I thought Huawei smartphone selling in Malaysia are cheaper than those Western country?
*
Yeah. Subsidized. Samsung used to do that too. Not sure about nowadays...not following Samsung price anymore since I have no interest in Galaxy anymore.

Having said that the Huawei price has gone up so much and it's now directly competing against the iPhone. blink.gif

yes …
Note 9 launch at rm 3699 pre-order.
Now after 1 month, u can get Note 9 for RM 2600++ (SME version).
*
Seems like Samsung RV is really bad! It wasn't as bad during S8 time. ohmy.gif

Mate 20 pro looks awesome especially the camera optics and  features but don know about the price here. Above 3.3k a definite no go for me no matter how awesome.
*
I think definitely above RM3.3k RRP. Mate 10 Pro launched at RM3099 leh.

Really tempted to get Mate 20!!

But wife gonna be angry cos I just changed phone!
*
What's your current phone? lol

QUOTE(zeronova @ Oct 21 2018, 11:21 PM)
anyone knows if it's possible to disable the "beauty mode" in the camera settings? played around with a mate 20 pro today, really impressed with the phone but the "beauty mode" is putting me off, even when the slider is at the most left, it's still present
*
Beauty mode in front facing couldn't be turned off in P20 series. It's the major gripe. Quite sure Mate 20 also same.

yalor, adreno always tops out mali when playing graphic intensive games.  hmm.gif

i currently use oneplus 5t, great gaming performance! only complaint is the speakers suck and the position suck!

however i was a huawei mate 8 user, and i miss the knock and knuckle shortcuts.  cry.gif i also still using a huawei mediapad m3 for watching videos and games.

both mate 8 and mediapad m3 uses same kirin 950, and they both are not great at playing heavy graphics games.
*
Not really. The OnePlus implementation for taking screenshot is much better. Knock and knuckle is damn tedious and inaccurate. Who the heck thought of that idea...

Huawei Mate 20 Pro vs Samsung Galaxy Note 9 Camera Test Comparison!

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QUmoTujgXlM
*
Too bad nowadays there's this annoying trend of comparing camera performance using compressed video (Youtube). It's the wrong tool to begin with, but it's where the $ is. The past 1 year I notice lesser and lesser proper photography articles done on a normal website.

QUOTE(leongsem @ Oct 23 2018, 12:53 AM)
i will hold my horse until it drop less than 3k
btw normal mate 20 got marco
*
That would be when P30 series is coming, with the same chipset but with one or two minor update and smaller screen. lol

QUOTE(jhleo1 @ Oct 23 2018, 06:22 AM)
Am I see it correctly? RM3049 not even officially in the market already dropped price?

https://s.lazada.com.my/s.2cq2
*
Definitely a scam. Lazada is a tainted marketplace nowadays. One obvious give away is the scammer would ask you to "Whatsapp me to deal" so that the money won't go through Lazada platform.

QUOTE(VeeJay @ Oct 24 2018, 03:13 PM)
ya...mate used to be wider version of phone....personally I'm looking for a slim phone, since I carry it on a belt pouch, hence looking at P20p or m20p. Compared to my wifey mate9 is way much more wider
*
That's because the Mate series just migrated to tall aspect ratio. P series already migrated. That's why you suddenly find why Mate is not as wide.

QUOTE(juneong @ Oct 24 2018, 04:56 PM)
Those day No money so buy Huawei, now no money to buy Huawei.
*
Haha deep.
BTW, not buying? M20P has emerald green too leh.

QUOTE(kernel123 @ Oct 24 2018, 06:52 PM)
i did compare the result of both phones at huawei shop.mate 20 shot seems blurrier and smoothening effect more prominent than pro.not sure either this is due to screen resolution or the camera quality itself being different
*
Interesting. P20 Pro's 10MP vs P20's 12MP output, actually the P20 gives more details lol. I wonder how M20 series fare.

Can someone explain why the speakers on m20pro is so soft?

At max volume and i am not charging but volume is really really soft for stereo speakers.

Other than that, its a fantastic phone.
*
Because the louder speaker was supposedly the bottom one but they removed the grill and put in USB-C? And the earpiece is not loud enough. Viola...innovation. smile.gif

Another green tint analysis compared with Galaxy Note 8

I compared my Mate 20 Pro with my friend Galaxy Note 8.

Guess what...

Mate 20 Pro have Green Tint
Galaxy Note 8 have Red Tint

[attachmentid=10099541]
[attachmentid=10099542]

dry.gif  sweat.gif  hmm.gif
So, it looks like LG have different way to handle the low brightness compared with Samsung.

Below is the photo that took using my iPad Pro. In a complete dark room.
Please note that the photo looks much more obvious than naked eye due to auto long exposure.

The different is not as much as you see in the photo. Especially the screen "evenness". LG OLED looks not as smooth/even Samsung OLED. Well, if the Mate 20 Pro cost RM 4599, I am pretty sure we can get same smooth/even OLED quality.

Hope it helps to answer you guys some doubts.
Below is one of the Mate 20 Pro green tint issue video explain I saw in Youtube last night. The good things about the video is the reviewer he tune down the exposure time of recording camera to show you what's the naked eye view.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UomsgPL4OaI
*
The actual issue on the Huawei Mate 20 Pro is the green tint on edges. The Samsung pic you showed is not the same issue because the whole screen is consistent.

QUOTE(jhleo1 @ Nov 9 2018, 09:30 AM)
The phone got warranty but just that Huawei after service is suck. This is what I told my friends now. Currently using android phone? If so, then should be ok.
*
Huawei used to give 1-to-1 warranty during P9 and P10 era. It sucks that they have increased the price since then and dropping that service. mad.gif

QUOTE(e_mc_square @ Nov 9 2018, 09:32 AM)
Mate 20 is LCD screen. Should be ok.
*
LCD normally have screen bleeding (white backlight leaking onto the edge). Not sure Mate 20 has it or not.

Here a bit correction.
As end user, i don think normal people care whar brand display that use, as long the display have consistent performance and meet the advertisement.

Huawei is multi billions business.(earn multi b and lost multi b)
So they need admit the problem.
Like apple admit intel modem cause signal issue. Samsung note 7 case also cost them a lot, so till now they play safe on battery side.

Even the problem cause by LG ( if BOE too), that was huawei internal problem. They sue display panel's company or not wasn't end user problem....
*
It seems Huawei managed to get away. Remember the NAND flash memory lottery with P10 series?

I'm m20x owner for 1 week, but now feel a bit uneasy with the size, feel like changing to pro. But still thinking because I really love watching Netflix, playing games, and the speaker sound is incredibly incredible.

Just feel not convinient to text while driving. And feel a bit insecure when sexting in public as people can see clearly what I'm doing with the phone.
*
Er... Don't tell me you wasn't aware how big is the phone before buying it lol

i have enough with this phone....

Conlusion, huawei nowday done f*king good job. well done.
Additional:
Only happen on FP unlock. Facial unlock no problem.
*
That's bad. I had P10 and I felt the overall experience wasn't flagship level compared to Samsung etc at that time. I had skipped P20 and now Mate 20 seems to be worse.

QUOTE(josh5671 @ Nov 23 2018, 09:35 AM)
See how later la...
Because SC insist change screen on green tint + blackspot issue i mention last week (they need 4-5hours show they wanna change screen)

I can just waste 3k like my sony z5 premium. I try hold 1 year on this moron phone and switch to other and no more came back.

Or they steady enough for 1 on 1 or direct refund. (This i believe wont happen)
*
Just wondering do we need to reproduce the receipt if wanna RMA via Huawei SC?

Asked and they need me sent SC via shop for repair. No refund will be make..i think even repair will fix all. Will be nono for future huawei phone.
*
Ask how long does it take to repair?
You can ask for courtesy phonet? Say you are paying for the phone and now stranded in SC for n weeks.

What about the water resistance? Still working after open?

Record the phone conversation and let them know. Bring to tribunal if needed.

They promise water resistant wont compromise. But you know. Their promise usually wont '100' as my second point.

After that last call. In 10 minute they call back. They can make 1 to 1 if me bring to SC myself. And about 2hours checked no problem(drop,water...etc..) then 1 to 1 without asking.

Any fishy here?
*
Sounds good actually because they phoned back after saying no. Means they knew it's risking their reputation or the issue is quite wide spread. I think you get what you want, which is good.

1 to 1 which i planned to. Because i ask the shop forward my idea after they say no.
1 on 1 or refund. Surely they 1 on 1.

Hopefully second unit no problem, i will go there next week or early dec.
*
I just checked Huawei warranty terms and conditions. It says the ownership is not transferable. Means second hand = no warranty! ohmy.gif

think this refer to any unit that has been sent in for repair, as only then will they be able to register your name to the unit via imei. the next owner won't have the same privilege anymore if they send the same unit for servicing, as the record won't match.
*
But then when you bought a used set, how do you know it's been sent before? 😅

Wah... To be honest. I'll jump ship too if I faced same problem like you.

I think beside Samsung and Apple, all other phone retailer in Malaysia just too evil. Few years ago, I bought a Xperia Z1 from Senheng. They also give me a "repacked" unit luckily I saw a big scratch on the back of the phone when open box. Then I ask them give me another unit.
*
Actually Apple also gives refurbished/repackaged units when RMA sweat.gif

QUOTE(f1br3opt1c @ Nov 23 2018, 11:30 PM)
Problem is I switched from iPhone to S7 Edge. Then my screen had dead pixel but I didn't know little girly Samsung will void your warranty once you root your phone. I thought it was similar as jailbreaking iPhone and can format back when any issue need to warranty. So i was stuck with that screen cause they wouldn't let me claim warranty. Battery life sucked as well.

So I decided to give Samsung another try and went to note 8. Camera still sucked, phone is not smooth at all even with simply stuff such as browsing Facebook. Battery life charge full morning and by 4pm need to charge again.

Huawei mate 20 Pro is just perfect. Super smooth with a great camera and one morning charge lasts me till I wake up next morning with usually 5% left. I don't have faith in any other android brands so my only sage choice is to go back to the boring iPhone 😭
*
Note 8 camera sucked? Are you sure?

The issue is apple refurbish will tell you upfront and they will do it properly. No screen bulging out like 8months pregnant. Not dodgy like huawei say getting new phone but giving refurbished. Secondly I've used 2 iPhone each for over 2 years since ip4 and never had to warranty anything a single time.

Yes note 8 camera sucks to the max. Their portrait mode?probably will work properly if you got studio lighting all around your subject. Normal lighting like cheebai start blurring the persons ears and face.

I try getting my wife to change from her iPhone 7 to android but that day she told me "ya lo I used to see your note 8 photo and think why it sucks" but she didn't wanna tell me and make me sad. After she saw my Huawei she ready to switch now to huawei. Keep take my phone and use the camera but too bad happen this quality issue.
*
Either your unit got issue or you don't know how to control the camera sweat.gif

It's far from suck.
