QUOTE(jjj2 @ Jul 18 2024, 09:30 AM) Nowadays, it no longer possess competitive advantage over its competitors, many are performing far better. any reco? what is better? i'm perfectly ok with 100-300 mbps. cheapest if possible but reliable. QUOTE(terdit @ Jan 14 2025, 10:07 AM) ![]() Hi All Sifus, i renewed my contract with TIME almost 2 years ago, next contract expiry is on mid of April 2025 (ngam ngam 3 months from today). Would like to ask, when will i able to see the offer for contract renewal? still didnt see such things after login to self care. previous renewal i got 2 unit of Huawei HG8145X6, which currently use 1 of it as my router after my TP-Link AX73 start to become not stable on the internet. the TP-Link AX73 was bought on mid 2021 with 3 years warranty, so after warranty expired it start to have problem on Q3 2024 they memang count till ngam ngam on the lifespan? current Huawei HG8145X6, i found that the performance is not that good, sometimes internet (WiFi) is a bit slow when in the room. never have this problem when using TP-Link AX73 previously. Should i head for the WIFI7 router from TIME? (if they offer me the router for contract renewal) or should i just get another router from other brand? saw this TP-Link BE230 WiFi 7 BE3600 while exploring. add on: i have quite a number of gadget and IOT connecting to the WiFi need advice on the above. thanks again. NO 6GHZ Dualband *full explanation https://dongknows.com/dual-band-vs-tri-band...i-fi-bandwidth/ QUOTE When band splitting is useful There are a few instances where an extra 5GHz or 6GHz band—that’s tri-band (Wi-Fi 5 / Wi-Fi 6) or quad-band (Wi-Fi 6E / Wi-Fi 7)—makes sense. First, you need to have many 5GHz or 6GHz clients to consider using this type of broadcaster. And then, make sure you have at least one of the following to make the investment worthwhile. QUOTE The takeaway Generally, you don’t need any additional Wi-Fi band in a standalone broadcaster or a mesh system with wired backhauling. Sometimes, this extra band helps, but it is still not a must-have. Generally, broadcasters with an intact band for each frequency always suffice. Splitting a band in two, especially in the 5GHz case, also limits the flexibility in channel forming. There’s less chance of getting a channel wide enough to deliver the Wi-Fi standard’s top performance. But, all things considered, having more bands—that use different parts of the wireless spectrum—generally doesn’t hurt. So, in the end, it comes down to cash. If you can afford it, proceed with a router with the most bands. Once in a while, it’s nice to turn things up to eleven. https://www.tp-link.com/my/home-networking/...#specifications also it's capped at 2.5 multigig. for internet it doesn't get more than that. for lan, you're essentially capping yourself to 2.5g tops. though those speeds are good enough for most people. not many of the wifi 7 can hit 5g multigig to begin with. e.g. my tplink eap-773 has 10g ethernet slot, but speed only hit 2g tops my wifi7 uses triband. i suggest getting wifi7 with triband if possible. quad band wifi7 is the premium end https://www.tp-link.com/us/home-networking/...r/archer-be900/ just to add onto that, it also depends on your clients. are your clients at minimum wifi 6e or wifi7 capable to even make full use of that? if not then, the benefits may be limited. Those wifi 7 speeds, only applies to wifi 7 client devices. For desktop, you need wireless 7 or add it via a wifi7 pcie addon card. Msi herald wifi7 card supports AMD pcs (i think they use qualcom? or mediatek? i forget). The intel wifi7 adapter only work on intel pc afaik. https://www.reddit.com/r/Amd/comments/1ay52...g_wifi7_on_amd/ check ur local wifi see what the situation is for starters https://www.reddit.com/r/OculusQuest/commen...ed_would_it_be/ local youtuber tested many wifi 7 router, you should check his channel to see the results on shopee the youtube model is rm1.3k This post has been edited by Moogle Stiltzkin: Jan 17 2025, 02:40 PM |

QUOTE(westlife @ May 1 2025, 01:05 PM) I came from Unifi previously. similar situation here. but i have zero experience with time so your feedback is pretty useful.I am forced to use time bb due to no Unifi at the apartment I stay. My experience can confirm that time bb has no significant benefits over Unifi expect that for lower speed plan e.g. 500Mbps plan and below, it has higher upload speed but to most users this is not something crucial since most do not need that kind of upload speed unless one is content creator. And in terms of speed and latency, time bb to me has no advantage also. In fact during peak hours, I cannot attain full speed of my 600Mbps at all, I believe it is due to shared bandwidth for all users staying in the same apartment. But Unifi I have no issue, I can attain full speed with low latency all the time. And now Unifi has retention plan for users who have no contract which they can get 500Mbps at rm99 price per month which is absolutely better deal than time bb now. So conclusion, time bb really has no advantage over other isps now. i went with unifi since thats what i used before. i just assumed the tmnut unifi would be more stable. no issues for me. but i have no idea if time would be better or not, its not that more expensive, but it has 300 mbps vs unifi 100 mbps. i dont download much so that doesnt matter too much to me, i just want a stable low latency internet at cheapest but this retention plan does not apply to new subscribers or does it? when i subscribe they only offered the standard 100 mbps even blacktubi doesnt seem to like time, so even more of a reason for me to sus anyway for unifi tmnut 100 mbps, dont notice any particular issues, just works. of course i dont use isp dns This post has been edited by Moogle Stiltzkin: May 4 2025, 11:35 AM |

QUOTE(westlife @ May 11 2025, 11:58 PM) certainly not, my equipment can hit 600Mbps no issue for sure. It is the inconsistent speed by time at my apartment. i suggest u download wifiman (assuming u use android) onto smartphone. then check ur wifi signal dbm. just because ur speed is good in one area, doesnt mean its the same in another. so try walk around and see ur results (both signal and the local speed test)then also run openspeedtest self hosted https://github.com/openspeedtest/Speed-Test this can check whether ur wifi has any issues or not. u say inconsistent. i would first suspect wifi signal not good, too much interference? or simply ur wifi thoroughput using that wifi ap is bad but u did not realize. Check that first. Once u rule that out, then ok then check other things or u can skip all that and go straight to wired and see its improved or not. id still want to check wifi is not the issue if i were u since its something i actually use This post has been edited by Moogle Stiltzkin: May 13 2025, 04:20 AM |
