guys i'm about to change my 4 tires, my tire size is 225/50R17, now i'm on Michelin Primacy 3ST with maybe 20% thread left, i want to try UHP tires for a change, i still miss the feeling given by michelin Pilot Preceda many years ago
after some research, here's my options and finding

1) pilot sport 4 - not very keen on this, its the most costly option and while it grips well the tire had soft side walls that doesn't give good steering feedback, its like a good touring tire that happened to have excellent grips from what i read

2) falken FK510 - heard good review internationally, but not enough feedback from local kaki yet, good wet and dry performance, good price, made in japan, the only thing is the thread pattern doesn't look pretty

3) continental MC6 - locally made tires, about the same price with fk510, thread pattern looks ok but lack feedback locally

4) bridgestone RE003 - from what i read its the best tire for my taste, excellent steering feedback, excellent dry handling(many reported acceptable wet handling too),very aggressive big block thread pattern, the bummer is its almost as costly as PS4 at this size

5) hankook V12E2 - seems to be forummers favourite here when price were consider, but falken and conti aint that much more expensive than hankook offering

i'm biased towards FK510 at this moment, what you guys think

Conti MC6 not the same league as others I think.

I think PS4 is the best. Can say it wins in almost all roundup/shootout reviews over the internet. E.g.: http://www.tyrereviews.co.uk/Article/2018-...P-Tyre-Test.htm
I'm not sure if our PS4 is diff than theirs. But I know our RE003 is not same as Japanese made. I had a set of RE003 before, it's very good for dry handling. But it wears out quite fast and the wet handling is very bad once getting into worn out state (~30%)

i watched many written and video reviews of PS4, while it wins many shootout but i can't help noticed many of the reviewers had to carefully choose their words when giving their opinion about ps4,objectively ps4 score well but they don't seems to be very impressed on the subjective feeling for that tire
its the complete opposite when reading the re003 (and firestone fire hawk indy 500 i think its the same tire) review

If you're inclined with the fk510, no harm trying it.

As you mentioned not much noise about local kakis, well of course, because it was launched only few months ago.

Some more, the reputation of falken isn't the best in perception in local market, even tyre shops also have some reservation about falken.

Some fellors just got to be the "guinea pig", if you do change to fk510, do share it here smile.gif

PS4 is still the best if budget is high enough. The sidewall is actually stiffer than the previous PS3 as Michelin attempts to bring back that more sporty feel that some complained a bit lost in PS3. Honestly of all reviews I read on PS4, I couldn't recall any that said it has soft sidewall except once when it was compared against the more aggressive and also much more expensive PS4S! I have also tested it myself and for me it's fine, actually a very good balance between comfort yet still sporty and excellent grip performance.

If soft sidewall, it's the V12E2. It's also the best value for money as it's the cheapest but if you like hard sidewall then it won't suite you even though actually it still provides very good performance in both dry and wet. I bought this for my son's Swift Sport btw.

FK510 has a hard sidewall so it might suite you. Between this and RE003, I will take this FK510 anytime because it should have much better wet performance which is also important in Malaysia, plus it should last longer too than RE003.

MC6 I'm not sure coz no reviews, seems like not true UHP but who knows, might actually be very good too.

So in summary I think the FK510 should be your best bet. Price is also similar to RE003 or MC6, maybe even cheaper a bit. But again if you have the budget I don't think you'd go wrong with PS4 either.

for my size...the re003 cost 520 per donut while the best price i got for ps4 was 540, at this price level its hard to justify for re003 honestly
anybody can chimp in the price of v12e2 for my size,i can't seems to find the price online for this size
i'm swaying back to ps4 slightly now, maybe on the even level with fk510
MC6 actually looks ok base on thread appearance, but we know it means nothing when it comes to actual performance,i'll wait for a few more opinion before i deciding on which to get

V12E2 for that size should be around rm350/pc
Fk510 is around rm400/pc.
Re003 & Mc6 should be around rm450/pc. 520 for Re003 is too expensive, or maybe now not many stocks for that size?

Currently use pilot sport 4 same size like u. 8th gen accord.

Way better than primacy series and conti max contact I use previously, but only if u use it to the max. If u drive like unker only 110kmh on highway and slowdown to 70kmh during rain, u will not really felt the differences as compared to primacy series.

Btw, cant comment on other tyre u listed since never use it. On pilot sport 4, its the best tyre I use. Driving 160kmh to 180kmh, and slowdown back to 110kmh, can feel tyre grip the road really good. Its bite aggressively compared to primacy series. On higher speed also, it felt more planted. During wet, I always slow down and never push it,so not really felt differences.

And ya, last time I ask, 225/50r17 around that price. I change for rm530. Dunno why this tyre range so expensive. Compared to 215/45r17 u can easily get ps4 around 400 plus.

Maybe u can follow tyre expert advise here. Settle with hankook since it bring good value for money or try conti mc6 since I heard it is leaps and bound as compared to mc5.

Did not aware u incline towards fk510. Better take this if u dont take ps4 as u said this is same price with mc6. As I felt this tyre better than mc6. Do update here with price if u bought fk510. I keen to try this tyre. Ps4 is bloody expensive, I felt want to try value for money tyre for my next change. Either hankook or this falken.

exactly, dunno why this size tend to be more expensive, even my previous e90 225/45R17 size is noticeably cheaper and had more choice.
your experience is especially valuable to me because from what i read i can sense that people who tried ps4 didn't really express that wow factor they get with the tire, its like primacy with more grip thats all. for that kinda price i really want something thats very different to primacy, otherwise i could just get primacy 4 for 430/pc or primacy 3st for 340/pc.

i felt tires like re003 and fk510 will be more suited to this car front double wishbone set up, i think the chassis had good handling potential and stiffer tire will really improve the steering feel and precision, maybe at the cost of its ride comfort, this car is already quite stiff to begin with.

one question, did your car become more bumpy and noisier changing from primacy to ps4?

I'm on my 2nd set of PS4 and moved from 225/45/17 to 225/40/18 with a rim change. At 17 it was super grippy, quiet and goes round corners well. At 18 even more feedback from the road, surer turn and handling.
On the same day my friend went for the FK510 (245 front, 265 rear) on his Merc SL340. So far he loves it, was quoted close to RM1k cheaper than Michelin PS4 as a package.
I'll definitely consider FK on my next set of tires

yea,for the latest 2018 summer tire review, tirereview uk put the fk510 in 3rd recommendation behind PS4S(not PS4) and conti SC6,which i always thought they're from totally different category as PS4S and SC6 were viewed to be more extreme

Bumpy- I feel my ride more firm but not until I feel annoying or harsh on b roads. U will get used to it very very quickly. It is a good trade off for superior handling and shorter braking distance as compared to primacy.

Noise- My car which is 8th gen is noisy at the first place. I believe there is differences between primacy and pilot sport series but I dont really notice it as wind noise is more dominant compared to tyre noise especially when car drove above 110kmh.

Btw, this comparison is between primacy 3st and ps4, primacy 4 just launched, not yet try and not really keen to try. Maybe will try Falken after this due to good feedback above. Especially in term of Price. Michelin jual mahal with their PS4 line up, All ps4 tyre range price is upmarket/premium compared to other tyre manufacturer. If Falken FK510 is good maybe will stick to that tyres, otherwise need to change back into ps4.

People who says that is because they don't know how to push their cars properly to test the tires. Read reviews from reputable professional reviewers then those are more dependable.

Tyre review UK has done comparison between PS4S and PS4 and the difference is very marginal. In fact in the hands of average drivers, the PS4 can be easier to drive consistently fast in the wet. So PS4 is already the best choice.

for my 2 cents i'll think we should take into consideration both professional reviewers and real consumers feedback, while consumer feedback do lack professional highly control testing environment and driving skills to properly test the tires;big corporation like michelin had huge marketing budget to play with and can possibly give more incentive to reviewers to encourage good verdict, its naive to say this kinda businesses practice does not exist
besides if professional review are the be all end all information we'll need to rely on,whats the point of having forum to discuss?just take professional words for it,they are professional ma

That's why I said read from reputable ones, those who usually do properly measured comparisons using real tests and tools and not just subjective feel, for example Auto Express UK. Then take like an average from those. For example is PS4 very often comes out on top or at least in the top 5 of most such comparison reviews so it should be a good bet to try.

For random consumers feedback, I can only consider on durability and noise aspects which are the least important criterias for me personally. Even that I take it with a pinch of salt, so I don't value them too highly to be honest. I do take input from people who I know as good drivers though, but I don't read reviews from any random blokes out there.
