Hi all, would like to ask :
As I am using u mobile U98 package, it has 63 countries data roaming that include China (China Mobile 4G, China Unicon 4G / 5G).
Tour leader from MY said U mobile not good, but the 2 telco listed above are the biggest in China, should be ok right ?

QUOTE(joshhd @ May 20 2024, 01:27 PM) Once you're already in China and you are using U Mobile postpaid plan's free roaming, you will be connected to either China Mobile or China Unicom already, so what is the "not good" part here? Ask that tour leader. He said phone can get connected to internet, but super slow speed. I was very doubtful about this statement, because it will be hooking up with the 2 biggest telcos already.

QUOTE(adele123 @ Jun 9 2024, 10:07 PM) I know this is probably late. But i think it feels slow because it's mini apps within alipay international. I see the chinese (using alipay chinese version) takes abit faster to pay but not as fast as i imagine either. Educated guess. No prove. But want to say roaming on maxis works fine for us. Came back dy, happy to report that U mobile was absolutely flying in China. Most place with full bar 4G+, which is already very ok for me. And as we are using data roaming, no China's Great firewall block on FB and whatsapp etc. At least for all the places in Yun Nan I visited.

QUOTE(tatmeng @ Jun 19 2024, 09:27 PM) You visit which part in Yunnan? Need to bring cash? You may bring a bit, I reckon about RMB 1k per person will do, most people or outlets have either Wechat QR code or Alipay QR code, and many have both. So you may use TnG ewallet to pay under Alipay. For wechat pay you need to reload certain amount before you can use it, if not mistaken.

QUOTE(joshhd @ Jun 20 2024, 01:39 PM) TnG ewallet will charge additional 1% foreign transaction fee if you use it to make QR payments in China, isn't it? How about using the dedicated Alipay app, and link it with debit card like Wise or GXBank? The exchange rate is the same, isn't it? As long don't exceed RMB 300 to avoid surcharges? I don't really see that 1% charge in my transaction history. Overall it's about RM0.66 to RMB1.00 I paid. Maybe it's embedded in. For me just don't care la, afterall I did not use a lot of money in China.

QUOTE(anthraxxxx @ Aug 22 2024, 05:29 PM) Did your speed drop? Because some people claimed their speed dropped after hitting daily quota. No speed drop, my package gives me 15GB international data roaming per month. For that 1 week in China both me and wife used up a total of 11GB.
