why is it so troublesome to spend money in china?
they don't accept cash and they make it difficult to go cashless

any other way?

Alipay and WeChat pay works for me 99%of the time. But need to used to it for example select bus or mrt and download digital bus card in different city. And install different mini program in WeChat for different bike rental companies.
Bring some cash  especially smaller change like 1/5/10/20..can pay cash but they retailer may not have small chances.

what about TnG?

what you're saying is for individual right?
what about 1 payment mode that i can use for the whole family?

I didn't try tng. I think previous posts have someone said no problem.  Btw, WeChat pay success rate is higher than alipay.
Hotel online credit card booked. The rest of the spending all qrcode alipay or WeChat. I only use cash at first arrival for mrt as I didn't know how to configure alipay for mrt. Once I figured out, basically while trip cash free.

I would suggest all of the family member have a smart phone with digital payment mode installed.

i would hope so too but i still need to at least represent my mom too which don't think she can handle it
so my payment at least have to cover 2 person

Please try and let us know the exchange rate

I think the cheapest rate is still cash
But don't think it's advisable to change tons of cash going there
I'm still contemplating on whether to go ask those money changer do they have small CNY note as well...change it as backup

he also didn't know....reached china, one if his CE powerbank is confiscated...left his other CCC powerbank can go through

so it means it's already in effect so don't risk bringing CE powerbank omboard unless u want it confiscated

Overseas distributed visa/mastercard credit card/debit card can be used to just tap on their subway train
best to have paywave chip and activated as well

This is funny.
Once you've attached a foreign card, your Alipay will work. There is no need to go through third party just to verify. If all else fails just use your touch n go.
*
but i saw some american also made videos that they registered alipay/wechatpay, verified it and attached their credit card on it and it doesn't work
they even give the shop owner the phone to go at it
at the end still pay via cash
that's why such services exist for a reason

Ohh nice! I am going to Guangzhou/HK/Macau in November too! For the payment I will be linking my Wechat Pay with either Youtrip or Wise card, I assume wont be any issue with that. Which Roaming Sim did you bought?
*
try this

it has number, data and VPN(if you opt for the VPN)
you activate using an APP and inside the app, u can pay a small fee to retain the number forever
meaning you can reuse the sim card over and over again

Do you guys experience hotel at Shanghai shutting down central Aircon?

I went Shanghai on April and the hotel does not allow Aircon in the room and I was asked to open the window
*
where is this hotel located at and is it like really cheap for this to happen?

never been there yet but i do know their hotels and rooms allowed smoking, there's no way they just ask guest to open window

is there similar review on their agoda's page?

I stay at both Atour Hotel (financial center, Lujiazui) and Four Points by Sheraton Shanghai, Daning. Both hotels shutoff their central aircon to the room at April and we're given a small fan and asked to open the window after complaint...

Same for my mom who went shanghai with tours in May this year... Not sure if there government rules not allow the hotel to switch on the aircon if lower than certain temperature
*
seem like it is true afterall...you're not the 1st to complain about it

Talks about smoking in the room, I choose non-smoking room from Agoda booking but I really don't know if I will get one or not. I don expect much as its just a budget hotel.

My sister kind of booked flight ticket with a random date without much research, only to found out the date we going is just nice Canton Fair 2025 @ Guangzhou. All the decent hotel either fully booked very early or price went up 2x-3x.  shakehead.gif
*
if not wrong you will get a non-smoking room
but the whole hotel is smoking allowed meaning the hall way will be smoking allowed so u will still smell it

I prefer to use use Malaysian telco's roaming package, if the price is not too much difference. No need VPN to use FB or Whatsapp and some gives you several minutes of free calls from home etc.
*
i don't think the price is even near...i cannot speak for other telco
but i've check with my yoodo basically celcomdigi....the roaming alone(not including data yet) is RM120 for 7 days rclxub.gif
i had to pay more for data

compare to what this link is offering...this link offered data, number, VPN for RM37
and with that number i can attached it onto my alipay and maybe finally register for wechat
and thn attach that number to dianping and meituan and i can receive OTP
