Hey guys, I'm always a iPhone and Samsung owner, wanted to try out Huawei for the sake of trying new thing. Any existing Samsung owner here can roughly let us know the main different between Samsung and Huawei? or all android created equally?
The key differences:
1. Battery quality - Huawei uses high grade battery, while Samsung used to use low grade battery until the Note 7 explode cases. Now they use better battery than before, but Huawei's battery still better. You will feel more different after use for 1 year later, Samsung battery will be weaker and weaker in holding charge.
2. Memory card - Huawei Mate 20 series use proprietary memory card, while Samsung uses standard microSD card. Huawei's memory card share the same slot with SIM2, if you use a memory card, you cannot use dual SIM. In this case, Samsung wins. However, avoid using external memory card in your phone, as the read/write speed of external memory card is much slower than the internal storage of the phone. Using external memory card will drag down your phone storage read/write speed. (You can install a benchmark app and run the storage read/write speed test on the same phone, with external memory card in it and without external memory card, to see the different)
3. Fast charging - Samsung S10 charging of 15W max is very slow compared with most of the flagship phones in 2018/2019. One advantage of Huawei fast charging against others is its compatibility with Qualcomm standard. You can still fast charge your Huawei phone at nice speed using 3rd party charger and 3rd party 5V data cable that complies with Qualcomm fast charging standard (such as Belkin, Aukey, Anker, UGreen, ...) Latest OnePlus fast charging is faster than Huawei, but OnePlus can only fast charge using own charger and cable. If you use 3rd party, the charging speed on OnePlus become ordinary charge, even slower than Samsung fast charge.
4. Mobile network interoperability - Huawei Mate 20 series support a wide variety of mobile network 2G/3G/4G bands. If you travel a lot to other countries, you don't have to worry about unsupported band used in other country, your phone still can be used either with roaming or local SIM card.
5. GPS interoperability - Huawei Mate 20 series support dual-band GPS and all kinds of satellite positioning systems.
6. AI features - can play around the AI features especially with the camera - face unlocking, identify objects, show calorie of foods, real-time translate on text your camera is pointing at (very handy feature to read restaurant menu in foreign language), avatar creation, ...
7. Speakers - I think Samsung phone speakers are louder with better sound quality.
For point 4 & 5 above, can refer to the specs for list of supported bands:
