i think he meant not Widescreen. I've played Gears of War using my Dell 24 inch widescreen monitor and using my Viewsonic 17inch monitor. I feel it is more satisfying to play using widescreen monitor since i believe most games are developed to be played on widescreen mode. But if you do not have any other option, playing using normal mode isn't that bad.

When I first bought the box, I tried it on my 17" LCD monitor on widescreen mode and I was very disappointed as the display is very small. I had to sit very close to the monitor to play the games.

Now I'm using a Dell 22" WS monitor and it is clearly much better experience. Next upgrade will be a 37"-40" LCD TV!

Get a decent widescreen monitor and my recommendation is minimum 19". Otherwise, I think you have not done justice to the Xbox 360!

I'm using a dell 20" widescreen ( the old 2005FPW model ) and it looked great. I'm using the 1360 x 768 resolution setting on my xbox. But there's a little gap on the left side of the screen but it doesn't bother me much.

at first i used the component, but i forgot what mode i chose, probably 1080i and then i switched to VGA connection at 1080p and have not looked back since. if you have that monitor just buy the xbox vga cable and you are good to go.

Depends on games. Some games detects your monitor as 1280x1024 and allows you to run games in widescreen mode with black bars on top and bottom. Only works with VGA cable.

not all 3rd party are bad... well at least for me the one i bought has no obvious setbacks, worked fine on my 17" and 20" LCD. some are good, some bad.. i was willing to take the risk coz is costed me like us$8 only, with delivery. but for guaranteed quality, buy the original MS VGA cable.

your LCD need to have dual inputs, VGA and DVI. feed VGA with 360 output, then DVI to the PC (meaning ur pc video card must hv DVI out lah). most LCD monitors have a button to quickly switch between inputs (some lack this button, function accessed via menu). if u lack of DVI input/outputs then u'd have to buy a KVM switch

If you have updated to the latest Spring 07 update, make sure to use Expanded Level to make your 22" image quality at it's best.

so it's normal for 3rd party VGA cables to pixelate a little bit?

most apparent on my Blue Dragon sad.gif

running it on a 17" CRT though tongue.gif will try VGA with my dad's 32" and see.

I don't think so, I've use 3rd party VGA on my Dell 2407, and it works fine. No any pixelate effect spoted, even on BD smile.gif

LCD monitors nowadays usually can accept 2 or more inputs - VGA, DVI, S Video, Composite and Component. So in order to use your computer and at the same time playing your game on xbox, your monitor has to have at least VGA and DVI connection. xbox goes to VGA, and pc to DVI. then you can just select which inputs your monitor should display.

i used to play xbox 360 on my Dell 24 inch but every time someone sent me a pm on MSN messenger or YM, i have to switch the input back and forth. can be a bit tiring to do that.

Dunno la. Maybe I got "golden eyes" or something. I've seen two 3rd party cables and it is just plain lousy.

Trust me man...if you do an actual test comparison (swapping cables), you will definitely see the difference!

Don't know now if the 3rd party cables are of higher quality, but hey...its not like the ori cables were that expensive to begin with...and come on...one game is RM169...ori cable is even cheaper than that!

Same here. They looked fine on CRT when you run on lower resolutions, but once you push it up to HD, boom, ghosting everywhere.

Swapped them to original cable, problem disappear.

I know this does not affect all 3rd party cables in the market, but to be safe, just stick with the original cable.

it depends on the cables itself and your monitor as well.

for example if you screen are too small (let say 17 inch) you can't see any differents. but for those who are above 20" people are starting to see the differents.

and yes there is a different third party and original cable.

original cable shielding are better.

well my take on this is
on my benq fp241w inch composite its just fantastic at 1080p
and at vga 1080p ... colour is not washed out but its not as sharp as composite.

on my pioneer pdp42xg plasma however again composite rules but limited to 1080i for composite, 768p for vga and only at hdmi i can get 1080 p.

so for now the benq rocks on composite.

Thats for sure, however just don't cross the vga cable wif other cable can help to improve the interference.
