Erm...maybe yes , I am not a gamer though , but someone able to play C&C 3 with low setting with GMA 950.8600m GT is similar with 7600 GT , so if games can run smoothly at 7600 GT , it'll be able too at 8600m GT.Make sure you have 2GB ram to Battlefield. smile.gif

It'll have a limit if your setting too high in game and create 1000 tanks for C&C3.I am not sure the limit but maybe you try and ask at gaming forum what's the limit of AMD 3800 with 7600GT in gaming.Maybe you can get some answer

skevelim , I'd like to ask something , do you feel any light leakage on their laptop screen ? does those laptop improve without much reflection on their Truelife or grossy screen ? I'm not sure whether you're able to view it at that moment but hope to have someone verify it.

Thanks for the answer.I am still wonder whether they improve the Truelife anti-reflective screen.Hope anyone saw owns a dell Truelife can give some comment. But weird , why she say Truelife good for long time use ?

QUOTE(derred @ Jul 15 2007, 05:33 PM)
I think she meant it is good for long time session like a straight 5 hours staring ur screen perhaps. Truelife means glossy screen. It can be used like mirror bcoz at some angle some brightness (like black screen) could reflect ur image and it is quite annoying some time. Sometimes its a cool effect. Non-Truelife will not reflect anything but the screen will be dull-looking and not as shiny as Truelife.

kingmax,

sorry I thot u need something like laptop skins so.. my bad.

Laptop sticker ? oh... my previous post , is ok smile.gif , I also plan to get a laptop sticker.I was asking whether some desktop modding have base color sticker for cutting edge.If not do you know any lowyat shop selling those sticker ?

But one thing, for 1420 rite, the highest spec GC i can select is only 8400 GS. Cant select the 8600 GT. There is no option for this. Why? coz the laptop size too small? But I like small lappies...

Advice please...
*
They can fit 8600m GT but they can't risk having their laptop burn due to the heating issue such as last batch. They redesign their laptop and thicker to balance the heating and bang for the buck of build quality.
That's why you can even see they only have DDR2 for 8600m GT.

Not very hot really, I left FEAR running for about 3 hours straight...on the wrist rest, a tad bit warm. But putting it on my lap i feel the heat though... tongue.gif
I like the keyboard, very sturdy.

Don't know why though, after booting up Vista....the hard disk activity is still goin on and on and on....even after the updates and all were installed and configured.
Most of the time it's just clicking away. Hmmm...anyone any software to check HDD activities?
*
It'll go on for a week or so until they store all your desktop activities season. You wouldn't be suprise within a week vista window size increase 1-2GB.

I'd like to ask , what's the temp of your graphic card after playing straight 3 hours gaming ? What about the battery ? how long does it last ?

hehehehe, I wrote like that because I read some of the previous posts saying that there is going be some delay in delivery for colour other than white and black. In addition, On the page where customer can do the customize their order. There is a notice after the white colour option:
» Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... «

Shot at 2007-07-17

In my opinion, the location of the notice is a bit confusing. There are two assumptions that I can think of:
1. There is going to be delay in delivery  for white color
OR
2.  There is going to be delay in delivery for colour other than white and black...

Ok lah, I just wait patiently for the order to arrive... biggrin.gif
*
The website isn't that update whether which color in stock. They'll only update weekly not daily. The best is to call them and ask.

I'm facing the problem with the sound driver with the XP. the sound driver for the 1520 model is SigmaTel STAC 92XX C-Major HD Audio (Rev:A03)

I've found quite a lot of driver but it all fails. It states "Device Object not present, restart the system and run the setup again". And other will finish off installation and state "Audio maintenance completed successfully", but still after restart, Still no sound.

SIGMATEL !!! How come the audio driver so difficult to configure?????
*

For those who can't successfully install the sound driver , try installing this Dell Latitude - R153908 Sound XP driver
http://support.us.dell.com/support/downloa...0&fileid=205136

For those who plan to install window xp , there's the driver pack up.

Yes, vostro is missing some items like the webcam and the little fancy stuff which could be bought from other companies. As for the OS, i choosed the cheapest for vostro cause personally I won't be using the OS that comes together. I wish they would offer 512mb ram haha, that way can save more money.

Now, if only there are 17" vostros available.

Yo dude if you dont mind i have a few questions for you.
When received the laptop, what tests should I do to ensure that everything is working fine? (my 1520 has webcam and bluettooth as well)
Next i plan to use ONLY XP not dual OS. So how do I do so. I have sufficient experience for desktops but none for laptops.
To change the OS, what do i do first? What are the drivers that I need?
This is my plan;
Format whole laptop.
Install XP.
Install drivers for:
RAID(necessary since SATA HDD right?)
Chipset
LAN card
Audio
Graphic Card
USB ports
How about the modem, bluetooth, webcam and the card reader? Media Connect?
*
Modem is included on the pack.Do you really still using dial-up ?

The bluetooth is in the pack with chipset.

Webcam driver
http://support.us.dell.com/support/downloa...0&fileid=214672

card reader is on the pack too.R141246.

Mind I ask , did you actually try the driver??? dry.gif

As for Window Media Connect , do you still need it where Dell already provide Media Direct 3.3.

There is no 100% driver release on Dell Insprion 1X20.Those driver are the effort from users digging one by one and test every working driver. If you really desperate on getting 100% XP driver , you can kindly call dell to provide xp disc or driver download link.

They'll release the driver soon. There's also a way to get the driver. If I am not mistaken , Vostro that provide XP option for thier OS is actually using some same driver as Insprion.Maybe someone that order a Vostro 1500 model able to provide those driver.

Nope , I haven't got my laptop yet.Erm.. actually I haven't tested it yet , not sure whether it's complete or not as I see through the driver , it already pack with some of the most important driver. If you find something missing after you install , just reply and I will check out.
What do you mean 'use the media direct ' ? It's preinstall already and so with the recovery partition except you formated it.You need partition and install the Media Direct first before install window xp.The recovery ....did you back up ? It's just a recovery in case you have problem with your vista.

having sound problem ? did you try other songs ? I am not sure with it , but if the sound still jerk maybe you can call out dell tech to find it out.

p/s soli le I 1st time use laptop ask me desktop no problem le but laptop... a little headache...
*
I can't make sure 100% all driver will work well.As for not , it's still not safe to install XP where more of the driver doesn't listed at their 1520 driver menu. Those pack are taken from previous Dell laptop model piece by piece which use the same hardware set.
Just try and play around with Vista until a full set of driver is release. If you really plan to change to Xp , quite a lot of work need to be done.
If you don't mind I ask , Why you plan to install window XP ? software compatibility issue or not familiar with vista skin ?

My arriving point is whether there's a need to use all of Pro software Word/Excel /Powerpoint/ Outlook with Business Contact Manager/Publisher/Access.Lets having a random calculatation.Assuming Rm594 to RM 600 divide by 6 software which equal to RM100 per application.Do you actually use 5/6 of it at lease once a week ?
Indeed not much user pefer using legal software because price/per usage isn't equalvelent .The maximun future proof you should invest should be 3 years , not too much.
Anyhow it's up to your decision whether you really want to obtain the MS office pro 2007.Just inform Dell and the SA incharge to include it. smile.gif

or at least wait for Vostro to come out with its XP version and take its drivers?
or just go for goal right now?
*
Depends whether are you in a rush or needs to install the application for your usage. If you really need to use the software to do your daily works report or college assignment then go for the Goal.
Frist , I'd suggest you to call for Dell tech to assist you installing window XP.Actually there are some forumer that successfully install XP , maybe you can pm them.I haven't get my laptop yet so I can't provide precise guidelines , sorry about that.
Mostly those important driver had been uploaded such as wireless , chipset , graphic driver and etc. You'll be able to run your laptop with less driver problem but not fully functional though.I found some step install window XP by some other forums but haven't tested it myself , that's why I can't actually provide full process installing support if anything goes wrong.Sorry about that sad.gif

Means you can't even enter window ? Here and try this.

1.
Go to safe mode at vista
When you are enter at window vista safe mode
Start > right click My Computer icon > Properties > Advanced tab > Settings button under Startup and Recovery > remove the check mark next to Automatically Restart

Then restart again at normal window vista. If BSOD comes out , write down the error example "STOP: 0x0000001A"

For more refer here http://forum.lowyat.net/topic/346230

2.
Go to safe mode at vista
When you are enter at window vista safe mode
Go C:\Windows\Minidump\ (not sure whether it save there) .Copy all the minidump
Post here , or install a minidump analysis on other XP or vista computer and analys it .( http://www.microsoft.com/whdc/devtools/deb...ng/default.mspx )
You can even post at http://forum.lowyat.net/topic/346230 if you don't understand what it say.
