for a stream server alone maybe if it can allow external storage to be attached.

but mac mini is still a full fresh computer, it can do things more than that, 16gb is certainly not enough. not even for os alone.

256gb is still sweater spot. min spot.

1) i3 4 core CPU is ok
2) 8 GB RAM is adequate. It is said that ram is user-upgradeable. But I’ll wait for ifixit to confirm this.
3) 128 GB is a bit tight if you want to use it as your main computer. But it’s enough for specialized tasks.

yes, 8GB ram is not a problem.

3.6GHz Quad-Core Processor
128 GB Storage
3.6GHz quad-core 8th-generation Intel Core i3 processor
8GB 2666MHz DDR4 memory
Intel UHD Graphics 630
128GB PCIe-based SSD storage1

seem promising the clock speed for the i3 although no turbo boost.

128gb ssd is too little, min 256gb to be usable. ideally 512gb.
ideally i think 256gb will be a sweet spot, can just use the mac mini with portable hardisk since it is not laptop that meant to be move around.

Processor with Turbo Boost up to 4.1GHz
256 GB Storage
3.0GHz 6-core 8th-generation Intel Core i5 processor
Turbo Boost up to 4.1GHz
8GB 2666MHz DDR4 memory
Intel UHD Graphics 630
256GB PCIe-based SSD storage1

depends on how much the price difference between the i5 and i3 model, it may be good to get the i5 model since if one add in 256gb ssd, the price is high to upgrade to 256gb for the i3 model.

i may consider the i3 model 256gb ssd if price is bigger gap to the base i5 model.

Mac mini will be available in US store today (tonight Malaysia time). Reviews start coming out today from established tech sites. By tomorrow we should be getting more reviews and teardown. It looks like the base model i3 performance is really good.

Some said upgrade the RAM by ourself won't void the warranty.

I had made call to APPLE line. The man is unsure for the very detail. He only can answer bring my RAM and asked Apple technician to install. Not sure the act is to avoid warranty broken or damage the unit.

I eventually will upgrade the RAM. If it will void the warranty with my act. There's no point I spent on extended warranty anymore.

I feel like that is not necessary to bring into the apple shop as the procedure is quite do-able.

What do you guys thinks?
