Hi guys I'm moving into new place in a few months, there's only time fibre available there. First time signing up, but planning on getting my own router. Some questions:

1. Should I buy my router first before the technician comes to install? Maybe can ask them to help make it work straight away with my router?
2. Since I have my own router, can I request they charge less for installation? I assume their cost includes the modem and router costs.
3. When I was in the US, there was no need for a modem to access fibre services. Is this possible with time? Basically only router.

Thanks 👍

Thanks for response bro. Might try like you suggest and give stock router a chance first. If turns out I want to use my own router in the end, how hard is it to set it up? I heard people say configure as bridge mode, is that all? Or need to configure PPPoE also?

Hi guys I bought an ASUS TUF-AX3000 in anticipation for moving into my condo next year, and I've already decided to get the 500Mbps plan. Is there anything I need to do to set it up, or can I ask the technician who's coming to install to set it up for me? Thanks in advance.

Can set up. Easy setup.
Just get the time login and password (usually they will write on the installation form too).
Not sure if they are willing to do the setup on your router than the stock router. You can ask.
I use TUF-AX3000 as well, paired with AX3000 for mesh. Its super stable and easy to setup. No worries.

Thanks, if I can DIY then definitely do that better than paying random "custom job" fee to the technicians for sure.

So all I need is the TIME username, password, then plug that into the router config page? Is that called the PPPOE username and password?

Hey guys I just realized my fiber optic will come in from my condo foyer area, so my understanding is the modem will need to be there. However, I also have 2 ethernet ports, one at living room and one at study.

I want to put the router in my study so it's connected to the wall ethernet port.

How should I set it up such that: Modem in foyer ---PPPoE +bridge mode ---> Router in office ---> Wi-Fi and Ethernet ports on the wall?

Or am I basically stuck with Modem in foyer --> Ethernet ports on wall --> Router piggyback as 192.168.2.1 from one of the wall ports?

Much appreciated.

When you say "Will come in..." means Installer will pull in or the fibre is already there by the developer ? Please take a picture, is there a distribution panel or soho box at foyer area ?

The fibre is already there by the developer. There's a distribution panel at foyer area but it's barred (I didn't bring screwdriver when I visited...)

I did notice there's a network switch with multiple LAN ports, but idk how those are connected to the wall ports in my study and living room.

Maybe the easiest is to do

Modem at foyer -- bridge mode --> switch --> wall port in study --> router plug there w/ PPPoE configured?

But if I do this above, my other wall port won't be usable right, since the modem is connected directly to the other wall port? Sorry for so many questions blush.gif

Guys TIME came to my condo unit try to install yesterday but they told me the fiber inlet got problem, no signal when they tried to run some tests before setup. They said my building no longer under TIME warranty and need inform management.

I informed management and they said will ask some contractors to come check. My question is, these sort of troubleshooting and fixes, should the bill be paid by me or management? Since the issue seems to be outside my unit I’d say it’s the building management’s responsibility to provide a usable fiber connection, so I would say they should pay to fix for me but not sure.

Also, what are the chances they’ll come back and say it’s impossible to fix? I think should be fixable since none of my neighbors have complained about fiber issues so the problem likely lies between my unit and the floor’s “switchboard” or something similar?

Same here, morning no problem. Now suddenly many websites become slow/not loading at all.

Same here. In Penang northern area and some servers are really slow and not working. For example I'm trying to login to Wise and it just keeps hanging after the initial login page.
