Klopp's pre-match press conference vs Cardiff:
Jurgen refused to be moved on reports Liverpool are negotiating a new deal with Joe Gomez but praised the youngster’s progress and believes he has a ‘big future.’
QUOTE
"We don't talk about that (contracts) but he's an important member of the squad. When I came in everyone told me how good he was. He had to fight back from the injury. Now he's really fit and full of confidence." I know what they were talking about. He has a big future.”
Both Naby Keita and Jordan Henderson are out of tomorrow’s clash with Cardiff.
QUOTE
"Will not work out for tomorrow for sure," Klopp said. "They are both in a good way but won't be ready for that.
"That's it, pretty much. The rest should be available."
Klopp praised fringe players Joel Matip, Dominic Solanke, Nathaniel Clyne, Alberto Moreno and Divock Origi for their attitude and training ethic while out of the team.
QUOTE
"Divock is a good example for players who are not too much involved in the last couple of weeks, because he is doing outstanding," he added. "It's just like it is.
"Dom Solanke is in a good moment and nobody can see it because he's not playing so that's a problem - like Clyne, like Moreno, all these guys. You can only play really good football when you train well, and you only train well when the training group is really strong.
"They are really strong, that's how it is.
"I forgot Joel Matip! He would play in 97% of each Premier League and Bundesliga club, I'm 100% sure. He wasn't even in the squad last game and he's in outstanding shape.
"It makes life comfortable but difficult, we need these players 100%, it was clear that Divock deserved to be involved. The game wasn't like we had to use him but if they continue how they've trained, they will have their moments."
The manager says he is aware of the praise Fabinho’s midweek performance garnered but believes the Brazilian can still improve.
QUOTE
"It looked good. It was a game where it made sense to do it. I heard people were quite excited about the performance of Fabinho - but he's a young fella and can still improve."
And it was revealed the entire Liverpool squad voted for Virgil van Dijk to be the team’s vice-vice captain while Gini Wijnaldum is fourth choice skipper.
QUOTE
"I decided that Hendo and Millie would stay (as captain and CV). The players voted for the next two - Virgil and then Gini."
On the improvement of set pieces
QUOTE
“we put more focus on it.”
“A lot, a lot. We did a lot on set-pieces,” he told reporters when asked if the workload has increased.
“Actually, it’s quite difficult to talk about set-pieces because you don’t want to talk about it!
“[For] the routines, there are different runs and different things.
“We did it in pre-season—and it was clear at the start of pre-season that we want to focus on it because it was not a proper strength of ours.
“That’s what we do week in and week out. It doesn’t work out all the time, but I would say it is a different approach that we choose.
“We have different runs, never the same routine, so it’s always something different. We put more focus on it.”
On Warnock & Cardiff
QUOTE
“I’m really looking forward to meeting him, maybe not in the 90 minutes.
“I heard a lot about him. He’s obviously, vocal-wise, very talented! He’s one of the most experienced managers in the world, and what he did in the past is unbelievable.”
“Cardiff deserve all our respect and they will get it.”
QUOTE
“He looks like a character, a very emotional and lively person.
“I saw the final period of the Championship last year and it was impressive how they did it. They deserved it.
“He looks like a very demanding manager, and always has my respect.”
QUOTE
"They have unbelievably long throw-ins. So difficult. It makes this game so interesting. On top of that they can play football - both wingers quick and direct."
On Front Three
QUOTE
"It makes more sense if the responsibility for scoring is on different shoulders. I was surprised how long they (Firmino and Mane) didn't score!"
QUOTE
“It’s not a bad thing to rely on one person if he’s always at 100%, but it’s good to put the responsibility for scoring on different shoulders.
“They all showed up [against Belgrade.]”
