Hey all, hoping to get a little help if possible. I received the upgrade to 500Mbps a while back but I have not seen any difference in my internet speed at all. Am still using the DIR-850L, if that makes any difference at all? My LAN status is showing a cap of 100Mbps. I've tried updating my drivers to no avail. Thanks in advance.

QUOTE(cherroy @ Oct 17 2018, 05:18 PM) 850L is gigabit router, so it should capable to deliver 500mbps. Possible bottleneck by Lan cable, you need at least Cat5e) or if using switch then you need gigabit switch to deliver speed beyond 100mbps. Sorry, I forgot to mention I'm using a Cat6 cable. Do you mind explaining a little more on the whole gigabit switch thing? Not very familiar with these terms. Thanks

QUOTE(SilentVampire @ Oct 17 2018, 05:24 PM) Thanks. I've requested for the free TP-Link AC1200 from Time. Would that make the difference? Or do I still require a Ethernet switch to hit beyond 100Mbps? Sorry for all the questions.

QUOTE(SilentVampire @ Oct 17 2018, 05:50 PM) That is enough. You can get your own gigabit switch if you want, but it is not necessary. If you speed is still not your optimal speed, get another cable, preferably Cat 6, and test again. I see. Am actually using a Cat6 cable already. I'll just wait to get the new router and test it again then. Thank you so much for all the advice!

QUOTE(Proton2.0 @ Oct 17 2018, 06:06 PM) Dude, can tell us your PC specs? Please check if your Pc/laptop is not running on 100Mbps Ethernet LAN. Because it sounds to me that could be the cause..Your PC/laptop/Android box/whatever needs to be using Gigabit LAN port. I'm using an Asrock B85M-HDS mobo from quite a while back. Could that be the issue? I don't think processor, RAM or GPU would impact my LAN speed right?

QUOTE(Proton2.0 @ Oct 17 2018, 06:12 PM) Hmm, this mobo does have Gigabit LAN. But can you post some photos of your network device and task manager->Performance->Ethernet, just to clarify? https://imgur.com/a/blK1N4IAm I missing something? Thanks in advance.

QUOTE(Proton2.0 @ Oct 17 2018, 06:22 PM) Ok. Confirmed you have Gigabit ethernet and you are using Tplink C1200 right? You use what to test speed? If use speedtest.net, make sure point server to TIME dotcom or TM Berhad. Actually, am still using the old DIR-850L they provided me with when I signed up 2 years back. And I've tried changing the settings on speedtest.net, no difference unfortunately. Also tried using the speedtest on Time's website. Same results. QUOTE(Proton2.0 @ Oct 17 2018, 06:26 PM) Oh ic. But this router is Gigabit port also, so should be able to get 500Mbps. Maybe you do a direct connection to the modem as suggested by some here , but i am not sure how to so that. I see, it's okay man. Really appreciate your input. I'll just wait for the new router and test again. Perhaps that'd make the difference.

QUOTE(wirelessbuyer @ Oct 17 2018, 06:46 PM) From your stated configuration you should already running 1Gbps connection (but will be limited to your 500Mbps speed package) - Router DIR850L (gigabit capable) - Lan Cat 6 (gigabit capable) - Motherboard (gigabit capable) Could you check your network adapter speed whether it is showing 1.0Gbps or 100Mbps? Can refer here, https://goo.gl/Vfq65oQUOTE(FusionXY @ Oct 17 2018, 06:55 PM) Hi, to perform direct connection to ONU. You must get your PPPoE details ready and connect to ONU from Laptop bypass the router and see whether you can get speed. Check your link speed on your laptop as bro wirelessbuyer mentioned. Do let me know if you need further assistances. Downgrade from which plan to which plan? Thanks It is showing 100Mbps. How do I get it to reach 1.0Gbps? Thanks in advance. QUOTE(FusionXY @ Oct 17 2018, 07:15 PM) Hi, using Windows 10? If yes, then go to Settings --> Network & Internet --> Network and Sharing Center --> Change Adapter Settings --> select Ethernet --> Properties --> Configure --> Check Speed and Duplex is in auto mode instead of 100Mbps. Thanks. I've set it to Auto but nothing has changed. The Link Speed (Receive/Transmit) in my network properties is showing 100/100 (Mbps). Does that mean I can't go any higher? Any idea what would be the cause or how I can bypass that? My apologies for all the questions.

QUOTE(wirelessbuyer @ Oct 17 2018, 07:46 PM) Or could you try to change it to 1.0 Gbps Full Duplex? See whether it helps? Another thing you can try is to use other cat 5e or above LAN cable. This happen to me before where fake cat 5e (which is cat 5) limit my network speed to 100Mbps instead of 1.0Gbps I've tried the 1.0Gbps option earlier as well. No luck. I got this new Cat6 cable recently from IdealTech. Are they not a trustworthy seller? I'll have to source for a new cable again then as I only have an old Cat5 cable I was using before. Are there any recommended places/sellers I can seek out for the cable? Am just worried I might get conned haha...

QUOTE(wirelessbuyer @ Oct 17 2018, 07:57 PM) Usually in the router box, they will provide you with a free cat 5e cable or above. You can use that to perform the test. Ah right, it's really really short though haha. Am actually using a desktop and it's all the way in my room. I'll test that out in a bit, though. Thanks a lot man! I'll update again in case it doesn't quite work.

QUOTE(SilentVampire @ Oct 17 2018, 09:18 PM) Did you try checking your router to see if the WAN port is set to 1000Mbps instead of 100Mbps or Auto? Check that under ‘Settings’, then ‘Network’, and ‘Advanced Settings’, ‘WAN port speed’. Still no luck unfortunately. I managed to snag a Cat5e cable from a friend to test against my newly bought Cat6 but same results. Still stuck on 100/100Mbps link speed. I'm not sure if it's possible but could it be due to my mobo's LAN port being faulty?
