring to the muar troupe at all; was a general observation. Traditional northern lions livery were never as colorful and decorative as southern lions. In case you didn't realize, I was referring to the costumes, not dancing/percussive skillz.

Bro bukan sarahan. Just I dunno how to speak Mandarin. Everywhere in Pg now even if you buy food ppl. See you cinis they speak Mandarin. Also I feel like hokkien dialect losing ground due to this.
*
Hokkien has been steadily losing ground in Malacca, Muar and Johor to mandarin for quite some time. Even the Taiwan govt cut off funding to the Fujian dictionary effort years ago. This dialect is is severe decline, and I see no way of reversal, unfortunately.
