Hands itchy to get Mate 20 from Sen Heng with extra one year warranty.

Any reasons why I shouldn't get Mate 20?

Mate 20 Pro out of budget.

All inputs are appreciated!
*
Honor View 20 is now available, at cheaper price.

The main different is the rear camera. Other specs almost the same.

Honor is a brand under Huawei too.

Ya... Bought.
Went to pyramid, got quote for retail price 3199,but gets mate20 free gift bluetooth speaker, a huawei weight machine, 1 stylus and flip case. A tempered glass and x-one back case.
*
You get the red plastic Bluetooth speaker, or the stone Bluetooth speaker?

If stone one then very nice gift.

The red one also come with selfie stick and ring in the box.

Inferior to the other 2 variants (20 pro and X) but seems like i am leaning most to it lol

The video below has done a pretty good comparison among the 20, 20pro, 20rs and 20x.

Price drop maybe lower?

For normal usage camera wise when compare to my bro mate 20 pro and sis mate 20x, more less the same.

And for view 20? No external card, is a no no for me.
*
Well, have to take note that the external card of mate 20 series is different and not compatible from normal SD card for most other phones.

I gone through this video before I decided to buy which one of them. Couldn't find such a detail comparison article or video in English, presented the same way in simple and easy to understand comparison tables.

There is also similar comparison table in pamphlet available at Huawei store in shopping malls, but not as detail. There are also specs comparison websites, but information might not be 100% correct, and the comparison also quite on surface only.

Well, HW Mate 20 series main USP against other competitors is its AI in HiVision, which you can open from Hi Search (swipe down in Home Screen, the icon at the right of Search bar) or from Camera (Photo mode, left most top icon).

In HiVision, under Translate mode, while playing the video, put your phone in front of the screen, all the text will instantly become English smile.gif

HiVision also can be used to scan QR code or barcode, check the price in online mall (so far I only see Shopee though) for the object you are pointing the camera to, or to identify the object you are pointing the camera to (will give calory count on identified food items).

Note: If your online mall is showing Pound price instead of Ringgit, probably your default language is English (UK), you need to change to English and select Malaysia to be English (Malaysia) in Language & Input > Language Preferances. Can keep the English (UK) as secondary in the list.

For audio translate, can use the bundled Translator app. Use the microphone icon to capture the audio, the translation will show in text on the screen. However, the result is about the same as Google Translate, sentence will be weird, but should be good enough to figure out the meaning smile.gif

Stupid ques - can i place the m20/m20p/20x on a samsung wireless charger for it to charge? laugh.gif
*
Only mate 20 pro has wireless charging (and reverse wireless charging) feature.

Mate 20 / 20x not support wireless charging.

The oil paint effect in pictures is just like any other phone (iPhone X, Xs, Xs Max all have it).
It's the way they process pictures unlike Google/HTC flagship phones with a different camera algorithm.

You will only notice it when you really zoom in as in 200% or more.
It's not a dealbreaker.
*
Portrait mode will have a lot of AI processing, and user adjustable settings to the level of processing.

Switch to Photo mode or Pro mode will be more natural.

Ah yea, that's true.

So technically there is no way of seeing free RAM right?

So far have been very smooth experience.

6 GB ram is more than enough for me biggrin.gif
*
It is under Settings > System > Developer Options > Memory

Will show you memory usage in last 3 hours, 6 hours, 12 hours, 1 day.

You can also install Device Info HW app below. Will show you a lot of things about the phone.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?...7e.deviceinfohw

You will be surprised that although you have plenty of RAM, the phone will allocate 2GB of swap and will actually utilize few hundred MB of the swap space.

My TP is having problem with the stock TPU case.

Without the case, there is no bubble. When case on, one corner will have bubble. Reapplied the TP many times, only managed to minimize it.

I wonder if this problem can be fixed by changing case.

Hi all, I plan to change my phone ( was using Huawei P9) and considering to change to either Mate 20 or Mate 20X...

I like the Mate 20 X because of the camera resolution but the size and the price point makes me wonder if it's really worth it.

Any opinion on whether I should get Mate 20 X or Mate 20 should be fine.
*
Note that Mate 20 and Mate 20X has the same display resolution of 1080p. At bigger screen, Mate 20X has lower ppi than Mate 20, which mean it is more likely to see pixelated image in Mate 20X screen. But, Mate 20X has OLED screen, and Mate 20 is using IPS screen.

Mate 20 Pro has the highest display resolution and OLED screen.

small update for m20

user posted image

This is version 9.0.0.183 patch05.

I think the latest update is version 9.0.0.195 related to AI Color mode.

"The ‘AI color’ mode allows you to take a video with the background in greyscale and the subject in color. As a result, even when the subject moves, the color goes with them."

Not yet rolled out to Malaysia?

Hey guys, I'm always a iPhone and Samsung owner, wanted to try out Huawei for the sake of trying new thing. Any existing Samsung owner here can roughly let us know the main different between Samsung and Huawei? or all android created equally?
*
The key differences:
1. Battery quality - Huawei uses high grade battery, while Samsung used to use low grade battery until the Note 7 explode cases. Now they use better battery than before, but Huawei's battery still better. You will feel more different after use for 1 year later, Samsung battery will be weaker and weaker in holding charge.

2. Memory card - Huawei Mate 20 series use proprietary memory card, while Samsung uses standard microSD card. Huawei's memory card share the same slot with SIM2, if you use a memory card, you cannot use dual SIM. In this case, Samsung wins. However, avoid using external memory card in your phone, as the read/write speed of external memory card is much slower than the internal storage of the phone. Using external memory card will drag down your phone storage read/write speed. (You can install a benchmark app and run the storage read/write speed test on the same phone, with external memory card in it and without external memory card, to see the different)

3. Fast charging - Samsung S10 charging of 15W max is very slow compared with most of the flagship phones in 2018/2019. One advantage of Huawei fast charging against others is its compatibility with Qualcomm standard. You can still fast charge your Huawei phone at nice speed using 3rd party charger and 3rd party 5V data cable that complies with Qualcomm fast charging standard (such as Belkin, Aukey, Anker, UGreen, ...) Latest OnePlus fast charging is faster than Huawei, but OnePlus can only fast charge using own charger and cable. If you use 3rd party, the charging speed on OnePlus become ordinary charge, even slower than Samsung fast charge.

4. Mobile network interoperability - Huawei Mate 20 series support a wide variety of mobile network 2G/3G/4G bands. If you travel a lot to other countries, you don't have to worry about unsupported band used in other country, your phone still can be used either with roaming or local SIM card.

5. GPS interoperability - Huawei Mate 20 series support dual-band GPS and all kinds of satellite positioning systems.

6. AI features - can play around the AI features especially with the camera - face unlocking, identify objects, show calorie of foods, real-time translate on text your camera is pointing at (very handy feature to read restaurant menu in foreign language), avatar creation, ...

7. Speakers - I think Samsung phone speakers are louder with better sound quality.

For point 4 & 5 above, can refer to the specs for list of supported bands:
https://consumer.huawei.com/en/phones/mate20-pro/specs/

Thanks for agree. Because some people still bs about processor.... Ram.... High end device almost similar performance.
*
Well, talking about processor, Mate 20 series are the first in the world using 7nm processor while others are still using 10nm or above. Lower nm means less heat produce and less battery consumption.

Anyhow, I think all major flagship phones in 2019 will join the 7nm processor bandwagon. Let's see if Huawei will launch the world's first 5nm processor phone in near future.

ONE UI, MIUI

and

EMUI

Those are different tier.

EMUI is not as polish as above.

I personally think that S10+ is better than Mate 20 Pro. The only lacking part is the IR Blaster.

Nowadays mid range phone battery life is best compared with high end model. I am talking about Redmi note series, Redmi Max series, Asus Zenphone Max Pro series, Honor Max series.

High end model packed with more stuff, but battery life is not as good as mid range model.
*
EMUI and the default SwiftKey keyboard are 2 main weaknesses of Huawei phones.

EMUI 9 is much better than before, but still lack of official dark theme and choices of official fonts.

Btw celaka I'm so tempted to return my mate 20 pro and buy that mate X

Its really revolutionary.... I'm really curious on how the hinge works
*
I think Mate X will be naked without any case and SP for a while.

And its price will position it similar to iPhone when first launched - for premium owner smile.gif
