Forumer you are complaining against: haigoboy

Phone number: +60 11-3900 9102 (Saiful)

Item being sold/bought: Traded iPhone 6S+ 64GB for iPhone 8+ 64GB MY set +top up

Original thread link: https://forum.lowyat.net/index.php?showtopic=4677706&hl=

Date of transaction: 25/10/2018

Details of the complaint:

I traded my iPhone 6S+ 64GB for his iPhone 8+ 64GB MY set +top up from my end. He Phone condition was fine during trade and so we swapped phones. Been using the phone fine except for an annoying thing happening which is YouTube and Spotify kept playing Indonesian ads when it's supposed to be a Malaysian phone and settings are all supposed to be local.

2 weeks on and the phone becomes faulty, unable to connect to network all of a sudden starting from 11/11. I contacted the guy through PM here and he said the warranty period is over, on 9/11 and that he has nothing to do with it anymore. Asked him to meet up and repair the phone but he doesn't want to and insisted that the phone was fine during trade that's all. His mobile number is not contactable since 7/11, however, he is still active in forum here.

"iPhone not Allowed". Looks like blocked contract or stolen phone. Confirm with your provider the reason why it's not allowed on their network.

went to a shop and tested on all network providers sim card and it's the same. network band can be detected on the phone but then "not allowed"

2 weeks to use a phone until it has problem is very very short, and the problem surfaced right after warranty period is very fishy. where did you get this phone from? how do you want to settle this issue since you were the previous owner? can you take up the repair costs?

That’s expected if it’s blocked. Doesn’t sound like a hardware problem. You can see the networks if you go manual right?

Like I said, call your provider to ask them why.

Btw, Indo ads in YouTube nothing to do with whether it’s a MY set or not. Don’t let that sidetrack you.

yeah i can see the networks, but being blocked on all networks is weird. i've already tried calling the network on the first day and they've reset it on their end also. i have another phone which works fine, when put the sim card onto this phone then it doesn't work.

It's a feature. Google SKMM/MCMC and Public Cellular Blocking Service (PCBS). Meant to block stolen phones and phones which are leased or under contract that has disappeared. Might be something else but why not rule this out first?

Exactly. Buy (eg: Maxis Zerolution) or lease (eg: Maxis Zerolution360). DiGi also got, get a new iPhone with no upfront payment then run away. Probably happens quite often. But the telco will get the phone blocked. I suppose can still use overseas.

No idea without knowing what you used to check. But it's the same thing. IMEI blocked. Ask your provider, they'll be able to tell you why it's blocked.

Similar case to yours. If you do a search here, you'll find a few other threads.

Have you check with your provider? If it's another problem then we're all barking up the wrong tree here.

TS first is it a Malaysia set or what?

There's always risk if you buy or trade phone online. Perhaps before you trade you should think twice, why would the trader trade his better iPhone 8 to your 6s? In any case you have the chance to check everything during COD. Phone broke down after 1 week of personal warranty by TS a bit unfortunate.
