not sure if this is "hardware" worthy thread, so mod kindly move it if it's not.

what if in the near future, the GPU industry achieved 100% photorealistic capability?

A Graphic card and a PC system that can produce AS REAL AS REAL LIFE graphic? Along with the effect and physics.

Will the GPU industry stand still? Because what else can we do? You cant be "realer" than real life right?

no more graphic war? End Game? Integrated real life graphic chips?

or ONE graphic card to rule us all? smile.gif

Virtual reality will be next. There really is no end game in sight. As it is right now the GPU is still evolving very rapidly, and is going way beyond just graphics. There will always be some massively parallel computation problem which it can be used for.

Exactly, but that's probably in 50 years time. Achieving complete photorealism is not trivial. Mad hardcore physics.

And even so, they are branching out into things other than graphics at this point, GPGPU applications will become much more popular by the end of this decade.

Good thinking but do limit that. For computing, most of em grow exponentially including Artificial Intelligence. Moore's Law is just the beginning, Kurzweil's Law is telling us by 2025, we can buy a system with human-type IQ or A.I for the price of current refrigerator. So basically what u were saying, u can start by do the math urself.

and there's always room for a new thing tho. Like for now we are more than good to have cpu and gpu, who knows in 5-6 years to come Ageia's PPU would be a big hit for the market at that time.

well, our eyes are "designed" to see "real" everyday life graphic. Millions of years of evolution to get it just right.

so I guess virtual reality real life graphic games would be the END GAME

no point in competing for something "better", since there's nothing to improve anymore. Unless if we wait for another million years and grow some new sensory organs that can "see" and "feel" more than our current sensory organs can.

since you are practically "living" a real life and acting it out in a game, minus the real death and injuries.

ala Matrix triology.

Fishyc*ck, so this is END GAME then?

As i said, there are things other than just games driving the GPU industry in the future. I'm not even sure it will be called GPU anymore in the near future even. It is still evolving. I can't even say what form they will take in 20 years, but even now they are being increasingly used for non graphics applications. Any sort of massively parallel computation is good for GPUs.

which means ur saying that in the past, the first man/ape or any name species u say it, see real life as blocky images?? that's why i don't believe in the BS of evolution theory..there is only perfection in life, in this case u dont see at all or can see perfectly..

don't relate technology evolution with God's perfect creation smile.gif

I think it was Bob Cowell (former Intel architect) who said it way before the whole CPU-GPU thing. Massive SIMD for teh win.

You get hurt and die for REAL~!!!!.

Becoz like the matrix, your brain will think you are getting hurt and dies, and take you along with it.

A virus that removes the death and injuries inhibitor codes and replace it with real death and injuries.

smile.gif

hehe.

well, maybe there is no end game, in the future, GPU might be used to cook our food, clean our house, raise our babies, etc. tongue.gif

who knows, computation power is needed in everything, right?

that was my point, the A.I.

GPU to clean ur house and raise babies ? dude, life aint no movies u need to realize that. do u know what GPU stands for ? its graphic processing unit. How in the earth would GPU clean ur house ? I thot u were thinking smart, i was wrong.

no offense, u have good idea and thinking. Just, ur wasting it on the wrong direction my fren. Better let that kinda thinking of the world will become a movie like "matrix", slip from ur mind.

btw how old r u ? it's ok if ur in like 12-20 range. If ur older than that, grow up. Again no offense. It's for ur own good. anybody please support me to help this kid ?

guys im very sorry. I prob take this too seriously. My bad. Just that im concern if u r really that kinda of guy. There is a fren of mine with that type of thinking and yet he still suffers from that kinda virtuous thinking. The imagination skills is superb if u ask me, but somehow i feel so sorry for him to waste it on the wrong direction. Again im sorry but please if ur serious about that u shud get help by now ok.

More than that, he basically thinks the way u think. I believe we could label this fren of mine as "crazy". If u know behind the scenes about the matrix, u will understand like how some of the plots from the movie is taken from the reality. Hint: It's a religion that start with "J".

Yes u r rite. Thats why i were asking his age. For some level, there are always thing that limits our option. What im trying to say is, even if u invent something in today's world, u will need more than imagination to make it come true. I give u fibre optic widgets as example, there is a company named Licomm tech found an south korean guy age 44 years old with 3 phd in his hand. Currently he has like 33 pattern for enchanced fibre optic and hired by this Licomm tech. They vision is to make use of it to enchance internet connectivity like here in the US for game servers like CS 1.6, to play against west coast from east coast have 100+ ping latency. With the widgets, it will run smoothly at 1 ping latency. Unfortunately, they are not rich so they need funds from other to get listed in NYSE. Now the company is basically own by the rich who funded them. The other prob they couldnt find how to mass-produce it, it just too complicated. See even if u found new technology by now, u will need more skills to survive. My point was it is better he use his spare imagination to other skills. Note i always mention good thinking superb ideas, i do value that but just dont waste too much on ideas. ok ?

I support that kind of thinking if u realize, but i was just concern more on how to make use of it. Dont waste it. Keep up the good thinking and make the use of it.

My direct point would be there is a fine line that separates between dreams and goals. I want that kid to set goals, not just dreaming. Dreaming at night could be wonderful etc, but its useless. Goals are different we could clearly see it and celebrate it if we manage to achieve one. Hope this give u idea how i appreciate that kinda of thinking so much.
