HI Just a quick question. Is it advisable to upgrade the complimentary modem - EC230 to DIR 882. I think with the RM100 discount, only need to pay additional RM250 for DIR-882. Is it really worth it?

One thing I prefer is to set up different DNS for different SSID. I am using smartdnxproxy for streaming and i would prefer a dedicated SSID for streaming. Does both the modem support this function?..thanks in advance

short answer: for your case, yes

Long answer: modem / router / wifi AP, nowadays are considered already very matured technology (thankfully), hardware wise one brand and other are not much different (if in the same spec of course). The main difference is the Firmware. I honestly dislike the EC230-G1 for this reason. It is by all mean a capable basic router, but the firmware is locked; it is sold as bundled with service provider which makes difficult or nearly impossible to find custom firmware.
If I know this router firmware is locked, I'd top up ;or even sell it new and get own router ;there are other routers in the market which support openwrt in the same price range; some even Wiifi 6 enabled aready. Now I am using old DLink as Router and only uses EC230-G1 as Wifi AP since it has more coverage due to the design.

Thanks for your kind reply. Really appreciate it.

Hi

Just moved to Time - 500 package. First 2 days I was getting 400+ for both 2.4G and 5G. Suddenly I am getting less than 100 for 2.4G. and for 5G I am getting around 400. Anyone knows why th suddenly drop in speed for 2.4?

I cant even get more than 60Mbps on 2.4Ghz unless I am lucky even on a really good router.

TIME are mostly condo only and 2.4Ghz interference on a condo is horrible with so many 2.4Ghz devices in close proximity.

Thanks a lot for the reply. Now I am getting 50 to 60 on 2.4. I assume this is normal. Only that 3 days ago during installation I got 300 on 2.4. what could have changed?..thanks
