My frens told me ifmy stock ram is 533Mhz and if i upgrade to 1gb 667 mhz ram, it will spoil in long term? How true is this? I am using laptop btw. Any sifus care to explain? smile.gif

For laptop, manufacturer most likely use the CHEAPEST, WIDELY AVAILABLE PARTS to make even on the package.

Thus, giving u 533 DDR2, and mind you, have u ever receive 1GB in single SO-DIMM but 2*512MB SO-DIMM? Again, it's cheaper that way, to the manufacturer, not to end user.

As for spoil, what will spoil? The whole laptop? Any good explanation to support that? Believe in proofs, not Kopitiam crapcocktalk.

It's all depend on your laptop chipset presets. Most OEM laptop's BIOS got minimal option, and worse, my VAIO can only let it ar SPD, can't OC, can't manipulate.

The thing is, it's using a VIA Apollo-derived 266MHz chipset. I've been using DDR333 for more than 4 years... still going strong

so, did this life testimony debunked your friend's crapcocktalk?

If something will go wrong.. then why the hell people still overclock them? back in the days when DDR333 runs at DDR500 24/7 for months, isn't that even more torturing?

tell ur friend to read more before insisting that he's correct laugh.gif

From what I remembered, DDR667 is no different to DDR533, as instead of running on 1:1, it can run quite happily on 4:3, which is better to overclocker as they can change that and overclock quite high compared to the DDR533

my home athlon xp, the mobo only support 333MHz ram. i fix it with 1G DDR400 (OC the cpu and bus speed some more) and it run for a year plus already, but still alive and kicking.

for DDR2, i never try b4. but can see alot of user suffering some issue when they plug in higher speed RAM. but was solved when the timing was adjusted perfectly. maybe their pc will blow after sometime, shuld pm them after a year or 2.  whistling.gif

my athlonXP system also installed with DDR333 and DDR400 together. i cant boot into WinXP, unless i manually lock the RAM speed at DDR333.
